Essentially. However, on the day of interview - they still give you a sheet of paper that says you passed the interview and that you are being recommended for approval. In some cases, they let you take the oath same day and give you the naturalization certificate as well immediately after Oath.

The officer printed the approval (not approval notice) at the end of interview and congratulated me.

You can sign on Naturalization certificate same as you would sign any legal document.

This morning I was scheduled for Naturalization ceremony oath in Hartford, CT USCIS office at 8.30 am. The actual ceremony started around 9.15 with a short speech, followed by handing over US Flag plus packets with Pledge of Allegiance, Oath, passport form, voting information, etc. plus a yellow envelope from White House which  had a letter to new citizens from President Biden. This was followed by Oath and then they handed out Naturalization certificates to the new citizens. Everything was wrapped up by 9.40 am. This afternoon, I applied for the US passport at the local postoffice. This ends the 23 years and 23 days journey that began in 1999 with student visa arrival in US. Good luck everyone who is still awaiting. You will have your citizenship soon.

Update from my interview last July 27 2022
    Santa Ana office.

My schedule is at 9:00 AM, they let me in at 8:45AM.  Checked in and dropped my letter in the designated window. The officer called me in at around 920AM.
we started with the civic test- i was only asked 6 since i got them all correct. Then yes/no questions from the form. And ask what my current and past position/job in my current and past jobs.

The officer didn’t ask for any document except my 2 greencards (the 2 years and 10 years) and passportt.

After the interview the officer congratulated me and told me to go to 3rd floor for same day oath. I finished the oath and became a US Citizen by 1130 AM.

Goodluck to the others and just be parient.

Had my interview yesterday, smooth and quick experience. Oath the same day. Officer was rushing my interview because the certificate office closes at 2pm and my interview was at 1:35pm. Made it with 4 mins to spare. So happy to be done with the process. Now to do all the admin! Good Luck to everyone still waiting!!!

    Phew,

It's been quite a journey! I've almost crossed this finish line. Check out this bonkers timeline.

    Submitted online: March 3, 2020
    Biometrics: March 24, 2020
Covid hit and office closed one week before my appt.
    Biometrics#2: Feb 27, 2021
    Interview: June 29, 2021
Interview went great, nailed all the answers but interviewer claimed a file was missing in his packet and that it was a processing error on their end. He had to request to get it special delivered and that as soon as he received it in 3-4 weeks he will process the approval and get a notice for the oath ceremony.
Approval notice: July 12, 2022 - 3-4 weeks, yea right. 1 year later and 6 emails later and it finally arrived. So excited!

I just wanted to share my experience. I know the wait times are excruciating and at times feels like a denial is inevitable with the delays, but hang in there.

    Thanks!

Here are my passport and social security record update timelines.

    01/05/2022: Oath ceremony
01/05/2022: Applied at USPS in Philadelphia (didn't expedite)
    01/07/2022: Received and In Process
    01/28/2022: Approved
01/29/2022: Received passport book in a USPS Priority mail envelope
01/31/2022: Received passport card in first class mail
02/10/2022: Received naturalization certificate in a yellow looking envelope
02/17/2022: Updated my Social Security record From Green Card Holder to US Citizen using just my passport card and a filled out SS-5 form. I was lucky enough to get an appointment at my local office by calling the national number (800 772 1213) instead of my local office who never answers the phone. I believe you can also use the dropbox at your local office to do this but I didn't want to take that chance with my original documents. If you have to use your local office dropbox, I suggest you just use your passport card as citizenship evidence and they should mail it back to you. That way, you're only taking a risk with your passport card just in case it goes missing.

