I read online to wait 2 weeks after landing to apply for an SSN due to the system needing to update with the documents I had on me at POE (K1 visa.) I got married 5 days after I landed, and applied for my SSN after the 2 weeks with absolutely no issue. I made sure to take all of the correct information including my marriage certificate as I changed my last name to match my husband's so it was different than my passport and the process was seamless for me getting an SSN, I got mine in the post about a week later. I then was able to open a bank account easily. I was told by the person at the SSN office once I've got my green card to go back and change my SSN card from one where I can't work, to one that can. Not sure if it's different for each office but I had no issue at all!

Not for me, I did research and Reddit said that a lot of the time one ways are more expensive than round trips, I guess we’ve just had different experiences! At the time the only airlines flying into Austin were British Airways and AA as they are partnered and there was no other option for me. It worked out though!

JULY 2024 AOS FILERS
j26 replied to The journey's topic in Adjustment of Status Case Filing and Progress Reports
Filed on 8th July, had my biometrics on 6th August, just waiting now! Anyone else log into their USCIS account every day to check even though they get notifs when something has updated? 😆 -
Thank you! I won't have any income/job/home in the UK and my job/home will only be in the USA. I do not think I am classed as a tax resident of the UK due to the fact I have spent less than 91 days in the UK in this tax year (left the UK at the beginning of June, worked from April til May)....I have contacted HMRC previously to let them know I have moved abroad and they have refunded me the tax I paid. Which I think means once I start a job at the end of this year I should be okay? I'll only be visiting maybe once or twice a year for a vacation and not for work.

Ah, I think I have answered my own question (although if anyone is reading this and knows otherwise please tell me!) I have spent less than 91 days in the UK (I have spent 61 total during the 24/25 tax year) so working for more than 30 days during this tax year does not count due to this and therefore I am classed as a non-resident?

Thank you! I think I read this wrong initially as I thought I would still be classed as a UK resident due to how long I've spent in the UK this year, not sure if I am making this more confusing than it is lol! I took the test they gave you and it says due to how long I've spent and worked in the UK this tax year from April til June I'm still classed as a resident? Unless I took it wrong? Very confused!

Hello! I was wondering if anyone from the UK could help me as I am struggling a little to understand the UK Gov website/find anything to help. I moved to the USA in June of this year on a K1 visa, and am now married to my husband. I am currently awaiting my AOS/Green Card and was wondering, once I get a job and start to earn an income, do I need to continue to pay UK tax on my foreign income even if I am not moving back to the UK/moving any money to the UK? Has anyone had any experience with this and is able to let me know? Thank you so much!

Hello all! I have a question regarding my birth certificate. My birth certificate has only ever listed my mother's name from birth as my father did not have anything to do with me (or now) as a child, my mother brought me up as a single mother. Will this be an issue at all? I know who he is, but have no contact and he has not been a father to me. Will this cause an issue? I was wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation?

Chicken pox question - Medical
j26 replied to j26's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures
Hi all, Thanks for your replies! Just an update, had my medical yesterday and the nurse asked me if I'd had chicken pox, I said yes but I'd never been to the doctors about it and she said she'd take my word for it, as most people in the UK had chicken pox as a kid and never went to the docs! So all good -

Chicken pox question - Medical
j26 replied to j26's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures
Thank you so much for this! Was the blood test at an additional cost or included in the price? I was worried I had to scramble to get a blood test from my doctors prior to my app! -
Hello! I am based in the UK and on the email for the Medical appointment it says that if you have proof of chicken pox as a child to bring this in. I did have chicken pox as a child but this was never reported to the doctors by my parents as it wasn’t serious. Do they provide a blood test on the day/this doesn’t matter? I’m slightly worried I’ll need to get a blood test from my doctor’s beforehand to show immunity? Could someone let me know their experience with the medical and chicken pox? Thank you

Hello, Apologies if this is not in the right section. I have booked my visa appointment for March today in London, and my appointment is in the morning so I am staying over night at a hotel. I was wondering if anyone has any experience of what they can bring to the appointment - am I allowed to bring a backpack with my clothes/makeup/toiletries in or is this forbidden? The website states that i cannot bring anything over the size of cabin luggage but I just want to make sure as I don't want to be turned away. My appointment is at 11am and usually check outs for hotels etc is at midday so I would be bringing my bag with me. Thank you so much!
