    Yes they are NOT allowed to come with you. I’m pretty sure there’s a specific requirement if you need them to accompany you but if you do not need that, then it should just be you going in alone. The furthest your partner can come with you is outside the building when you are waiting in line.

    Yes, I got two emails pretty much back to back. One was from usvisa-info saying “The U.S. Department of State Consulate located in Montreal has released document related to your Visa application to our courier Purolator” it then provided my tracking number and some other info. The second email was from Purolator providing me with my tracking and pretty much the same email you would get if you got tracking info for any other shipment of yours.

    Congrats on your approval! I am also curious about this question. I checked the same field in some form (I don't even remember which one anymore lol) but, I am wondering what happens now? I created a USCIS account to track my I-551 Permanent Resident Card which is apparently supposed to come within 90 days (most likely sooner I'm assuming). But, what about the SSN? Does anybody know anything about that?

    Thank you so much! I paid it the day I received my passport and I did it online. I had plans of crossing to the US the same day as well and I was actually worried if it would cause issues paying online in case there was a delay in processing the payment but nope, all good! I’m pretty sure you can pay it later too but, I would suggest doing it before attempting to cross. Thank you! And yes, of course!

    Thanks so much! I paid premium delivery to get it to my house but I don’t believe you pay extra for tracking. You get that regardless.

    Hi everyone, I finally have some great news. My status changed from "Ready" to "Issued" on December 23, 2022. I received tracking info on December 29, 2022 and received my passport on January 3, 2023. I also successfully crossed to the US on January 3 as well. Got really busy over the holidays and with the moving that I didn't get the chance to update you all. The tracking would have been received sooner and the passport as well however, due to the Christmas and New Year holidays, it was delayed. Regardless, happy to finally be done with this entire process!

    My status still says "Ready" and has not changed. I had sent an email to the embassy on December 14th prior to this status changing. On December 19th, the status changed to "Ready" and last update date changed to December 19th as well. Shortly after, on December 22nd, I got a response from the embassy. It was still their generic response: -- Thank you for your inquiry. We acknowledge receipt of your e-mail and the additional documents you have provided. This case is currently pending to be reviewed by a consular officer. As soon as the review is complete, the Visa Unit will advise of the next steps if anything else is needed to complete processing the case. Thank you for your patience and cooperation. -- What's strange is that firstly, I didn't send any additional documents because I didn't have to so it's for sure just a copy and paste email and secondly, the last update date didn't change this time when they sent the email so they didn't even open my case when they sent me this email. Previously when they sent the email out to me, the last update date had changed as well. What's good is that they've been pretty consistent with their email response time (5 business days) at least for me. What's not good is that the response doesn't really give much info lol. I guess ever since my status changed to Ready, I've gotten more impatient because I feel like I'm so close and I just keep wondering "what're you waiting for?!!" but, now it's December 22nd, and we're getting close to Christmas holidays. I'm not even sure if we'll see any progress now because of that. What do you guys think? I saw in their holiday schedule that they don't work Monday the 26th. The 27th seems to only be observed by Canadians but, I'm not sure if officers are working this day. Was hoping for some Christmas miracle for all of us so that we can all be reconnected with our families for the holidays. Who knows, it could still happen!!

    This is pretty much their generic response that I also received when I sent them an email with the exception of their acknowledgement of receiving additional documents as I did not have to send any. Your case is currently in Administrative Processing - this is what the "Refused" status is. To answer your question, yes, you should just wait in my opinion.

    Omg! I really hope you are right!! Although I'm not as knowledgeable as you guys are - I would have to agree with @throwitaway! Frequent updates so close together - I would even say regardless of the WOM filing - are probably a good sign! Praying for all of us!!

    Hi guys, I checked my CEAC status today and it says “Ready” with the message: “Your case is ready for you to schedule an interview at the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal. If you have already scheduled an interview appointment, please prepare your documents as directed in your appointment letter and appear at the Consulate on the appointed date and time. Otherwise, please wait until you have been notified of your interview appointment. Additional information about how Immigrant Visa interview appointments are scheduled can be found at: http://nvc.state.gov/interview For more information, please visit TRAVEL.STATE. GOV.” For those who don’t know, I had my interview on November 2nd, 2022 and my case was put into AP and I was given a 221(g). I was told I don’t have to submit any documents. I thought the next status change was going to say “Issued” rather than “Ready”. I already had my interview so that’s why I’m confused. I don’t think there’s supposed to be a second interview for me is there?

    I'm so sorry that you're going through all of this. I couldn't even imagine being in this limbo for so long especially with 0 explanation and no history or flags under your name. Really really hoping that WOM starts to move along for you.

    That’s absolutely insane. Waiting 2-3 weeks just to get a generic response is ridiculous. I know you’ve been on this thread and this forum for quite a while but I haven’t gone back far enough to know your story. If you don’t mind, what’s the reason your case is in AP for that long? Did you get the DS-5535 or 221g?

    I guess we’ll find out! My second time emailing IS today so they’ll probably get back to me in about a week. I believe others have emailed more than once and responses have been more or less the same. I could be wrong though.

    Pretty much exactly the response I got last week. I just emailed them again today. I'm sure the response would be the exact same but, I figured it's worth a try because I was told things would be resolved in a "few weeks" and today it has been 6 weeks.

    It’s ALWAYS the land borders. It’s so hit or miss! Flying is a breeze. Anyways, happy that everything has gone so smoothly for you at the borders and hopefully it stays that way!

