  1. I am a US Citizen living in Canada as PR, with my Canadian citizen husband, and we have applied for his green card. I will be moving back to the US in a couple of months and he will stay in Canada until he is hopefully approved. Can I start moving my household items back before actually moving back, will I have issues at border? My husband will probably travel with me and we will use a trailer, it will just be easier for me as I can take a load back now and not pay for everything to be moved for me. I would like to move everything now but I am guessing moving his stuff with mine would be a hard no TIA!
  2. Oh okay, thanks! How about for me, the U.S. citizen? I am living in Canada and will move back before my Canadian spouse will have a visa. Will I have to pay any duties or run into issues at the border bringing our household items into the US? We are selling our house here in Canada in the fall and I will move back then, I want to start bringing our stuff now, a trailer at a time. My husband will remain in Canada in an Airbnb while waiting for his I130 to be approved fully, hopefully by next summer.
  3. Another question on this.... I am for sure moving back to the US in the fall, can I start taking some of our belongings over little by little to the US over the summer? Was thinking of a trailer full twice of some of our household items. I will need this stuff for settling back into the US and would be cheaper than shipping all at once.
  4. Thanks! We will for sure sell before we get to the interview stage.
  5. Okay, that’s what we were thinking thanks so much!
  6. Ok great, thanks so much. Yes, aware no guarantee on the visa.
  7. I am a US citizen/Canada PR, husband is Canada citizen and last month we submitted the 1-30 online. I have lived in Canada for almost 10 years and we will stay in Canada together until he has a via in hand. We are aware this can take up to 2 years, but I am curious is it best for us to sell our house in Canada before he receives his visa? I keep reading about a 25% tax and of course would rather not pay that. Our current mortgage renews next fall, so we were thinking of selling the house at that time and renting for our remaining time here. We will use the proceeds of our house sale here to fund the move, purchase a house in the US. TIA!
  8. Nice! I hope the interview goes well, and you are able to move soon! We just finally started to do the paperwork this weekend. Still no clue what we will do, if I will move back first or we wait and move together. In the meantime we will keep visiting the states together, we usually go over and shop in MI every week. Thanks!
  9. Hi! I wanted to check and see how you are doing in the process and if you had any issues with visiting your spouse in the US? Thx! We still have not applied as I really do not want us to be apart but know that if I move back first it seems a bit easier (no domicile/sponsor stuff).
  10. I really do appreciate the assistance! I know I am totally overthinking it, lol. I guess part of it is, the fact the Canadian PR paperwork was so much more intense, I keep thinking I am missing stuff on this I-130.
  11. Thank you very much, I appreciate all the help.
  12. I am filing online the I-130, I am the petitioner (US Citizen/Canadian PR) my husband is the beneficiary (Canadian Citizen). We both live together in Canada, and have since 2014. I have a few questions. In the beneficiary section it asks; Where in the United States does the beneficiary intend to live? What if we do not have an address in the US and do not know they exact address of where we will live once he is approved? Where did you and your spouse last live together? When did you and your spouse live there together? It asks for the start date and end date, but we still live together and I cannot enter "present" in the end date. What do we enter? Was the beneficiary EVER in the United States? We travel to the states at least once per week (live in border town) I answered yes to this but he does not have any travel document/visa so I am assuming I leave these blank ie: class or admission or I94 document number. In the other information section it asks; At which USCIS office will the beneficiary apply for adjustment of status to lawful permanent resident? AND At which U.S. Embassy or Consulate location will the beneficiary apply for an immigrant visa? Since we are not in the US now but plan on moving to MN once he is approved what do we put? Thanks so much for any help, I think because we are outside of the US the questions are throwing me off a bit. I am probably overthinking it all.
  13. Yes, been looking at the instructions and checklist for the 1-130 and A. Application seems much easier than the Canadian PR application and we completed that by ourselves without issues. I do also have a consultation with an immigration lawyer booked to see if I am missing any other way to have him immigrate. I appreciate the help, thanks! Hoping to get this all started in the new year so maybe I can move back to the states, with my husband, by the summer of 2024.
  14. I guess I have lots more research to do! I will start with filling out the I-130. I appreciate the help so much.
  15. Hello I am new here so I am not sure if I am posting in the correct spot. I apologize in advance! I am a US Citizen, married to a Canadian Citizen. We live in Canada and I am a PR in Canada. We want to move to the US, and unsure where to start. Seems like I need to apply for I-130, but confused on the domicile part. Would it be better if I move back to the US first to have domicile? If I move back to the US, can my husband visit for 6 months at a time. I know he will not be able to work, but we would rather be together. I am guessing from start to finish to get the GC is a long time, took us 10 months for me to receive PR in Canada so we have sort of done this process before. Any help I would appreciate. TIA!
