Pardon I am late....Welcome
Hi All!
I am new here. I hope I can help you guys and I can get some advices!
I am Turkish and My husband is American. My husband has been in Turkey for 6 months. We will send all the papers this Tuesday to Ankara (DCF). Before we send it I have a couple questions.
My husband never got the residince permisson! He went to Cyprus every 3 months and renew his visa. When we called the consulate they said it's no problem as long as he has the entries and exits on his passport. We didn't get any resident visa for him because I talked to a few people they told me If he gets it then the consulate causes a lot of problems (like they tell him to go back to the US by himself and prove his resident there) so he only has the tourist visa. Do you guys think it will be a problem?
Also I didn't see anywhere in the form If we need a cover letter but here everybody says they wrote one. Do we need one?
When we pay the 355$ at Fortis bank(Cashier's check) are we gonna say it is for immigrant visa? does my husband (American) or do I have to get the check?
We will send it this week and one of my friends said that it takes for 8 months! is this true? I thought it takes for 3 months.
Thanks for all the answers
How is everyone doing?
Wishing everyone well....
Debbie

Hello, people! Thought I'd say hi another Turkish k-1 filer here. I've had a look at the posts related to Turkey, and it seems like the Turkish beneficiary is usually male? o_O It's interesting reading the stories of those that have managed to go through with the process. Makes me think about potential problems with adjusting... Our process is in the NOA2 stage, we've just received approval on the 15th. Pretty quick. I can't help but expect a late RFE or something. Sure hope not... also pretty clueless about Packet 3, I think we'll end up waiting for the consulate to send us the list before starting to collect anything...

lol...omgosh Erika I am a space head these days, pardon me please. I should keep my mouth shut sometimes
Oh Deb, Hamit finished his military duty! I was talking about 10K for IVF! You are too cute.
Congrats on the baby girl! So exciting. Better give us pictures when she's here lol!
Thanks Mindi!
Whatever happeed to Julia? How are ya Wendy?
How is it for all the newbies here?

Jenn,
My heart just broken for you!!! and am speachless....InshAllah this too shall pass and your health becomes strong. Ameen.
All my thoughts and prayer are with you, Fuat and your family. I have gone to the web site you listed, Thank you for sharing that with us.
It is so nice to hear that Fuat is doing well. AOS took us about 5 months, give or take a few days then ended with an interview. InshAllah you can get the paperwork in the mail so the process can be started while you are recovering.
I wont make this long. PLease let us know if you need anything.
Please take care
{{{hugs}}}}
Debbie
Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to drop in and let you know what's going on. Deb... as you will soon see, it has been way to busy for me to send you a PM and I apologize.
First, Fuat and I are doing well as far as his adjustment to the country is concerned. The last few weeks had one much better and we were finally settling into a routine.
But, I have some bad news I wanted to share. Last week, I was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer. I'm still in a little shock, and I can't believe Fuat is going to have to go through all this after everything we;ve done to try to be together. It just doesn't seem fair that we fought to be together for two years... he's here less than a month and then THIS.
I won't give a lot of depressing informaiton here, but if anyone wanted to keep tabs on what's happening I have a web site you can check.
It's www.kast2006.com
This is the web page we used for my sister, when she was diagnosed with Leukemia. We'll use it now to update people on me. I warn you.. the picture of me on the page is pretty darn funny and was taken when we were teenagers ( love my 1980's glasses ) but it's a great way for people to keep updated on me.
Now, I need to try to get everythign done for AOS, and mailed in, before I go into surgery on Friday. I am hoping we can get through all this without an interview, since I won't be able to travel for at least 6-8 weeks.. but I know that may not be possible.
I know he can stay in the country, but I am going to need him to be able to work ( and there is a job for him at my company).. so I NEED that AOS. Keep us in your prayers. Insallah this will all go well and we can start getting back to normal soon.
Take care,
Jenn

