  1. Well it doesn't matter in the end. I checked this morning and her I-485 has been approved.
  2. The Emma chat tool just leads me in an endless loop of just telling me to use the Case Status Check page which doesn't tell me anything new. So I guess we're waiting till Monday.
  3. I got an email yesterday from USCIS saying they have taken an action on our case and to login to check it, but when I login nothing's changed. Anyone else get this? Will it just take a bit to update since it's the weekend?
  4. We might go do that. She's applying for jobs and she's worried that her last name being different on her SSN card will cause issues.
  5. How long did it take for them to issue you the new one? It's been over two weeks since our combo card arrived and still no new SSN card. My wife wants to get a learners permit so she can start learning to drive but she thinks they won't accept her current SSN (because no one has ever seen a newly married woman before right? )
  6. Wanting the U.S government to make sense is asking too much.
  7. Dang, and we still haven't even gotten anything since mid-March when we completed the biometrics. Wish they'd send us the interview appointment already. Congrats to you though!
  8. When we filled out the I-485, plus the EAD paperwork, we selected "no" to the "Has the Social Security Administration (SSA) ever officially issued a Social Security card to you?" question. We figured since it had not arrived in the mail yet, this was the truthful answer. Will that cause any problems or do you still think that the fact her name, passport #, and I-94 number will match up it won't be a problem?
  9. So, back when my wife first landed here, everyone online told us to get her an SSN ASAP. We got one approved at our local office, and then sent off our I-485 before her SSN arrived in the mail. However on the I-485, we checked the box requesting an SSN. We read somewhere here that we needed to do that so that they would update her last name now that she is married, and to remove the "Valid for work only with DHS authorization" part of her card. But now my wife is worried that she will have two different SSNs which will cause all sorts of problems. I personally think that since the I-485 has the same passport number and I-94 number that we provided when we applied for the SSN at the local office, shouldn't they see that there is an existing number with that information and not cause issues? I know someone who had a SSN mix up when he was younger and it still causes him problems to this day, and I don't want the same for my wife.
  10. My wife and I just had something occur to us. Everyone told us to get her an SSN ASAP when she arrived in the U.S. We got one approved at our local office, and then sent off our I-485 before her SSN arrived in the mail. However on the I-485, we checked the box requesting an SSN. We read somewhere that we needed to do that so that they would update her last name now that she is married, and to remove the "Valid for work only with DHS authorization" part of her card. But now my wife is worried that she will have two different SSNs which will cause all sorts of problems. 11. Thank you! Now to just wait for something related to scheduling the interview. I wonder when they're gonna get that sorted out. I don't like how quiet it's been.
  12. We got approved today and the approval notice says "We will send your Employment Authorization Document (also known as an EAD card or Form I-766) to you separately. The EAD card will have an I-512 endorsement on it, which indicates that you have been approved for advance parole" Is this what everyone is calling the "combo card"? Also the I-765 still says 5 weeks until case decision even though they said they've made a decision. I'm sure that's just an error on their end that will go away eventually?
  13. Still nothing new on our end. Filed: Feb 16th Delivered: Feb 20th NOA: March 4th. Biometrics: March 18th No updates since EAD and AP just say "taking longer than expected." AOS still says 4 months to go.
  14. I'll just jump on the bandwagon and say yup, nothing new since attending the biometric appointment. Just waiting for letters I guess.
  15. Biometrics went well yesterday. In and out in less than 15 minutes. Friendliest and most efficient government office I have ever been in . I guess now we just wait for some sort of letter in the mail? Also, when I check my case status on the USCIS site, it shows the biometrics step as "complete" for the I-485 and the EAD, but not the AP. Does it just take time to update in the system?
  16. Thank you both, she was so worried that this was going to delay our paperwork or something since the I-485 and the biometrics are now "inconsistent" so to speak. But yeah, dark brown and black are close enough to each other that they're basically interchangeable anyway.
  17. For the biometrics form, my wife checked her hair as being black, but when I filled out the I-485 I checked brown because in certain light it looks more dark brown than black. I figure this is probably not going to be a big deal, but she's worried about it now. Yes, before anyone says it, we probably should have coordinated better when filling both out. There was just a misunderstanding between us. Is it possible to simply cross out that selection on the biometrics form and check the correct color? Or just leave it as is? Is it possible to get another biometrics form? Should she just mention it at her biometrics appointment on Monday? I highly doubt your entire legal status in the U.S depends on your hair color, especially when it's subjective as hers, but I guess we just want some reassurance.
  18. We received our official notices in the mail today. Biometrics appointment set for 3.18.
  19. Mailed: Feb 16th to Phoenix lockbox (since we live in Tennessee). Delivered: Feb 20th. Checked status of each receipt number today on USCIS website: I-485 says biometrics appointment was scheduled on Feb 28th and to look for notice in the mail (not arrived). I-765 says case was received on Fed 21st and to look for receipt notice or acceptance notice (not arrived) I-131 says the same thing as I-765.
  20. Mailed: Feb 16th to Phoenix lockbox (since we live in Tennessee). Delivered: Feb 20th. The money orders we included have not been cashed yet and we have not received any sort of notification via the G-1145 we included. Is there a general sort of timeline when we can expect to hear back? I've been googling and can't seem to find a straight answer. I also saw someone say something about the bar codes on the bottom of the paperwork needing to show in order to not get a rejection. My printer cut ours off, so we're a bit anxious about that. I seem to recall the same thing happening to the I-129f and it was never an issue.
  21. When I sent my I-129f, my printer cut off the barcodes on the bottom and it was never an issue. It did the same for the AOS we went last week. I hope it doesn't cause any issue.
  22. Well, we went again today and somehow got the exact same guy. Only this time we didn't mention being married and suddenly he was able to process a SSN for her just fine. Amazing lol.
  23. Well, if we have to wait to change her name until she's a U.S citizen, it's no big deal. Waited long enough for everything else, what's one more thing right? We'll try to go again tomorrow. Hopefully we get a different person who knows what they're doing. Also going to bring in a memo from their own website that says K1 holders (and I-94 holders) are eligible for a SSN, and if they still want to argue I guess I'll be demanding to speak to a manager or something. I have rights dang it, and they should follow the law they are paid to enforce.
