After contemplating for weeks, I reached out to two law firms for their opinion on filing a WoM. Here's my experience: Hacking: Great youtube videos but terrible service. I'm sure he's an excellent lawyer and his business probably quintupled in the last few months but they have been unable to keep up (horrible staff with virtually zero regard for the customer). My interpretation of his videos is: file WoM at the earliest. I sort of agree. Given my experience with them, even if I do decide to file, I will go with someone else. PIC: Super fast responses but a bit too conservative, in my opinion. They discouraged me from traveling to the US, even on a short personal visit, until the AP is sorted out. I don't agree with that. If I am able to sell a kidney, I will hire them. They highlighted that my case isn't old enough yet (filed in 2019 and AP'd end of March '23) so I should wait a minimum of 90 days before we can file. I have been unable to confirm the 90-day rule and I don't think it exists. They kind of said that, when presented to a judge, the case should show that you are in a lot of pain/trouble. And any level of anxiety/nervousness/lack of any clarity doesn't constitute "pain". Basically, we are exactly where we started from and the waiting goes on, and on, and on, and on....

Hi, I just crossed the 3 week mark but I'm thinking of WOM after we reach the 60 day threshold. $4K is a lot to resolve this but I'm still on the fence... Are you planning on filing?

I don't think this is up to Montreal. Our interview was going more like a chat at Tim Horton's when suddenly the interviewer's facial expression changed. Something, somewhere got triggered and I was thrown into AP. Surprisingly, they only asked me to submit the DS-5535 (and no one else on our application).

Hate to say welcome to the club 😅... Had a few daily updates after the interview and after submission of DS-5535 but nothing since then. Its says "Refused" but its supposed to be that way until the forms are processed or unless they need anything else. I'm trying to not check CEAC daily as its driving me nuts but not sure what else to do. Seems like its a common process at Montreal and several other Consulates/Embassies. Just hope this is over soon.

@PZibran325 I just saw your timelines at the bottom of your response. Have you been in AP since June 2022? Seriously?! Have you thought of WoM? Has anything else been asked of you besides the DS-5535? I feel sorry for your situation but salute your patience... I've been here for 4 weeks and already getting super irritated by the process and lack of clarity.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I just can't rationalize spending another ~$4K just to get a response, but then...

Hi, Can you please share the approximate timeline for the whole WOM process, i.e. from the time you engage a lawyer till the time they actually file? I'm seriously considering a WOM as well. Don't want the medicals to expire (that'll add more time and cost to this saga). I was given the DS-5535 and sent it immediately. Some updates were done on CEAC and now again, radio silence... This is quite a roller coaster!

Hi everyone, DS-5535 veterans: will any of my previous employers be contacted for verification? I'm trying to call some of them but they've probably changed numbers or simply ignoring me. Thanks.

If I understand this, you were asked to send in police certificates and your passport? If that is correct then yes you should send in both. DS-5535 is an email and no specific form exists for Montreal (other consulates have used a form though). I don't know why would they send someone for extreme vetting via DS-5535 but call for passports without first getting an all clear. This is confusing.

Furthermore, DS-5535 was an email and passports need to be sent via courier. My assumption is that security clearance is a prerequisite to passport request from consulate. Again, waiting forever...

@ak47 @throwitaway I got the 221g with both DS-5535 request and "passports for all applicants". This is confusing. Plan of action: - Sent DS-5535 already and now waiting. - will email consulate in a few days to ask if I need to send in passport I don't think them (or us) holding the passports means anything. Extreme vetting will take its own course and nothing is predictable at this point.

And that, exactly, is the confusion... because, VO said this: "We'll ask for your passports if you are approved" I'll give it some time and then send them an email requesting clarity.

I hope your words come true quickly! Yes, a .txt file. In fact the VO said I could add my responses directly within the email as an alternative. I haven't worked with .txt files in ages so formatting was a pain. 221g slip was issued with the following: - DS-5535 for primary applicant - passports for each applicant Funny that nothing was asked of my spouse who was actually refused a visit visa just 4 yrs ago.

Does anyone know how long will the medicals remain valid for? Thanks.

@PanFriedTofu and @ak47 I'm in the same boat... I sent in the DS-5535 information (specifically as a txt file like they asked for) but I don't understand what does "Passports" mean. VO mentioned that they will ask for it "if you are approved"... Interviewed on Mar 27 and VO was super nice. I got the email next day and submitted my information 2 days later. CEAC still says refused but the update date changed after I sent in my email. So it seems like all activity with the consulate is logged (which is good). The Great Wait 2.0 begins now...
