  1. Thank you for your help! I will do that. I was looking over my documents one last time before I sent it and had one more question if you don't mind helping. When I first uploaded the tax documents, I uploaded a tax transcript for my father (joint sponsor). The NVC responded asking for a W2 and 1099 to show his income, but my father did not have those forms. Instead, I had his accountant write a statement that my father only has a Schedule E and K1 and also uploaded those subsequent forms to the NVC portal. After that, our case became documentarily qualified. With that being said, I was planning on sending over those forms (Schedule E, K1, and Accountant Statement) alongside the Tax Transcript and Tax Return. Do you anticipate that during the interview they will ask for a W2 and 1099 again? Would the letter and the other two forms be enough evidence to get the okay from the interviewer? Or should I prep something else (not sure what honestly) to prevent possible delays? My thought is that since the NVC approved it with those documents, it should be fine - but I can't help but be worried about the whole thing. Thank you, and I hope you have a Merry Christmas James
  2. I know it states that proof of status AND domicile is required. For status, it lists a photocopy of passport as acceptable. But with what you said, do you think bringing just a photocopy is okay? I would prefer not to send my whole family's passports abroad in case they need it. In addition, on another site, one proof of domicile is a tax return. However, I know for the interview, I have to bring the tax forms anyways. Do you know if it is acceptable to use the tax form to fulfill both requirements? Or would that be considered "double-dipping" and I should bring another form of proof of domicile? Thank you!
  3. Hello, my partner and I just received our interview date for January 2024. We have been looking over the document requirements and had a few clarifying questions for a few of the documents. Sorry if some of the questions seem dumb or idiotic, we are just stressed that we may accidently forget something and wanted other's opinions/thoughts. Thank you in advance! For the record, we are getting our information from https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Supplements/Supplements_by_Post/GUZ-Guangzhou.html#pre_interview_checklist In terms of affidavits of financial support - some background: we ended up filling out an I-864 for me and my dad (joint sponsor). We also submitted a I-864A for my mom. 1) This means we will need to bring the IRS tax transcript for the 2022 Tax Year for my mom, dad, and I. My mom and dad have the same transcript as they filed jointly. In addition, we will also be bringing the appropriate tax returns/W2s/Schedules/etc in case they need them, but understand that this is extra and may not be needed. 2) Proof of my status and my parents' status in the USA: using passports 3) Proof of domicile of my parent's status and mine in the USA: Bring utility bills, credit card statements, etc <--- is this necessary? Or are tax forms sufficient? 4) On the website, it reads "Affidavit of Support Photocopies: The affidavit of support must account for all applicants on the petition. Each derivative family member needs to bring one (1) photocopy of the principal applicant’s affidavit(s) of support. If each applicant has their own individual petition, each affidavit of support must include that applicant’s own name." What does this mean? Is this just indicating the I-864 and I-864A forms, or is it indicating something else? Also, in one of the emails the NVC sent to us when our case was first created: it said this "Please Note: You must bring the exact original of any scanned document you upload to CEAC that NVC accepts to your immigrant visa interview. Failure to bring the exact original you uploaded to CEAC may delay the processing of your case." However, in the instructions on the website, it said that photocopies are allowed. Does this mean we need to bring original copies of me and my parents' passports and utility bills? Or are photocopies of those okay? Lastly, I just wanted to make sure that for the photographs and birth certificates, it is asking for the applicant NOT the petitioner. I do need to take any photographs or bring my birth certificate. Thank you, James
  4. Hello - my partner and I are currently in the process of waiting for an interview invite from the NVC. We have been approved up until this step. We did some research and found that sometimes there can be delays if a W2 or 1099 form is not present for the interview. For financial documentation - I do not currently make enough so my father is co-sponsoring me. For financial documentation, we have uploaded our previous tax returns as well as IRS reports. However, since my dad is self-employed, he does not have a W2 or 1099 form. Prior to NVC approving our information, they asked for my father's W2 and 1099 form. I reached out to his accountant and they provided a form that said that my father does not have a W2 and 1099, and instead he only has a Schedule E. For the interview, what should we bring to make sure that there are no delays in the processing? Is the form (on official letterhead) from his accountant enough? Or should we provide something else? Thank you!
