K2 AOS
Scott-Ilyn replied to Etherial's topic in Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas
I'm not sure if this helps, but I will share my experience. My step-children from the Philippines entered the US over a year after their mother's admission. However, the US Embassy allowed / advertised the extension due to COVID being a factor. We filed for AOS, EAD, and AP. They received their green cards with no issue. -
Questions regarding name change
Scott-Ilyn replied to Turquoise's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures
My wife had the same experience. She wasn't able to get her name changed on her SSN until after she received her green card (we applied for but never received her EAD due the green card being received first). -

Citizenship for my under 18 LPR stepdaughter
Scott-Ilyn replied to Scott-Ilyn's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
Sorry. I wasn't accusing you of anything. I was merely asking if my calculations were incorrect. Thanks for the advice. I will certainly include the i-751 copies (and the explanation you suggested) in the N-400 petition for my wife when the time comes. -
Citizenship for my under 18 LPR stepdaughter
Scott-Ilyn replied to Scott-Ilyn's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
My wife applied for i-751 in December of 2024. Unfortunately, they were unable to remove conditions together because stepdaughter was a follow to join and she came approximately 1 year after her mother. See comments above. Wife and daughter did not remove conditions together. My wife's green card expired January of 2025. We have filed for i-751 for her in December 2024. According to my calculations, my wife can apply for naturalization in October of 2025 because it will 90 days prior to her 3 years being an LPR living with me for more than 3 years. How are my calculations incorrect? -
Hello, I have been reviewing some websites and I have a few questions: 1. It seems that once my LPR wife becomes a naturalized citizen, her LPR stepdaughter who lives with us and is under 18, will automatically become a U.S. Citizen as well. Can you please confirm that to be true? 2. My LPR stepdaughter's conditional green card expires May of next year. If her mother's naturalization doesn't happen by February, we will need to file for the ROC for her at that time. Is that also true? 3. When my wife becomes a naturalized citizen, what will happen to my daughter's ROC filing if there is overlap between the two processes? Does it just become disappear or do I have to alert USCIS? Thanks for your help. Scott

Adjustment of status
Scott-Ilyn replied to Dawid1's topic in Adjustment of Status from Work, Student, & Tourist Visas
Hi. If your wife has a written offer of employment, she can attempt to expedite the EAD (work permit). This was possible a couple of years ago with some success and some failure. I'm not sure if this possible any longer but it is worth looking into. -
I-751 December 2024 Filers
Scott-Ilyn replied to Arsalan111's topic in Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion
My wife submitted her I-751 packet on 12/06/2024. We think she will become a citizen before the removal of conditions is processed. 🙂 Good luck everyone. -
Inquiry on USCIS page
Scott-Ilyn replied to catnap's topic in Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion
There is a link below the 31 months that states "When can I ask about my case?" When you enter your receipt date and click the Get Inquiry Date button, it will tell you when you are allowed to inquire about your case. Until that date is past, you are still within processing times. Sorry, the waiting really sucks. My wife is about to submit her i751 too. She's not looking forward to the wait. -
There is a question (Part 1, Question 11) on the i-485 asking if you have an online account number with USCIS. Did you fill that in with your account number? If not, that could be why you are being asked to create a new account. If yes, I think any pertinent documents would be uploaded to that pre-established account.

Cautionary tale Social Security Card name change
Scott-Ilyn replied to ATCSUSNRET's topic in Social Security Numbers
We ran into similar road blocks in Indiana. Since the lack of current name on the SS card didn't cause us any hardships, we simply waited until she received her green card (never received an EAD card or AP document). We too, got her a SS card right after her arrival but before our marriage. I am a federal employee. We were able to 1. Enroll her in our FEHB health coverage without an SSN 2. Open a joint bank account at 5th 3rd without an SSN 3. Add her as my beneficiary for life insurance / TSP without an SSN 4. Obtain her a new PHP passport with her married name We were NOT able to 1. Get a state id / license without a green card or EAD because of the mismatched name on the SS card 2. Get her name changed at the SSA without a green card or EAD Once she received her green card 1. We were able to get her name changed on her SS card. 2. We were able to get her driver's permit, then license after in her married name I hope this helps. -
June 2023 - AOS Filers
Scott-Ilyn replied to Sarge2155's topic in Adjustment of Status Case Filing and Progress Reports
My wife's 2 children (k2, follow to join, with 1 rfe each) received their green cards on June 10, 2024. Almost exactly one year from application date. -
Wrong place of Birth
Scott-Ilyn replied to Rosaly's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures
I agree with Crazy Cat. You are worrying about this too much. I remember looking over my original K1 petition and seeing a couple of errors related to birth places that I made in the petition. They were overlooked and never even mentioned to me as the petitioner or my fiance (now wife) during the interview. -
There is a guide here to help you

June 2023 - AOS Filers
Scott-Ilyn replied to Sarge2155's topic in Adjustment of Status Case Filing and Progress Reports
Hello everyone, My wife's 2 children who came on a K2 visa were approved on May 24, 2024. We are waiting for the green cards now. Our receipt date was June 6, 2023. We had one RFE for immunization updates and an i864 problem. -
DS-260 crime sections - Verdict Appeal
Scott-Ilyn replied to FONA's topic in Diversity Lottery Visas
If you do take it seriously, then please stop minimizing your actions by saying that the crimes were not a big deal and were not serious. I think you have received excellent advice today and also a year ago. Apply and if it gets approved, seek an immigration attorney who specializes in arrests. -
DS-260 crime sections - Verdict Appeal
Scott-Ilyn replied to FONA's topic in Diversity Lottery Visas
You don't seem to take this very seriously. Your arrests are a very serious matter to immigration officers and they will take them into consideration regardless of how much you try to minimize your actions.
