  1. Yes, people have it all the time. Nothing to worry about. Good that you had additional evidence with you. I bet he anticipated you being caught by surprise, but you were well prepared. Most likely, he either cannot approve the case himself (not enough experience) or it's to do with country of origin (unfortunately, USCIS has elevated bar for certain applicants). You'll probably hear from them in the next few weeks or month. If not, you can sue for decision after 120 days since the interview. Congratulations, you're almost there!
  2. I-765 depends on pending I-485. You cannot get it without AOS pending. Fiance can continue working on E2. Once I-485 is filed, I-765 can be filed together with it.
  3. To me it wasn't clear from the post whether OP's mother was a US citizen at the time OP was born. Maybe I miss something, but OP may have been born to a foreign mother. Later in life father got employment based GC and naturalized... @JeanAb can you help understanding your mother status when you were born?
  4. That's what I also thought, but I'm not an expert in this area.
  5. It doesn't seem you're a US citizen. You needed to live with your father in his full custody at the time he naturalized... Seems like you're an LPR and need to file N-400.
  6. How do you expect to get a passport if you don't have enough proof you're a US citizen for N-600? Even if you get passport now with some luck, you may face same or harder pushback in the future when you try to renew passport. You need to look into root problem, maybe hire a lawyer to help etc.
  7. I'd pay the money and obtain certificate of citizenship once and for all. So you don't end up in this situation again in the future.
  8. Estimates are very unreliable.
  9. Another option is to keep using maiden name until N-400 stage. That way you don't have to worry about your name on green card not matching your name in passport. On the other hand, if you intend using married name, might as well get all US documents in this new name instead of having to update everything. You can start using married name today as @Crazy Cat described.
  10. Yes, you need to file I-130. I-130 is to confirm relationship between US citizen and their foreign spouse. Same goes for kids. So you need 3 x I-130 and 3 x I-485 at a minimum. Ideally they should also get I-131 and I-765 each. Depending on fees you may skip those if comfortable. You also need I-864 for each, I-693 for each. AFAIK, U4U is not considered refugee and cannot get fees waived, but others can correct me.
  11. Congratulations! Can't believe they actually worked on federal holiday 😊
  12. The answer "no" may result you being accused of misrepresentation and cause inadmissability
  13. Estimates are just estimates. They cannot predict things 100%
  14. Yes, people get it all the time, especially if I-751 was pending. Did you have I-751 pending prior to N-400 interview?
  15. Wow that was a while. Thanks for updating us!
  16. Just read threads here: https://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/131-adjustment-of-status-case-filing-and-progress-reports/ 3-4 times a week somebody posts about not getting their receipt a month or more after filing.
  17. Lately it takes 1.5 - 2 months for USCIS to open packet and create a case.
  18. Resident since date + 3 years minus 90 days. This is the earliest date you can file. You don't have to wait extra 2 months to offset your 2 months of travel outside of the US.
  19. 10 months in different state with no clear timeline of coming back to address in Florida. There's nothing more permanent than temporary in this world. I cannot agree with recommendation to use Florida address. @Roms2019 is probably a tax resident of Texas by now with over 183 days living there. IMHO it's an easy denial by USCIS saying the applicant didn't reside in the state in the last 90 days...
  20. Hold long ago did you lose your job? How long ago did you move to friend's address? How long are you planning staying there? You need to update address within 10 days of moving. If you're actually moved to a new address and not temporarily visiting, you should not use your old address for applying for N-400. It will get denied if you don't actually reside there.
  21. My USC wife changed her last name before I went through AOS. She used married name on forms. You use your current legal name, whatever it is.
