Applying for a UK visa won't affect your US status - as long as you are still living in the US and have been for long enough (5 years, if divorced) you can still naturalize. Once you do that, your US citizenship is permanent whatever happens. Just beware, the UK is much quicker at processing visas - you don't want to be granted a spousal visa then have it expire before you're ready to leave the US!

I did mine online last August and got a confirmation email, everything from USCIS has been sent to the new address, including my I751 approval and my N400 interview date.