The journey is truly finally over. Best of luck to everyone

    N400 Applied online: 02/05/2022
    Receipt and Biometric waived: 02/05/2022
Interview scheduled: 07/26/2022 at Fairfax, VA (got notice on 06/16/2022)

    Interview experience:
    Scheduled time was 12:40pm.
Got there at 12pm and waited until 12:15pm. The door had a sign saying masks are optional and I chose not to wear one.
Gave it a shot at going in early at 12:15pm (instead of 12:25pm) and trying my luck. The security guard gave me a tough time for coming early by 10 mins and not listening to some of his instructions, which I swear I did not hear him say. They still let me go through the security check and asked me to go to the second floor.
I walked to the check in desk and gave my appointment notice. The lady checked me in and asked me to wait. There were around 7 people waiting there before me. 3 officers came out and called for three of them. I was expecting others to be called before me but to my surprise a officer came and called out my last name at around 12:35pm.
The officer greeted me and asked me how my day has been and how I got to the interviewing location. The officer walked me to their room and asked me to keep my documents on the table. The officer then asked me to raise my right hand and take the oath. At the end, I said “Yes, I do”.
The officer then asked me to sit down and hand over my interview notice, Green Card and passport. The officer said we’ll first go through the civics, reading and writing test and grabbed my documents.

    Civics test:
Name one American Indian tribe in the US - Cherokee What is one power of the federal govt- to print money What is the highest court in US- the Supreme Court Who is our current president- Joe Biden There are four amendments in the constitution about who can vote. Describe one amendment- Citizens 18 and older can vote What do we call the first ten amendments to the constitution? - the Bill of Rights The officer stopped after question 6 as I got all answers right.

    Reading test:
The officer pointed me to a tablet screen that showed “How many Senators do we have?” and asked me to read it aloud.

    Writing test:
The officer then asked me to write on the tablet screen with a touch pen “We have 100 senators”. He repeated this sentence twice and asked me to write hundred numerically.

The officer then moved on to my N400 application and verified my name, DOB, current nationality, address, job details etc… The officer asked me if I have ever been arrested. I answered No.
The officer then showed a summary of my information on the tablet screen and asked me to sign a couple times. The officer had a big file on the desk with all my previous applications and supporting documents. It was surprising to see them have all my paper work.
The officer printed out a paper and pointed that I passed the civics, reading and writing test and they are recommending my case for approval. The officer returned my documents and congratulated me.
The officer also mentioned that I should be receiving my oath ceremony appointment in next 2 weeks and will need to get the printed paper they handed over to me, GC and passport.
The officer then walked me out and showed me the exit door. I walked out of the building, looked my watch and it was 12:41pm. So the interview only lasted a total of 6-7 minutes.
Checked my phone around 12:44pm and saw two USCIS emails that the N400 case status was changed to approved and that I had been placed in queue for Oath ceremony.
Almost done with this process. Cannot wait to get done with Oath and start the US passport process.

I and my wife applied N400 on Jan 15 2022.

My wife had her interview in Hartford CT office on June 23 and I had my interview at same place on July 12. We did not get the oath same day since our interview was in afternoon and the oath cutoff is at 1.30 pm. The office seemed very efficient and the USCIS staff was very courteous and appeared very kind. The interview included raising hand and agreeing to be truthful, followed by picture and fingerprints. Reading/Writing a simple sentence. This was followed by the civics exam - Got all 6 correct. The officer went over the N400 application and asked about who sponsored the employment green card, details of children, marriage, inquired about any pending tax payments, memberships of professional organizations, any driving tickets, etc. Overall, the officer made me feel comfortable. After 23 years of living and going through student visa, multiple H1bs, followed by Perm/I40/485 and multiple renewals of EADs/APs, I485 approval in 2017, the N400 interview concluded in an approval recommendation by the immigration officer. On next day (July 13), the online case status changed to "Oath will be scheduled".
Now awaiting the oath ceremony letter.

Case status has been updated online to show "oath ceremony to be scheduled". I wonder if anyone has experience with the timeline at the Kansas City office from interview to swearing in? The journey is coming to an end thankfully..

Hi all! Just got update this morning that interview was scheduled for late June in Kansas City. Looking at the letter, it does not look like they need you to bring along many documents at least for employment based green card holders. Anyone being through this previously? Did you have to take all your documents even though they might not have asked for them? Thanks
