  1. Hi thanks for sharing your experience. Here's existing thread for December 2024 filers:
  2. To the field office. But if you don't know the officer's name, not sure who to address it to.
  3. Highlighting ties to the US where they should be no ties. Highlighting dependency on somebody when tourist should be wealthy enough and self-sufficient to make a trip and go back home. If sibling is ready to sponsor, would they also help financially if visitor was to overstay?
  4. Additionally, if in doubt, can always apply for N-400: 1) 4 years and 1 day after coming back to the US after long trip OR 2) 5 years after coming back to the US after long trip. Also, you're not applying for dad. Dad is applying for N-400. You may help, but he must understand what paperwork is being submitted and how things are being answered. It's his own application. He's expected to be proficient in English and understand forms to naturalize.
  5. I'm not 100% surw about exception on medical grounds. He can definitely submit paperwork for it. But in my understanding, USCIS will be far more interested in ties to the US he maintained. Such as: lease in the US (or continuing paying mortgage towards property in the US), water, electric bills paid. Employment in the US, assets and savings in the US in bank accounts, brokerage accounts etc. Car in the US, driver's license showing US address. Taxes paid as required... Rest of family living in the US. Those would be things to prove he maintained life in the US. I'd focus on these first and include medical surgery evidence as a secondary item.
  6. No, sorry. The things change all the time. During my I-751 SRC was fastest then became slowest. I don't know how it's doing today.
  7. Unlikely. USCIS operated on fee basis. Over 90% of their operation doesn't depend on government and funds from government. Cancellations happen due to various reasons: weather, scheduling errors, staffing, change in workloads, incomplete background checks or officer needing to take time off due to sickness etc.
  8. You're not mistaken for a AOS case like this, I-693 needs to be sent in with other forms. Agreed on that.
  9. Did you move addresses since filing I-485?
  10. Yes, check out instructions PDF document for K-1 on USCIS website.
  11. You make it sound very transactional... Bear in mind, each case is unique. Two people can file cases on same day at same place. It may take 6 months for one case and 18 months for another case. Plus timelines change all the time, especially since we now have new administration coming. You cannot predict how long the case will take. It's like predicting stock prices.
  12. It is indeed cruel, but even if you were allowed to contact them more frequently, they'd say stuff like "your case is still being processed". USCIS doens't have enough resources to get calls more frequently. Also, most of the times there's not much agents on the phone can do. It's almost like it's a phycological helpline you can call to get somebody to listen to your frustration. Guess what, we have VJ for this 😅
  13. No, if you only stayed at his address few days a week but your main address was your parent's address, you don't need to list it.
  14. When applying for citizenship, USCIS will look at the trips in the last 5 years. This is why the recommendation is to wait 5 years from last long trip, so it won't be covered in statutory period when N-400 is reviewed. Since OP was allowed into the US as LPR by CBP and not given NTA, it was determined that LPR status wasn't abandoned.
  15. Congrats! Glad CC didn't get declined.
  16. This is normal. Give it 4-8 weeks
  17. Congratulations! Which office had same day ceremony?
  18. Did you note officer's name? You could, in theory, write a letter outlying facts to see if it helps them to make a decision.
  19. Right, what's wrong with cutting all ties to home country right before or right after coming to the US. Especially if there may have been no real ties afterall. I'm not being sarcastic, you may get an interview and get asked these questions by officer. Your case looks suspicious. It may invite more scrutiny. It may sail through. We're just pointing out potential issues based on fact pattern you shared.
  20. Whichever route you pick, you'll have to prove relationship and marriage. Combining finances is beneficial for many other reasons outside immigration. Not comingling finances definitely makes USCIS job harder as it's one of the fraud indicators they have to check.
  21. The SS card can be updated to remove wording even as a conditional LPR. In this case it will be identical to SS card any US citizen has. But there will be update to database when becoming US citizen if checkbox on N-400 was checked or you go to SSA to update information.
  22. One is an official watermarked document, and the other one is a copy for your convenience. As far as I know USCIS prefers working with original documents, not copies. I know for sure copies work half of the time or less when used to get any government benefit. Maybe most USCIS office security would give it a slack and accept as document to enter government building, but some stricter folks would want to see original watermarked doc and not something anybody can print at home. Just like most USCIS officers would insist to see original passport and not copies. Just like a police officer would want to see your real Driver License not a copy. Even though information is identical on copies and originals.
  23. Welcome to the club! 90 someting percent of USCIS operation is funded by fees, not funds sent by government. They are not going to be affected much.
