  1. Yes the visa in the passport serves as authorization work. I had a SSN previously under my maiden name as I worked in the US before, but I had to change my last name due to marriage and it had to reflect what my passport said and it took 4 weeks to get it back after changing my name. Not sure if it's the same wait time but that's the most I can help with. Sorry.
  2. Hi all! My HR department just flagged to me that my visa in my passport shows that it expires in January even though it was only issued in August. I don't have a green card yet so I'm scared that I won't be able to continue working as my work is asking for more documentation. Anyone have any ideas??
  3. Ah yes. Makes sense. Yep, I have a temp for 60 days. If I don't get my license within 60 days, they said I'm to go back to get the temp extended or a license printed at the DMV.
  4. Hi all! I went into the DMV on Oct 5 to exchange my license, which seemed to go fine. They gave me a receipt back and a temporary license and on it, it says they are verifying my legal status and will take up to 60 days. I haven't seen anyone else have to do the 60 day wait before on the forums so I'm just curious to hear if anyone else did. I looked on the FLHMSV website and it says nothing about a 60 day wait period for immigrants. I do see a 60 day wait for non-immigrants getting a Florida license. Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated!
  5. I spoke with an officer at my local land POE and asked if it would cause any issues. She said that it is not advised to activate just to turn back around. And if you are doing that, do not say you are. I didn't want to take the chance and I just waited to activate it when I finally was moving by air.
  6. Just a little update here for anyone interested in U-Box. I was able to move with U-Box and had a pretty good experience. I had them deliver and pick up the U-Box from my Canadian residence at my own schedule, for the most part. I was in a smaller city so the requested date of arrival fell within a couple of days of the original request. Not bad at all. I'm sure if you are in a larger city, they can accommodate on the exact day you like I was told it would be arriving in Florida from Ontario by October 14 and it was picked up in Canada on September 23. It arrived October 3rd! Pleasant surprise!! It cost about $2500 CDN all in and was worth it. The U-box fits a LOT of stuff. If you're moving a 1 bdrm apartment or less I'd say you can get away with one. But again, that's relative to your square footage. They will send you the customs form for you to fill out as well as an inventory list. I didn't have to do fully itemized, but I did a list like: Box 1 - Christmas Decorations, Box 2 - Office Items. If you have questions about the customs form or how to do your inventory, they have a specific email address they will provide to you with questions and they got back to me within 12 hours so it was pretty convenient.
  7. Hey there! I got my passport after a day and half. I paid the $23 premium delivery and it was sent directly to my house. They send tracking information so you can anticipate when it will arrive.
  8. Got it! Thanks all!
  9. Yes. But I'm entering the US before my items as per requirement through the border. I'll be flying ahead of my things shipping. So technically, when it crosses, I'll be a permanent resident. That's where I'm tripping up.
  10. @Icecreamcastles Sorry to bother you - I'm just starting to fill out the 3299 form and I'm wondering what you wrote for "Residency Status Upon Arrival". Did you select Non-Resident > Emigrating to the US or did you select "Returning US resident" as technically your visa grants you permanent resident status. This whole form is tripping me up lol
  11. Nope! Everything was sent to them for me. No issues.
  12. I paid for the expedited courier - interview was Tuesday morning and had my visa in hand Thursday afternoon.
  13. There is parking across the street in an underground parking garage. Their website has the info for you
  14. Yes, only once a month. The interview letter should be due next week or the week after based on previous trends.
