  1. The worst part is, @Pat J, how long have you been in the US now since your last entry? Make sure to not overstay your entry (6 months max for Canadians). Otherwise you'd be out of status and subject to 3 or 10 year bar from entry into the US... Then your immigration will become even more difficult. As to immigrant visa, I think it's gone.
  2. My photo and fingerprints were taken before naturalization interview, but they still used old photo from my AOS era on naturalization certificate. Can't complain, I look younger on it 😃 No additional photos were taken before ceremony. I had same day oath.
  3. Sorry you had to jump through hoops to get it updated despite N-400 form says it's done automatically. I wish there was more transparency about this change and official announcement. Or officers / people conducting oath would give the warning.
  4. One thing to consider: MPC is available to anybody, GE is for trusted travellers. Theoretically, there's more potential scrutiny / checks for somebody using MPC vs using GE
  5. Does the friend use TSA Precheck? It's part of GE benefit. Also, I never use US Govt Mobile Passport because: 1) I don't want to install any apps on my phone, that's a potential backdoor and breach of privacy 2) I rarely see dedicated line for mobile passport 3) I cross the border within 2-3 minutes max with GE, and never seen a big line Same here
  6. It used to be 6-9 months before people got scheduled for interviews at one point. For me it always helped having low expectation. When I filed N-400, I was ready to wait over 6 months (processing time was 7 months). But it was a nice surprise to get approved within 3.5 months. There's many factors here: how busy the office is in your city, whether you have other pending cases (I-751), background, immigration history, and pure luck
  7. You didn't include children in your I-751? Did they receive GC much later?
  8. When I travelled to the US as a tourist in 2010s, I used to get entry stamps. Nowadays, not only the US, but EU and countries around the world go stampless. With US, you have I-94. But I remember one time the history there missed a trip temporarily (showed later), for which I had a stamp in passport. Do you track trips in an app? Perhaps Excel sheet (I did that to track days in and out for N-400). Do you ask for stamps from CBP / border authorities in other countries?
  9. Not me, I think the person hiring a lawyer should talk to lawyers who are going to file VAWA case for them.
  10. No, they'll charge whatever they charge. This is a list to ensure they are real licensed attorneys, not notarios / paralegals / paper preparers. You can talk to multiple of them and see who you're happy with. Good luck!
  11. Congratulations! Don't forget to update status with SSA, get a passport and register to vote 🙂
  12. Hello, what I recommended is a directory listing immigration lawyers who are members of American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). I'm not recommending any particular firm or lawyer. Just giving idea where to find credible lawyers.
  13. How does Philippies birth certificate come into the picture? You said you had US birth certificate
  14. Speed, cost, quality... Usually you can get 2 but not all 3. I'd suggest checking AILA Lawyer search to ensure immigration lawyer (whoever you speak to) is legit.
  15. About explaining oath, yes, it's possible interviewer may ask you questions related to meaning of the words. This typically happens if officers thinks your English is not as fluent. For example, he / she may ask what does it mean to bear arms or what allegience or fidelity is etc.
  16. Busy field office? Pending I-751? Luck?
  17. No, you don't need to remember oath. During ceremony, you will be repeating words after USCIS person.
  18. You can try but it's a hard thing to pull off and can introduce additional challenges. Others can suggest, but I'd just go to consulate in India and get visa if possible.
  19. I'm not 100% sure about this, but isn't requirement for I-90 to be filed on US soil?
  20. Don't apply until it's resolved, otherwise N-400 will be stuck waiting for resolution. If you can pay fine / do whatever to resolve it quicker, I'd do it. Maybe consult a lawyer specializing in traffic violations.
  21. Then it's total made up excuse. How can they lose file in their online database? I never heard of this. 1) Are you from high fraud / unfriendly country? Think Nigeria, Iran, Cuba, Morocco etc. 2) Did you have any criminal past? 3) Did you get GC through marriage which fell apart quickly after becoming LPR? There may be something in your background not making USCIS happy
  22. Sorry about it. I remember it was a 5 year rule case. E.g. no pending I-751 etc (since you had GC from 2012) Did you file N-400 on paper?
  23. Old I-130 needs to be withdrawn if still pending. There's nothing more confusing than two spousal petitions for different people. Of course, new petition will be affected negatively to some degree.