Hi Erika,
Gosh, wishing things were better for you guys with the job issue. You asked what can one do...I would just have him get as much schooling in as he can. Keep him busy and meeting new ppl will hopefully keep him un-depressed about the situation. Pray things look up for you guys so very soon.
10k for payoff from military duty? If I remember correctly, he must have worked 3 years before he can "pay off" the military issue and has till he is 36. (this is foggy for me now...please correct me if I am wrong) He can apply for a 1 year clearance to military so he can get back into Turkey for a visit (must do this yearly if he wants to visit yearly). All can be done thru email with Turkish Embassy here in the states to get it going, rather easy. Also he can renew his passport too if need be at the same time (it is cheaper here).
Pardon, what is your next step? Citizenship?
Hang in there and best wishes
debbie
Wonderful that your hubby got a new job! Crazy how the economy is so bad that one would consider moving back to a country where the economy is supposed to be "worse," nuts!
Hamit still cannot find a job. Wish it wasn't such a bad time...but what can one do? His English is now good enough to take a driver's license test and he is doing so now! We are holding off of IVF as we have no money and I cannot get OT to pay the 10K needed, but I hope the economy hurries in time...I am 35 now!
Jenn how is Fuat adjusting? I am so thankful hamit didn't have too much a time of it. Everyone is different though!
Congrats on the pregnancy kennyandhandan! Yay!
Much happiness to all!
-
Jenn,
Very nice to know all is going well. I am so happy to hear that things are calming down for Fuat...Sometimes it's easy..sometimes it just is very hard and takes time.
Congratulations on your marriage
Just so excited for you!!! cant say it enough...I know your busy and will be from here on out. But if you have a free moment, please pm me.
Hugs!
debbie
Hi everyone,
Since Fuat arrived I have barely had time to get on here...wanted to let everyone he is doing well and each day gets easier. It was really rough at first, but starting to calm down now. We got married on March 30.. but have the wedding planned, for my family, on May 1. Ended up getting married earlier than we had planned.. but the legal part is done now.
once we have a ceremony for my family we can wear our rings
Hope all is well....

Merhaba Camistanbul,
That is wonderful news about the job!! Things are looking upward now.
Happy belated Anniversary
Best wishes always
debbie
Merhaba! I haven't been here for a long time, but I wanted to share the good news. My husband has landed a fantastic job! We moved to the Bay Area over a year ago and unfortunately, he could not find work. He probably applied for over 200 jobs, had a ton of interviews, but because there were so many senior IT people out of work, it was impossible to find a job. We didn't waste time and he enrolled at a local college to take more IT classes, and did an internship with Cisco. Then last week, he got not 1 but 2 job offers! He took the better paying job with full benefits, at an international company, and will start on the 19th! Yay!
We've been in the US for a while, but it feels like this is a 'second beginning' for us. He was starting to talk about going back to Turkey for a while, even just to work for a few months, so he could help take care of things. We're both so incredibly thankful that didn't have to happen!
Anyway.... we got the news yesterday morning on the job offer and it was also our 2nd anniversary! Kismet.
Hope you're all well!
-
Congratulations.....
Wishing you all the best at the Interview
I received my interview letter!!! obviously FBI was able to process my finger prints card this time! the interview is scheduled on April 27th! I also received an e-mail saying uscis has approved my EAD application!waiting for my card now! and last but not least I received my AP documents yesterday!
Jenn congratulations! I am sooo happy for both of you guys! I hope all is well with you and Fuat!
-
Congratulations...so happy for you both
We had a sonogram today and apparently we're going to have a girl!
-
Jenn.....I am so excited to hear from you!!! PM me when you have a SPARE minute.
Hugs!!
debbie
ps....gosh I have been away for awhile cause all these new changes with this web site are huge...gotta learn it all over again, thats if I deside to stay around..
Deb, now that the PM system is working again I will try to send you a message later today. It's been crazy around here, but I am leaving for NYC in two days.. can't believe this is actually going to happen
One of my friends in the September K1 thread went to Social Security the other day and they told her Fiance he did not need to apply for a Soc. # because he will automatically get one. Something about that little question on one of the forms that asks if you want to apply for one ( don't remember which form that was on). I remember asking about that question, in another forum, when I was filling out Fuat's forms and someone said that we had to answer it.. but K1's do not get the Soc. # automatically. Some other visa types do. I am pretty sure the person at her SSA office was wrong... and he will not get his SS# automatically. We've told her to have him go back, but I thought I would check with all of you.
On another note, I hope David and Melek had good luck today. They waited a year from the point of going to NVC to their interview. Hopefully they received good news today and there were no more problems.

