  1. Amending this as it looks like if we file MFJ - we need to elect 6013g which we can use Foreign Tax credit 1116 to offset her income.
  2. My understanding is to attach the w7 itin app with the return. So our Fed return should include 1040 w7 2555 No Foreign asset FBAR Form needed as foreign assets are under 10,000
  3. MFJ results in a signifcantly larger return. We will be paper filing once finished to include the w7.
  4. We are filing MFJ and are trying to make sure we have everything covered in what is a pretty basic situation. Wondering if we can get any feedback to help us. ME (USC Living in the US) w2 wages - Standard deduction Her (Resident of mexico NRA) Has income from MX Has an investment account I've made it through but I'm confused. She has foreign income but i'm not sure if we need to include it since she is NRA.
  5. I’m not there yet, we’re still waiting on dq but trying to make a plan for our lives.
  6. That might be what we have to do. Do I have to send in her passport or can I just send a copy of it?
  7. Thanks - I read through this but didn’t find much sifting through back to 2021. I was hoping for any recent dates to respond.
  8. I was wondering if anyone has an estimate of refund waiting time when you file your first mfj w7 return. Months a year? I’ve read that some people wait a year before it’s processed, trying to see if this is typical as we will need the money sooner than later. Secondary question, I think somewhere I read it’s better to file mfj at minimum the first year but I can’t remember why. thanks everyone!
  9. Just wondering if anyone could share how long it took to get an interview date once they got their dq and file was sent to nvc? thanks all
  10. I don’t know much but according to the othe name change thread, the will use whatever name is on your passport for the gc, visa and ssn. If you want to use your married name, indications are that your passport must have it.
  11. Hey @pushbrk, Would they need to have the name legally changed before it gets sent to nvc? Is it possible to have her change her name once she is in the USA or how does that work?
  12. Thanks tb. I’m getting there slowly. I’ve got a pretty good map of all the things I need to get done. Changing jobs and moving has not worked out financially like I had budgeted for and it’s been difficult, but we are blessed that we get to welcome our baby boy sooner than had we waited for the visa. And in some unrelated info. Jan 22 was the date of our marriage.
  13. Ok thank you all. Sounds like the risk outweighs the benefit.
  14. Thank you, I see people lined up every week when I’m crossing and from what I’ve understood they are just being sent on their merry way. I would never do anything to put her in harm. So this is the kind of feedback that h er los.
  15. What are the repercussions on where could go badly.
  16. Are you familiar with Mexico? 50% of women have been raped and its not even an issue with police. I wouldn’t say frivolous. But understand your point.
  17. Wondering if anyone has thoughts, positive or negative on saying screw it, and just have my wife try to get in through asylum applying at the border.
  18. Same, thanks for everyone’s support. I’m super stressed out.
  19. I saw this, which was what led to to the circus after. Dept of state has no contact point. So would I just have to fly to cdmx and try or can I go to any embassy? I believe it has to be a field office which is cdmx.
  20. @Crazy Cat I’m having trouble locating who I even contact. I called the embassy in cdmx, they directed me to uscis, the uscis number is an automated system only. So then I found an email for uscis and emailed them to first see if they are even doing the dcf still because on their page (https://www.uscis.gov/about-us/find-a-uscis-office/international-offices/mexico-uscis-mexico-city-field-office) it’s not listed as one of their services. Am I on the right path for who to contact for dcf?
