  1. so for the future, updating my passport name would make sense. but isnt the whole greencard tied to that one passport? i wasnt sure if I can just change the name/get a new passport without having to do anything else
  2. ohh I see So I had my flight now booked for a later return date back to the US with my wife having to leave earlier. I am now considering changing my flight to the same date as hers because of the responses here. I think it is kinda sad that you gotta be concerned and can never really feel safe and assured. It should not be like this when you go through years of paperwork and thousands of dollars invested..
  3. but i mean in all reality, if its for good reasons? what is there even to be doubtful about. The whole purpose of a greencard is to become a lawful permanent resident, that doesnt mean you have to travel together ALL the time right?
  4. she is coming with me but will have to travel back a bit earlier due to her new job starting. why do you ask?:)
  5. Hi, I just gor my greencard last monday and now want to visit my home country as soon as possible. I just suffered a loss of a family member and I am planning to go over there for around 6 weeks. After that I am hoping to start a job here in the U.S. (already applying atm). Traveling abroad should not be an issue, right? For returning back to the U.S. I was gonna bring my marriage cert, my greencard and the approval letter and maybe a few more USCIS docs I received throughout the last months. The only thing that worries me a bit is that my passport still is in my "old name" while my greencard has my new name (we hyphenated our last names). However, that should be covered by having the marriage cert. as proof of legal name change, is that correct? I was going to book my flight tickets in the name that my passport shows (= old name). Some confirmation or anything else I may need to worry about would be very much appreciated here. thank you!
  6. well i did not expect it to be this easy. did not need a single document from my 300 page binder i guess it is still important to just have everything ready and with you. lets you have some peace of mind. also, for lifting conditions in about 2 years you could basically need everything again
  7. yes that would be the black/white answer. I am saying that is also clearly says "If required, a completed form I-864 with all required evidence (unless already submitted)." The section where it says "everything you submitted" is referring to If your eligibility is based on your marriage, in addition to your husband or wife coming to the interview with you, bring:"
  8. Hey, no im referring to the interview notice for a greencard interview (marriage based). it includes a list of what you must bring to your interview.
  9. Hey, my interview is coming up and we are finalizing our binder with documents. We are hesitant with our joint sponsors document. In the interview appointment notice it says "If required, a completed form I-864 with all required evidence (unless already submitted). Now, we submitted everything already with our AOS application. Later on it states under "If your eligibility is based on your marriage, in addition to your husband or wife coming to the interview with you, bring:" And then it lists this: "The originals and copies of each supporting document you submitted with your application. Otherwise, we may keep your originals for our records.". This is where we are unsure on whether this includes everything submitted with the I-864 as well. Our joint sponsor probably would not want us to run around with his original birth certificate and passport/ID. Does anyone have an answer here?
  10. thanks guys. Would that include the submitted forms as well? Or just any additional evidence that has been submitted since we started the K1 journey, such as photos, affidavits, bills, travel receipts, etc?
  11. Hello, I haven't been on here for a bit but now I got my interview scheduled and a few questions popped up. We filed in February, Biometrics was April 4th. I did not hear anything about my EAD application yet. Is that odd? From what I see, the EAD gets approved pretty quickly and then the interview scheduling takes at least a little longer. For the interview, do we bring everything we submitted throughout the whole K1 process? Or just additional evidence? Or just evidence since our AOS filing? In the schedule notice it says "The originals and copies of each supporting document that you submitted with your application. Otherwise, we may keep your originals for our records." Thank you for any responses. I hope it is going well for all of you.
