  1. On of the main reason why Montreal got into this crazy long waiting time is because Trump put a moratorium on Green Card at the start of the pandemic which created this crazy backlog. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/21/us/politics/coronavirus-trump-immigration-ban.html
  2. My wife and my daughter (3 years) had their interviews in July 2023. My wife brought our daughter to the interview and there was no problem at the Montreal Consulate.
  3. I saw your reply after posting my first reply. Yes, if you have other options than Montreal, you should choose another like 485. The only downside with 485 is that you can't leave the country while applying for 485 unless you get AP (advance parol).
  4. Sadly, yes. My wife and my daughter were in the same situation as you. I got my green card via EB2 when I was in the US. My wife went back to Canada to study so she couldn't get the green card with me. We decided to go with the I824 process which is initially faster than I130 but much slower when you are waiting for the interview at Montreal. The whole process took more than 2 years... Their DQ date was June 2021 and their interview date was July 2023. Unless the processing time dramatically changes, you will wait almost 2 years... If you were unlucky, you could get DS5535 and wait even longer... Good luck and hopefully everything will go faster!
  5. Does NVC specify the date and time of the appointment that they have booked for you with the consulate? The letter specifies the date and the time for your interview and tells you everything you must bring for the interview. And how far in the future do they book the interviews? We got DQ on June 10, 2021. We got our letter on May 19, 2023 and the interview date was on July 27, 2023. And how far in the future do they book the interviews? I see the average time it took for ILs to go out after DQ is around 55 days and the average interview date after DQ is around 600 days. Does this mean that your Interview Letter points to your interview date in almost 1.5 years from the time you receive your IL? You got this inversed. Once you DQed, the average waiting time before you get your IL is around 600 days, and after your IL, the waiting time is around 60 days. What did your IL say in terms of the date they booked your appointment? I am trying to find out when I would be able to know my interview date. Unless thing dramatically changes with the Montreal consulate, you won't get your IL until late 2024 or early 2025. I really hope for you that thing changes but looking at everything, I really doubt it. Sorry for bringing some bad news.
  6. Hi @Mjuve My wife and my daughter were in a very similar situation as you. They had their interview (E2 category for their immigration visa) at the consulate in Montreal on July 27th. The office said the same thing as you where the CO couldn't approve their visas because she had to check more information. The CO gave them a white 221G with additional processing marked and kept their passports. When my wife asked the CO, if she will receive an email, the CO said that she could call her if more information was needed and never mentioned anything about DS5355. The CO also told my wife that the process could take up to 3 weeks. Luckily for us, the visas were issued on Aug 1st and we received our passports on Aug 2nd. I hope your case will be sorted out ASAP.
  7. Yes, your friends are very lucky. My cousin in Boston wasn't as lucky as your friends. His EAD took more than 11 months and his GC took more than 14 months. His Advance parol never got approved even though his father just got diagnosed with Parkinson's.
  8. It is sad that after all these waiting times, they can't even handle your paperwork properly...
  9. Thank you! You were right! I was just afraid something could go wrong again...
  10. My wife's and my daughter's visa were finally issued! Their interview was on July 27. Our timeline: March 2020: I got my green card. (Since my wife and my daughter weren't in the US with me, they couldn't apply with me) Nov 2020: I-824 approved June 2021: DQed May 2023: IL July 27, 2023: Interview: Visa status: Refused: They got 221g (white) because they had to check my wife's previous US entry. She got denied at the US border once when she was on J2 due to the border officer's error. The Visa officer kept their passports. The visa officer told my wife that they will call her if they need more info. Aug 1, 2023: Visa status: Issued.
  11. I see. Thank you for the info @ALC. I just checked their visa status and they got issued! I hope that your case will be processed sooner rather than later and this nightmare will be finally over.
  12. No. Apparently, the VO told my wife that they could call her in case they need more information but they didn't say anything about an email when my wife asked the VO.
  13. Hi @ALC, did they keep your passport? My wife and daughter had their interview in Montreal on 7/27 and they got the white 221g because they had to check my wife's previous US entry. The Visa officer kept their passports. My wife asked if they would email her for the information, and the VO told her they had her number so they could call her if needed. We didn't get any emails or calls from them and I'm wondering if we should contact them for it or just wait. Is anybody on this thread went through a similar situation to us? If so, what was your outcome? Thank you in advance.
  14. Just got the ILs(July 27) for my wife and my daughter!!! Finally, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