So happy for you Jenn you must be so busy. If you have time shoot me a pm?

I am soooo happy for you Jenn

My hubby contacted the Consulate in California to do both. Yes, he can defer his military duty based on marriage. They have paperwork at the consulate you need to fill out and send to them with his passport. They can email it to you. After it is approved they will send you a letter which he will keep on his person while visiting Turkey that states his duty is in deferment for a period of time. When the letter expires he will have to repeat the process every time if he plans on returning to Turkey. The passport renewal is easy. Fill out the paperwork, send them the passport and $$.
I can’t remember too much about the process but here is the web site to do both.
http://www.konsolosluk.gov.tr/
Sorry about my memory.....hope you are able to find some info on the web site.
Best wishes,
Debbie
Thanks for your info! We got married in Turkey. Do we still need to register with the embassy?? If so, how? The old man (Consulate General in Chicago) told Ramazan that it didn't matter about his marriage and his visa...that he must work for them to defer his military. I say that is BS, but he is the only person they put us through to. And, the guy refuses to talk to me.This is what infuriates me: In October, we paid $145 online to renew the passport for 4-5 years. After that, we learned that we needed to submit proof that he filed for AOS. So, once we received the USCIS receipt, we sent his passport again, but since they raised their fee to $165, we sent an additional $20. Then, we got into this issue of the Consulate General telling him he must work....blah blah. So, he said he will extend it for 6 months, but we need to send in $34. Why the h*** can't they just take the $34 from the flipping $165 they already have?!?!?!! We must send a petition for them to refund that money. You are kidding me. So, my husband won't argue with the old man, and the old man WILL NOT talk to me.
We live in Indiana, so I figured the Chicago Consulate was the logical choice, but would we be better off getting his passport back and trying a different consulate?? This is ridiculous! I am so frustrated.

Your welcome Melinda,
We both have some wonderful stories to tell ;-( ....awaterlilily and mine are very different but still can cause many many tears. We are here to support you ;-) Feel free to shoot me a pm if you need to.
Have a wonderful day,
Debbie
Debbie and awaterlily, thank you so very much for sharing this. I can't imagine how hard it is going to be for all of us. With the enviornment that my kids have grown up in (NO respect for their abusive dad) I don't see them giving Necmi any respect right away. I have told him to be prepared for the "Your not my dad..you can't tell me what to do..." We are just now learning how to behave becuase it is the right thing to do..not because Dad will be mad. I have told him my two oldest are sexually acitve. He is trying to get use to the idea. He asked if this is normal for America..I gave him the latest stats on virgins graduating form HS. He was speechless. I have told him my kids are naughty naughty naughty. He thinks my 9 year old is cute in her naughtyness:) Ohhh, when that misconception is found out:) My husband is of nooo help here. He calls Necmi racial slurs in front of the kids:( I am comforted by the fact that I am not the first to go through this and that all of you are here to act as a sounding board and for adivce. Sagol!!Pray..Pray...Pray for us!! Luften!!