    - They knew we were in the process just out of questioning. I happened to be crossing with my wife at the time which was actually the first time. Previously I have crossed multiple multiple times just for leisure. I live 15 mins from the border so it’s so common for me. I was crossing with my wife and we were going to her apartment. She had recently moved to the state that shares the border with my city. I was just helping her move. Everyone I spoke to afterwards (friends and family) said that this was the issue. I had told the border officers that I’m helping my wife move and settle into her apartment. Once they asked our relationship and why we’re in different countries, it obviously came up that we were in the immigration process. Every other time I crossed, it was always for leisure - going out to eat, shopping, etc. This time it was with my wife and it was to HER apartment, they pulled us in. If I had said we were just going shopping or whatever I don’t think we would’ve been pulled in. But that’s okay - can’t change that now. But what you say is very important. I was obviously just trying to tell the truth to the officers. - Yes, that’s correct. I was waiting to be DQd. Which happened the following month. - Yes, IR1. - The trip was literally gonna be 1 day. I was coming back the same day. @ritaburglar is right. There’s generally no issues if you say you’re going for leisure and when you’re planning to return. Unfortunately, I wasn’t as lucky. The officers kept saying that I’m not doing anything illegal and unfortunately it’s just the law. However, since May I haven’t been able to cross the border cause this whole process has been taking so long. They said that I can’t enter while the process is ongoing. So even though they said I’m not doing anything illegal, it certainly feels like it lol. I went from crossing the border just for a bite to eat to not being able to cross at all. They were saying that what if I cross and didn’t come back, how would they know? To that I was like, this process has been so mentally, emotionally and financially draining, why in the world would I do anything illegal or stupid that could sabotage this whole process. (I obviously didn’t say that to the officer lol but was thinking it). Guess it didn’t matter anymore. I wasn’t as lucky. Everything can drastically change based on the officer you’re speaking to. It’s all up to them. I’m not sure of the legality behind all of this so don’t take my comments as legal advice but I’m pretty sure there’s no reason why you can’t cross for a leisure trip while this process is ongoing. You should be able to travel freely as a visitor. Don’t exceed your stay and don’t do anything illegal of course.

    In May of 2022 I was crossing the land border to the US from Canada and they pulled me in for questioning. They said that because my immigration process is ongoing, they cannot let me in and once that is completed, I am free to enter. So on November 2nd at my visa interview when they asked me if I was ever refused entry, I told the officer the story and that’s when I was given the 221g. I was told I don’t have to do anything on my end, they just have to do some additional processing. He said based on your story there shouldn’t be any issues. He suggested I keep my passport with them. I asked him how long it would take - he said hopefully a few weeks. It’ll be 6 weeks tomorrow unfortunately.

    Wow congrats! You're really lucky for everything to have worked out so quickly. I was handed the 221g as well and was told I don't have to submit any documents and was also recommended to leave my passport with them. My interview was November 2nd and I've been checking the status every day and still nothing Hoping for good news soon!

    Hi everyone, Quick back story on my case. I had my interview in Montreal for IR1 on November 2, 2022. The officer gave me a 221(g) form and said they have to do some additional processing on my case (AP). He told me it was related to my refusal of entry to the US earlier this year in May 2022. This wasn't in my DS-260 as it happened after the fact. The reason the border officer gave me was that because my case is currently in the immigration process, I cannot cross until that is done. It was a bit strange because I had crossed multiple times before this just as a visitor but, I was told I couldn't do that anymore either. He said I wasn't doing anything illegal and it is just the law and that I should just wait for the immigration process to be complete. Fast forward, I told this story to the interview officer on November 2nd and he told me this was the reason he is putting it into AP just to confirm my story. He said it shouldn't be any issue based off of what the story is but he has to do his due diligence. He kept my original police certificate and my passport. I asked him how long it would take and he said a few weeks but, could not say for sure. As of today is has been a little over 5 weeks. Last week on December 1st, I emailed the Montreal consulate and just yesterday (5 business days later) I got a response from them. "Your case is currently under administrative processing. While we cannot predict when the processing of your visa will be completed, please be assured that the Consulate and the State Department are aware of your concerns and will contact you as soon as the processing is complete." Looks like it is just a generic response as nothing in their email mentioned any specifics from my case. The interview officer at the time told me that there was nothing I had to do and even in this email there was no direction provided so I'm assuming they are not waiting on any documents from me or anything like that. I know some people were told that they did not need to give any documents but after reaching out to them via email they realized that the consulate is actually waiting on stuff. That doesn't seem like the case for me. Has anybody ever received a response like this before from them? Does responding to that email again even do anything? The CEAC last update date changed to the date they sent me the email but the status still says Refused. So they probably took a glance at my case when emailing me back. P.S. I know this is the thread for DS-5535 but, I was told to visit it as people might have some good insight on AP. Reading all of your posts and how long you all have been waiting makes my 5 weeks of waiting sound like nothing. Congrats to those who have finally heard back - saw a few of those recently.

    I’m not entirely sure. But, the last update date changing on CEAC means absolutely nothing. Asfor the reason for the refusal - it could be literally anything. Really frustrating that they didn’t tell you the reason.

    There was another user who was refused entry at the border - not for anything serious or anything but refused nonetheless. The officer asked her if she was and she answered truthfully. The officer thought nothing of it and approved her on the spot. Later she checked her status and she was refused. The officer called her and told her it was because of the refusal at the border. They had to call the border and confirm her story. 4 weeks later she was finally approved and her passport was mailed. I’m in a similar situation however, I was put into administrative processing on the spot rather than being approved for the exact same reason - The refusal. Currently waiting for my status to change and my passport to be mailed out.
