Is your mail put through your door or in a mailbox? If the latter do you have a friend that could pop by and pick it up? You can use Informed Delivery so you know when it's on its way and delivered (it shows up as a special delivery parcel). I just wouldn't risk leaving it sat in a mailbox for weeks/months.

I have to say I found the process pretty clear from the NVC website, their step by step instructions for the whole process were really good I thought. Your SSN should be received within 2 weeks (assuming you ticked that box on the I-130), your green card will take longer and can be up to 90 days but you can track that using the receipt number from when you paid the green card fee, so you can see when it's in production and when it's been despatched (plus get the tracking details). I'd also recommend you sign up to Informed Delivery if you haven't already, so you can see when both are on their way. Good luck.

Your BIL needs to keep an eye on the Visa Bulletin (released monthly) to see if it changes or when it moves forward. It has only moved forward by a month since you asked in May, so he needs to be aware it could take a lot longer.

Yep, as a junior software engineer there’s nothing you can do on your own, your company needs to petition for you. It’ll take several years if they agree to it, possibly as much as ~15 years depending on the country you are from. So you need to speak to your boss or HR and see if they are prepared to sponsor you. Yes, exactly that. You’ve got several years to go until a visa will become available to you, but will be able to get the NVC stage underway earlier as per Table B.

You can’t track your SSN. Just checking, but you did definitely tick the box asking for it to be sent to you on the DS-260? You can track your GC on the usual USCIS case status website, but just use the receipt number from when you paid the GC fee instead of your case number. You need to allow 90 days from when you arrived though so still to early to worry about that really - but your SSN should be here by now.

Yes, they look at them, to check that the copy you uploaded to NVC was genuine. That's why the original of certain docs is required at the interview stage. This of course is assuming you're also applying for a CR1/IR1 - your other post is on a thread about DCF, so not sure what route you're going down?

It will delay the process, you can have your interview but if you don't have all the required docs you'll be asked to send it in afterwards and your decision will be held until after it's received.

Are you sure you haven't paid already? Did you pay a fee at your interview? If not you should have been given a letter about paying it online. You can also pay when you arrive in the US.

Of course you can. You'll be a green card holder on arrival, so can work in pretty much any job you like (unless it requires citizenship). Your visa will be endorsed on arrival and that acts as your green card for a year, so you can just use that until your plastic one comes in the mail. If you ticked the box on your I-130/I-140 to say you want the SSN sent automatically after you arrive then it should do. But as above, that doesn't always happen. Out of our family of 4, 3 arrived within 10 days, the other never turned up. It was my 18 year old daughters, and so we had to go a SSN office to get it sorted in person - it turned out that there is somebody else with exactly the same name and date of birth as her already in the US, so they assumed it was an error and cancelled the application. 😂

You haven't got your green card yet then, you've got your immigrant visa. You won't get your green card until after you've entered the US on that visa (usually about 1-3 months after you arrive). You can update the address when you arrive.

You should have had an email telling you you're DQ'ed and are in line for an interview, are you sure you haven't had that, maybe check your spam/junk folder? What does your online status say, does it say it's in transit? Compared to other consulates Auckland is still pretty quick even at a few months wait, a lot still have 2 year + waits for an interview due to their backlogs. Good luck.

Family based applications (which I assume yours is from where you’ve posted) usually upload them, only employment based have to mail them. But the RFE should tell you how they want you to send the evidence.

If you scroll up you'll find tons of info in this thread, but you can also click on members Timelines (if they've completed it) to give you an idea. From the most recent couple of people who've posted it looks like you won't hear before Xmas but should early next year - seems to be around 3-4 months from DQ to IL and then another month or two until the interview. But the timelines will give you more info, you can also use the search function on the forum to find others timelines as well, good luck.

Is your sister unmarried? If so, you can both apply for her and both should do. It'll be quicker for your mother (still many, many years though) but you can be back up just in case.

Oh, and I would suggest you edit your post with his Linked In details in - you may have taken his name out, but it brings his profile straight up! Does he have his profile set as open to work with the US as the location? And looks like his most recent publication was a decade ago? So that's no good. He'll need much more recent publications if he wants to use those as evidence.

Definitely not DIY! Much tougher than a spouse visa which is very much a tick box exercise. Unlike a spouse visa where if you meet the criteria you should be approved, an employment based visa without a job offer will be very subjective and dependent on the visa officer. He'll need to have a really good case compiled - mine was over 400 pages long (FWIW, it included proof of almost daily contact from recruiters or companies on my LinkedIn profile asking about hiring me in the US, to show the demand for my area of specialism there). So definitely contact a couple of lawyers with lots of experience of EB IV's, and they should be able to tell him his chances. Good luck to him.