Ready made families....... ;-) umm this is a hard one. Very, Very hard and difficult.
My American children / teenage girls meet Turkish Muslim man (Culture/Religion shock for everyone)
My children talked on msn chat, emailed..I tried to get them ready for change. BUT, it just didn’t happen the way I thought it would. "Caught in the middle" is a huge understatement...Huge ;-))
My youngest moved out right away and moved in with her father.
My eldest.......I thought for sure my eldest, a Basketball star for most of her childhood. Which was being scouted for college basketball would be fine. Then high school starts....she became a lesbian, started cutting, became a huge pot head then dropped out of basketball and barley graduated from high school. My perfect honor role daughter with scholarships and a bright future. Who would have thought......
Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk......TALK before he comes about everything, don’t sugar coat it because american children can be Nasty! They have sex in middle school, smoke, drink...everything starts young. Parents don’t have control like we use to. It is sad!
Mind you, our problems in this area are really intense, not all ready made families get in this type of situation...but it can happen, just know that. I guess that is all I am trying to say.
I just wish people would share more about the issues of adjusting, Religion, culture, families and so on. It is not all peaches and cream.. but yet I think most wanted it to be perfect ;-) I know I did.
Sorry if this causes any discomfort.
Best wishes,
Debbie
I'd say that counts. I'm sure they know it's difficult...not to mention expensive... to get kids halfway around the world to meet someone. I did manage to bring my kids to Turkey to meet Ozzy once, but it was only because I already had their passports...and that was only for a week, hardly enough for them to really know each other. I think the efforts to maintain a long term relationship via phone and IM and sending gifts count even more...and mention his attempts to get a visa to come here and meet them. They certainly don't make it easy to ease kids into the new relationship with someone and there's not a lot you can really do about it other than what you're already doing.
It's not so much an issue for getting the visa, I think, as it will be something you may need to be sensitive to once he is here and you are married. There is a huge difference culturally between the way kids are raised in Turkey and here and that has been a big clashing point between my kids and Ozzy. He expects a lot of them and while I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing, its difficult for them to understand that he is trying to help them become better people and not just being bossy or mean... I am kind of caught in the middle of that sometimes, trying to explain them to him and him to them, and I'm not sure if they'll ever really come to understand each other, which makes me sad...

Hi Jenn,
We had proof from the beginning, middle and toward the interview date. Also photos and all the other stuff submitted (a full 2 inch Binder) I am the type that cuts out the "what if's"...better safe than sorry. So my husband took tons of proof.
Maybe cut back on the MSN chat stuff and just include some up to the interview date.
Best wishes,
Debbie
Our interview is four weeks from tomorrow and I will be leaving for Turkey in about 3 weeks... I think we're ready, but both starting to get a little nervous.I'm starting to reconsider how much proof I really should take with me. When I filed the petition I included every email, photo, MSN conversation, Skype SMS message, phone bill, facebook conversation, etc. from the day we met to the day I sent in the petition.
When we sent in Packet # 3, we included all the proof we had from the day of filing the petition to the day of sending packet # 3. The only thing they don't already have would be the phone bills, photos, MSN conversations, a few receipts from packages sent, SMS messages, etc. from the day we sent packet # 3 to the day we go to the interview... and some cards, etc. that we didn't send with the other stuff. We figured we would just take those with us.
Should I take copies of EVERYTHING with me, or just the proof from time of packet # 3 to the interview. I have everything prepared, and was going to take it ALL, but the MSN conversations alone fill a couple of binders... and we still have three weeks of daily MSN conversations ahead of us. It's a huge amount of stuff to try to take in there and they already have most of it.
But, if I should take it I definitely will! Any thoughts from the people who have gone through this already?
-
My husband also...We don’t have a large Turkish population at all. Mainly just students and a few Dr's and such. I think it would have been better to be in an area that was more populated with Turks. Even a larger Muslim population would have been better.
No one ever said adjusting would be easy that’s for sure.....but then again we dont get much feedback after our loved one arrives. ;-)
Best wishes
Debbie
My husband and I have discovered that some Turkish people living in the USA are difficult to trust. We had a bad experience of being taken advantage of, lied to, and manipulated all because they wanted to use us and our money. Maybe it's just the Turks living in this area or the group that we had associated with (who turned out to be a family of criminals!), but my husband refuses to meet or be friends other Turkish people in USA.I tried to find Turkish groups for him, but he wasn't interested.

This wont be a problem. I too had a recent divorce and it never came up. The age difference never came up also. Try not fo freak out too much ;-))
Take care,
Debbie
I have a question. I read on another thread that it could be a red flag at the embassy if there has been a recent divorce. Necmi and I will both be in this situation. Has anyone heard this before?? Gosh I have such a long time to be freaking about this one!! -
Hello,
Welcome to here ;-))
We are in Washington State but right next to Portland, Oregon....seems most couples are on the east coast or inland a bit. My husband is from Antakya.
Stay warm ;-)
Best wishes,
Debbie
