  1. Thank you! There's a much fresher thread describing how to update citizenship status after becoming US citizen: I successfully did it.
  2. Not yet. Don't claim to be a citizen until you are, it's a deportable offence. After oath you are a citizen. Congratulations! The journey is almost over.
  3. I'm not suprised. Telling one government agency you're married (USCIS), and the other one you're single (IRS) can raise eyebrows and question geniunity of marriage. At least that's what my immigration lawyer told me. Especially if conversation was mostly about tax return, means officer wasn't super happy about this arrangement. I guess, out of 100 officers, 95 wouldn't pay attention to it and 5 would be obsessed with it. On the other hand, if I-130 is approved, this means marriage is bonafide in the eyes of USCIS. I-485 is all about different inadmissabilities related to immigrant's prior trips to the US, their interactions with law, security background, vaccinations etc. Keep us updated @Khas061682. Hopefully it's just a small hold up.
  4. There's way to check cases without login and it's more reliable: https://egov.uscis.gov/ All you need is case number. This website works most of the times even when MyUSCIS is down and everybody freaks out not being able to see their cases.
  5. @alliejourney verbal approvals mean nothing. Timelines given by officer OR MyProgress estimates mean nothing. Most likely, officer needs approval from a higher up, hence a little bit of hold up. Don't worry, your time will come!
  6. Actually, maybe fortunately. This type of job, especially in the army typically causes more scrutiny and higher risk of denial.
  7. Typically one can renew their foreign passport at the embassy / consulate inside the US. But whether it's needed to get birth certificate or not, I wouldn't know.
  8. No estimate is accurate. Neither third party tracker apps, nor MyProgress on MyUSCIS. Some examples from my story. I-751 processing times were 7 months when I filed petition to remove conditions on my green card. It took 20.5 months. N-400 processing time was 7 months again, when I submitted application for naturalization. The case took 3.5 months. On day of my oath, MyProgress estimated 3 weeks until decision. USCIS is a black box. Each case is unique. 16-17 months is what we see currently for I-130s filed 16-17 months ago. But your case can go quicker or slower. And there's no way of knowing ahead. Processing times is one thing we can't control. But we can control quality of our cases and manage our expectations.
  9. Yes, if you have divorce decree, send together in that 90 day window. You can even send it before 90 days if you have it on hands before window opens, divorce waiver allows filing early, any time divorce is final. E.g you can file any time before 90 day window if you have divorce decree. If you don't have it, you can file without decree in 90 day window, but be prepared for RFE in future.
  10. RFE. You'll get extension letter in 4-8 weeks after filing. But RFE will follow asking for divorce decree. And this can be from 3-6 months if case goes fast, or few years until you get it.
  11. Another option for @FROWNcat if DL is valid for a while is just to apply for a passport card and carry together with DL in wallet. Fees should be similar. Passport card definitely proves citizenship and is more versatile than DL for travel other than proving you can drive. Another benefit of passport card it's valid for 10 years, and DL usually for 5.
  12. Very good point. Correction after checking wallet with old IDs. I did have regular DL when I was on work visa. But once I became conditional LPR, I applied for Real ID and have been applying for Real IDs since then. Thankfully, never had any issues getting it.
  13. Sorry you had to go through this. I had no issue whatsoever applying for Real ID on work visa (not even as LPR). I'm in California too.
  14. Technically, you can, but not very desirable. Even when I travelled with my wife, I got asked how often we travel together etc upon entry to the US. You may be held in secondary when reentering the US. What I don't see in your evidence list is proof of living together. Did you have joint lease?
  15. Yes, but you still need to file with divorce waiver and be ready to respond to RFE asking for divorce certificate in the future. That would take at least several months, maybe even a year until you get this request.
  16. I-129F belongs to US citizen. I-485 belongs to immigrant. US citizen should have their own USCIS account. Immigrant should have their own USCIS acccount. Moving forward, any new petitions / applications, such as I-485, I-765, I-131, I-751, N-400 belong to immigrant and should be added to immigrant's account, not US citizen's account
  17. There's no I1751. There's I-751. My answer is still the same. Have: - GC - I-751 extension letter (I-797) - Passport - Marriage certificate This ensures you can travel anywhere you want (as long as you don't need visa) and safely return to the US. Good luck!
  18. Give it few days. Could be a real or "ghost" update. I doubt you'd get approval so quickly. These cases take many months.
  19. You mean BMV, right? Because there's no DMV in Ohio as per my search.
  20. Found it... "Ohio has begun placing “noncitizen” labels on the driver’s licenses and state IDs of those who lack citizenship — a move that may be the first in the nation." https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/2023/04/13/ohio-driver-licenses-now-have-noncitizen-notations-per-election-law/70104226007/ Yeah... This one I'd push back and try to renew with BMV. Maybe speak to different employee or manager. If you became a citizen, DL shouldn't say "NONCITIZEN".
  21. I have DL from California. Nowhere on the front or back of it lists citizenship status. It looks identical from the time I was on work visa until now (last time renewed as LPR). AFAIK it looks the same even for undocumented. If "in the back of it" is SAVE database, then common way to update it (if I'm correct) is through visit to SSA which I described here: https://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/830870-updating-citizenship-status-with-ssa-in-2025/
  22. Yes, $35 is paid on spot. I paid with credit card at USPS. More on fees here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/fees.html