  5. Hello all, I wanted to inquire about the possibility of contacting the local senator after getting documentarily qualified. My spouse and I were qualified a couple of months ago, and we heard from other sources that contacting your senator may help in speeding up or getting more information about the status of the case. I was thinking of doing this as long as it didn't have any potential of hurting the application. I was wondering if anyone else had any experience with this. Thank you!
  6. Okay thank you, I will reach out and see if they would be willing to do that. I appreciate your help.
  7. Yes, I submitted an I-864a for my mother. For her taxes, I submitted her W2 form and their joint tax transcript - but I left a comment stating that the transcript would be the same as my father's since they filed jointly. For the letter - is it simply enough to state that because they are a family-owned business, they do not have a W2 or 1099? Then I would write that after speaking to their accountant, they recommended attaching the Schedule E form to show individual income. Would that be satisfactory? I was a little surprised to have to do this because I had thought the transcript would have been enough. As a follow-up question, do you think it would be any safer to just upload their entire tax return along with the other schedules? I just don't want to get another RFE if possible. But I also don't want to respond to their request of a W2/1099 with a whole 40 page tax return either... Please let me know what you think would be the best - attaching just Schedule E and a letter, attaching both Schedule E and Schedule SE alongside a letter, or attaching the whole return. Sorry for all the question - I am just a little anxious about this whole thing. I thought I had double checked and uploaded all the required documentation the first time, so I'm paranoid that I will forget another document and get another RFE. Thank you for your patience and help.
  8. Hello, sorry to bother you again, but I seem to have run into a problem... As they file under married filing jointly, I submitted my father's 2022 Tax Transcript and my mother's W2 form. On the I-864 form itself, I reported my father's income by subtracting their total amount from their joint return with the amount on my mother's W2. I just received a RFE from NVC asking "Please submit every 2022 W-2/1099 form for [FATHER'S NAME]" However, I'm not sure how to proceed. As I mentioned previously, my dad owns a business with some other members in his family and his income comes from that. I looked through his tax forms and did not see a W2 or a 1099 form. I also spoke with the CPA who helps him with his taxes, and they also informed me that he does not have a W2 or 1099 form. They suggested that if I need to show some proof of individual income, I could attach his Schedule E. I also have his Schedule SE if that helps any. I do not have a Schedule C. Therefore, what I was thinking would be to add three forms under my father's name: 1) Schedule E to show individual income 2) A Letter Explaining that my father is self-employed and is a business owner and does not have a W2 or 1099 form. Would this be appropriate? I would also like to add that the "income" on his Schedule E is a little less (about 4,000 less) than the amount I obtained from subtracting my mom's W2 wage from their total reported income. I'm not sure if this would be a problem. Thank you for your assistance, James
  9. @pushbrkSorry for bothering you, just wanted to hear your thoughts on this. Thank you!
  10. Hello, thank you again for your help. I have prepared the documents with more detail and just want to double check what I have is correct. Me: I-864, Proof of Assets (I have attached my bank statements from last month, 3 months ago, 6 months ago, and 1 year ago), Evidence of Income (since I am a current student in school and just working by-semester as a graduate teaching assistant, I have attached my semester-stipends from Spring 2023, Summer 2023, and Fall 2023), Tax Return Transcript for 2022 Dad: I-864, Proof of US Status (Biographic page on Passport), Tax Return Transcript for 2022 Mom: I-864A, Proof of US Status (Biographic page on Passport), W2 form, Proof of Marriage (Tax Transcript from father shows status as filing jointly, and also a hand-written letter signed by both mom and dad saying they are married) I did have a few follow up questions as well - I looked through the I-864 instructions and it mentioned obtaining the tax transcripts through filling out the IRS Form 4506-T and having the IRS send the transcripts via mail. Rather than doing this, I downloaded the tax transcripts online. These are the same transcripts correct? Second - I know in the previous post, I mentioned attaching my father's Schedule E. However, since I am now attaching his tax return transcript, I do not need to attach any schedules correct? The instructions for I-864 state that only if we are qualifying using his income, we would need to upload the appropriate schedules. Since my mom is filling out the I-864A, I should not need to upload the schedules. Third - For I-864, is reporting the assets of the intending immigrant recommended? I know the instructions state it is optional, but I wanted to ask to see if it was really optional or not required, but highly recommended. Thank you for the help James
  11. Sorry for the double post - but from what I'm gathering still, I guess a more complete list would be.... Me: Previous year tax return, Proof of Assets, Evidence of Income, I-864 Dad: Previous year tax return, Schedule E, Proof of US Status, I-864 Mom: Previous year tax return, W2 form, Proof of Relationship, I-864A but I'm still a bit unsure about the different types of sources I can supply. I know it mentions that tax transcripts are faster than tax returns, but is it a substantial difference? VisaJourney's guide mentions providing the tax return as a main and the tax transcript as an alternative. Also, would a letter for Proof of Relationship be enough? It seems too little, but it also seems to qualify based on the information provided.
