  1. Her name as it appears on her marriage license/certificate is in the same exact order as it appears on her vietnamese passport, which is the wrong order. People mentioned that the order can be corrected when applying for her greencard on the I-485 form. But exactly how do I correct the order? Could someone who has the same problem and was able to fix this, please share exactly how it's done?
  2. On her passport, under her name, it is written without specification whether its last, first, middle.
  3. Part 1, section 1 - I have checked 1a, since my wife came to america on a K1 visa. Is this the correct choice? Part 2, section 2a - Who do I put for the "In Care Of Name", and do I use my current's resident address in this section?
  4. Part 7, section 5a - My mom will be acting as the joint sponsor, so she will be filling out the I-864A, not sure what to put down in 5b. Part 7, section 6,7,8 - I'm assuming the "principal sponsored immigrant" is my wife? and if so, does this section need to be filled out. I know it says optional, but I just want to be sure I'm doing everything correctly.
  5. Hello everyone. I have just sponsored my fiance to come to America. We have gone to court to get our marriage license, and also went to the social security office to apply for a SSN for her. My next step is to apply for a greencard for her. As her husband, I will be the one sponsoring her but do not meet the 125% poverty income requirements, so I will use my mom as the joint sponsor. Do I fill out the I-864 and my mom fills out the I-864A? I currently live at home with my mom, grandmother and my mom's younger brother, and my wife. I am not sure what number I should use for household size on my I-864 application? And on Part 6 section 8, should I put my mother's name along with her current income from her latest tax return transcript? Part 6, section 21 and 22 - I'm unsure of what to check or do here. I've attached and circle below the areas that I have questions about.
  6. I am currently in the process of preparing to help my wife out fill out her AOS/Greencard (I-485) application along with the Work EAD Permit and Travel Docs applications and have a few concerns and questions. What kind of questions do they usually ask? Do both you and your spouse go in together for the interview? How long is the interview process and do they have translators available if needed, my wife's english isn't good? Do they require you to prove that your marriage is real by asking to see a bank account with both your names on it, monthly statements or bills with our names on it, etc? I have a joint-sponsor to help me with the I-864 application, if that person is retired can they still be my joint-sponsor since I do not meet the 125% poverty income rate? My household size is 3 or 4. How long does the entire process take in order for my wife to receive her greencard? Thanks in advance!
  7. My wife is applying for her greencard (I-485), Travel Docs (I-131) and Work Permit EAD all at once. But she is stuck on Part 2 Application Type (I-131). She chose 1d so that if there's an emergency back in Vietnam such as a family health crisis or similar, she can travel to Vietnam, take care of what she needs to and be able to return back to the US without any problems. Has she chosen the correct choice? There's also a reentry permit as well. I just want to make sure before submitting the application. Also, regarding Part 3, does this need to be filled out now? She doesn't have a timeframe in mind on when she needs to travel since this all depends on if there's a family emergency, then she will know the date and time for travel, but as of now, there's no need. So can she leave part 3 blank and skip it?
  8. To confirm, all they asked was for her passport/visa. They asked for her I-94, but she didn't have it with her. So I guess it's really isn't necessary. Appplied and they told me that the name order has to be exactly the same as it's written/shown on her passport/visa. I asked if it was possible to change the order and they told me no and I would have to speak with immigration regarding that. Besides that, the process was pretty simple just extremely long wait times like almost 5 hours in total. They will mail the card within 2 weeks or 7-10 days.
  9. I tried to apply online for ESL classes at HCC but it asks for SSN and my fiance doesn't have one. Is this mandatory?
  10. My fiance just arrived and I would like to know if anyone here knows of a place where she can learn english in the Houston area. Would prefer someone or some place that has experienced teachers who are bilingual in both english and vietnamese because my fiance doesn't know much english, just the very basics.
  11. My fiance has made it to the US and I was wondering if form I-864 is still required? I only see people doing the typical AOS and related forms which are the I-485, I-131, I-785.
  12. Yep, I am getting so many different answers to this problem that I am totally confused on what I should do. Some people to say don't worry about it and that I can always change it later when applying for GC (I-485) or if she decides to get naturalized on the N-400. I want to know what the best, quickest and most easiest way to go about getting her name correct to avoid future complications. I am in the process making an appointment at the SSA to apply for her SSN and hope that process will go smoothly. What things must I bring with me to apply for a SSN for her? I'm assuming they don't need to see the marriage license/certificate?
  13. Does it really make a difference whether you apply before or after signing up for an SSN? I mean what exactly will be different whether we apply before or after getting married?
  14. Do we need to get married (marriage certificate/license) first before applying for an SSN? Because I went to the county clerk's office to get a marriage certificate with my vietnamese fiance and they put the order of her name according to how it was written in her vietnamese passport and visa, and they told me that they couldn't do anything to change the order to the american format. So I'm just worried that going to the SSA office and applying for an ssn, they will give me problems due to the difference in name order that's on our marriage certificate. Did you apply for your fiance's SSN or get married first?
  15. She didn't change anything. This is how it was issued to her in Vietnam. That's the order they go by which is different from the US passport. On a Vietnamese passport the name is in this order <LAST> <MIDDLE1> <MIDDLE2> <FIRST>. So that's how it was printed on our marriage certificate. The county clerk office told me that they had to copy exactly as it was printed in her passport.
  16. What is the necessary steps to take to apply for a social security card (get an SSN). Does this step get done after getting married but before applying for AOS (Greencard I-485)? Also does it cost anything?
  17. Any updates to this issue? I also face the same problem today when getting our marriage license. My fiance's name is in the wrong order and we're not sure what to do. Could someone confirm what @frontgear posted as a working fix for the name issue? I am also located in Fort Bend county in Houston, TX.
  18. Hello, I reside in Houston, TX. Fort bend county, and today my fiance and I went to our local county clerk to get our marriage certificate. I handed them my US passport along with my Fiance's Vietnam Passport, and they told me that they have to match the order of her name that is on her passport. So on our marriage certificate it shows her name in the following order (Middle Name, First Name, Last Name). Which is wrong. My name is shown in the correct order. They told me it has to be this way and that it can't be changed. I'm worried that we may have complications when we apply for ssn, greencard, us citizenship, buy a house, opening a joint bank account, etc that her name being in the wrong order will give us problems. Could someone please help me with this. I'm not sure if this is a normal thing and it can be somehow changed later and not to worry about it. Or is it something we must look into and get it resolved ASAP to avoid future complications? Any help is greatly appreciated.
