  1. I read online to wait 2 weeks after landing to apply for an SSN due to the system needing to update with the documents I had on me at POE (K1 visa.) I got married 5 days after I landed, and applied for my SSN after the 2 weeks with absolutely no issue. I made sure to take all of the correct information including my marriage certificate as I changed my last name to match my husband's so it was different than my passport and the process was seamless for me getting an SSN, I got mine in the post about a week later. I then was able to open a bank account easily. I was told by the person at the SSN office once I've got my green card to go back and change my SSN card from one where I can't work, to one that can. Not sure if it's different for each office but I had no issue at all!
  2. Not for me, I did research and Reddit said that a lot of the time one ways are more expensive than round trips, I guess we’ve just had different experiences! At the time the only airlines flying into Austin were British Airways and AA as they are partnered and there was no other option for me. It worked out though!
  3. This was with British Airways and internationally I think a lot of the time it's the norm if I am not mistaken. It definitely was when I was doing my research at the time.
  4. I got my income tax as a refund back to me from April of this year to the end of May which is when I finished work!
  5. Hey! I flew with British Airways and I cancelled the return leg a couple of days after I landed. I didn’t have to pay any fees, however I didn’t get any refund at all (which I knew would happen) I also kept my cancellation confirmation email just in case!
  6. Filed on 8th July, had my biometrics on 6th August, just waiting now! Anyone else log into their USCIS account every day to check even though they get notifs when something has updated? 😆
  7. Thank you! I won't have any income/job/home in the UK and my job/home will only be in the USA. I do not think I am classed as a tax resident of the UK due to the fact I have spent less than 91 days in the UK in this tax year (left the UK at the beginning of June, worked from April til May)....I have contacted HMRC previously to let them know I have moved abroad and they have refunded me the tax I paid. Which I think means once I start a job at the end of this year I should be okay? I'll only be visiting maybe once or twice a year for a vacation and not for work.
  8. Ah, I think I have answered my own question (although if anyone is reading this and knows otherwise please tell me!) I have spent less than 91 days in the UK (I have spent 61 total during the 24/25 tax year) so working for more than 30 days during this tax year does not count due to this and therefore I am classed as a non-resident?
  9. Thank you! I think I read this wrong initially as I thought I would still be classed as a UK resident due to how long I've spent in the UK this year, not sure if I am making this more confusing than it is lol! I took the test they gave you and it says due to how long I've spent and worked in the UK this tax year from April til June I'm still classed as a resident? Unless I took it wrong? Very confused!
  10. Hello! I was wondering if anyone from the UK could help me as I am struggling a little to understand the UK Gov website/find anything to help. I moved to the USA in June of this year on a K1 visa, and am now married to my husband. I am currently awaiting my AOS/Green Card and was wondering, once I get a job and start to earn an income, do I need to continue to pay UK tax on my foreign income even if I am not moving back to the UK/moving any money to the UK? Has anyone had any experience with this and is able to let me know? Thank you so much!
  11. Sorry all I have another question! When I fill out my details on my booking it’s asking if i have a US visa and if so, to put in the number. This won’t be an issue if I’ve booked a return would it? As it’s a K1 visa and I’ll be cancelled the return flight. Or does it not matter at all?
  12. San Antonio, so “on” I-10 as it splits SA in the middle! technically we’ll be south of it though? Not sure what that makes me 🤣
  13. Thanks everyone! Booked my flights (non-refundable, return, a flexible ticket would have cost me around 3.3k compared to the £700 non-refundable so I went with non-refundable just in case I needed that extra money before I went). Happy to lose out on a bit of money, very excited to go!
  14. Thank you so much for the heads up. What I'll do is make a note in my phone to cancel the return leg a couple of days after I land, and to make sure I keep the cancellation confirmation along with my other visa documents to ensure I have valid proof of this too should this occur during my AOS.