  12. Sorry about that - this is where I am getting my information. Potentially I need to look at a different source? For me: For my dad: For my mom: Then specifically for each of the categories, I am referring to the financial evidence table linked on the same page. Do I need to be looking at a different source?
  13. @pushbrk Thank you again. I will be going to my parent's place to get the paperwork needed. I came up with a list based on the instructions given on the NVC and CEAC websites, but just want to confirm I dont miss anything. I also had a few questions because there were a few documents that I wasn't sure what the best method was. For me: Evidence of Income - will include documents from my work that show my stipend as a TA. Proof of Assets - since my income is lower than the 2 size household threshold, I will attach a screenshot of the balance in my bank account. Dad: I dont believe he has a W2 because he is self employed. I will attach his Schedule E and his Proof of US Status (US Passport or Naturalization document) Mom: She is filling out the I-864A. I will attach her W2 form Proof of Relationship - her marriage certificate with my dad is in Chinese, and I would prefer avoiding the notary if possible. The CEAC mentioned that they could just provide a signed written letter stating their relationship with one another. Is this good enough? Or should I really try to find something else? For the letter, I figured we could write something like "Hello officer, my name is (mom's name), and I have been married to (father's name) for ________ years. We currently reside at (address)." I also had a question regarding the tax forms. CEAC and NVC mention that it is okay to upload either a tax transcript or a photocopy of the tax returns. Is there a preference for which method would lead to faster review or does it truly not matter? Thank you again, you have been so helpful and have played such an impactful role in this process for me and my partner.
  14. Thank you for the help. I just got a hold of my mom's W2 and saw that there were two different W2 wages. The wages listed in the social security and medicare wage boxes are higher than box 1, which I believe is for the "wages, tips, other compensation." Which value do I subtract with to get my father's total income? Thank you again.
  15. Thank you again for your help. I apologize for not reading the instructions fully. I just want to again clarify a few things just to make sure that I am on the right page. I will report my dad's "current income" for this year using the income from the previous year. Since he is self-employed, sometimes the total income changes, but it would be okay for him to just base it off of the previous year's earning since there is not any anticipated large change. When calculating his "total income" I will subtract the 2022 total income by my mom's 2022 W2 earnings. This amount is still larger than the I-864p requirement for a household of 4. The instructions said that the "Income you are using from any other person..." is optional if your individual income exceeds the I-864p requirement. However you suggest that I still put my mom in this section and write her W2 earnings because most of the officers will like to have that information anyways. I will then help fill out a separate I-864A form for my mom. In both my dad and mom's I864 and I864A forms respectively, they will have the same "total income" for the most recent 3 tax years. I will also include my mom's W2 earnings in the "individual annual income" part in both the I864 and I864 in their appropriate sections. Regarding the following section on the "assets," because my dad's current annual household income is more than the I-864p requirement, he would not need to fill this portion out. Similarly, because neither of them are using any assets to sponsor my spouse, my mom would not be required to fill in the asset portion of the I-864A either. For my I-864 form though, I would need to fill out the assets as my total income is under the I-864p requirement and the instructions do not mention it being optional even if there is a joint sponsor. Thank you for reading through my response, I am honestly not the most experienced regarding taxes and these forms and really do appreciate your help. Thank you again.
