    Car import tariff

Funny enough I had the compliance letter and all the correct forms filed out when I went to the POE. He stated they just cannot do it anymore because of the tariffs, they cannot hold the amount of money needed in the facility. I really wanted to keep my car but it is looking as though it will be cheaper and easier to drive it back to Canada and sell it.

    Car import tariff

Yes that is what I thought also but when I went to the POE for CBP inside the US (not at a border) they stated they cannot do it at their locations anymore because of the new tariff, they cannot hold the large amounts of money needed for the new 25%. I talked to an importer and they confirmed that for cars in the US already. I should have imported my car when I crossed back over but I was in a rush and thought I would do it later. I was hoping someone that has done it very recently at the border would have some info if the tariff was charged. Our cars will all purchased in Canada but we would like to import them to keep using them but do not really want to pay the extra 25%, it just does not make it worth it.

    Car import tariff

Has anyone recently imported your vehicle at the border after CR1/IR1 approval? I am a U.S. citizen but lived in Canada for 11 years and moved back to U.S. recently. A few weeks ago I went to a port of entry in the states to import my Canadian car. They stated I had to use an importer now and will need to pay an extra 25% tariff. So I guess I’ll drive my car back to Canada and sell it. I’m curious though when my Canadian husband gets his green card approval soon will he need to pay the tariff on his vehicle also? Or will it be duty/tariff free doing it at time of your first border crossing?
  4. Yesterday I uploaded all the applicant required docs and my AOS documents but did not submit yet. After all these were uploaded I added a joint sponsor, Added their name and I864. Received a pop up saying it could take an hour to add them. it’s been 28 hours now and still says N/A under fee and support docs. Should it take this long? also since I added the joint sponsor I cannot see my AOS docs at all. If I click on my line it says not submitted and shows the applicants docs not mine? Mine are just gone and I can’t even reload any. Any suggestions?
  5. Thank you so much for this, I really appreciate it!
  6. Thanks! I will give it a try and hope we do not need a sponsor. Seems crazy to have to ask a family member to sponsor you when you have more than enough in salary and assets. I appreciate it!
  7. Hi, our I130 was just approved and we are waiting on the NVC email but I have a question about getting ready to complete the I864. I am a USC and lived in Canada past 11 years, moved back to US a few months ago, my husband is still in Canada. I have been filing my US taxes while living in Canada, but now that I am back in the US can I use my employment letter as proof of income? I did not have any US income in past 11 years but now have US income starting December 2024. I am hoping to not have to get a sponsor. My husband and I also have savings/GIC's in Canada with around 500k in them, can I use this as assets on the form? TIA!
  8. PD December 4, 2023 Approval March 21, 2025!! USC, TXSC December 2023 approvals are happening!
  9. We had no issues crossing. I had a spreadsheet of what was in each box and the agent didn’t even care to look at it. Also had my dog and agent didn’t even ask for that paperwork. I drove my car over and my husband drove his truck pulling the Uhaul trailer. We went in same lane and I went first. I told agent my husband was behind me with my stuff. No issues or cares but the agent. Once my husband gets his green card we will probably have a mover take our stuff as he has all the large furniture and his stuff. I stressed for weeks before hand and it was really easy.
  10. I am a US Citizen living in Canada as PR, with my Canadian citizen husband, and we have applied for his green card. I will be moving back to the US in a couple of months and he will stay in Canada until he is hopefully approved. Can I start moving my household items back before actually moving back, will I have issues at border? My husband will probably travel with me and we will use a trailer, it will just be easier for me as I can take a load back now and not pay for everything to be moved for me. I would like to move everything now but I am guessing moving his stuff with mine would be a hard no TIA!
  11. Oh okay, thanks! How about for me, the U.S. citizen? I am living in Canada and will move back before my Canadian spouse will have a visa. Will I have to pay any duties or run into issues at the border bringing our household items into the US? We are selling our house here in Canada in the fall and I will move back then, I want to start bringing our stuff now, a trailer at a time. My husband will remain in Canada in an Airbnb while waiting for his I130 to be approved fully, hopefully by next summer.
  12. Another question on this.... I am for sure moving back to the US in the fall, can I start taking some of our belongings over little by little to the US over the summer? Was thinking of a trailer full twice of some of our household items. I will need this stuff for settling back into the US and would be cheaper than shipping all at once.
  13. Thanks! We will for sure sell before we get to the interview stage.
  14. Okay, that’s what we were thinking thanks so much!
