Yes I got my visa approved & issued on the same day of my interview. The officer who interviewed me told us to wait like 2 hours and then come back to the consulate. I have had my visa on my passport since the interview date.

They kept my passport for 2 hours and then they gave it back to me.

Unfortunately I don't know when they're going to resume processing non expedited immigrant visas. I do believe that it's going to take a while for them to do so due to the ~10 month long backlog they got themselves into.

I do encourage everyone here to try expediting their cases. When I had my interview there were at least 8 other people in the consulate also waiting for their interviews, I believe the US consulate in Rio is considering a lot more expedite requests than before.

I really hope they just issue the correct one so there is no hassle. I sent uscis an e-request on their "correcting typo request" even if i dont have the GC yet just in case by any chance that shows in the system when they process it. And we will call CBP now but going in person right now will be difficult.

My experience at POE was a bit baffling to be honest. He was like "well thats not my problem I just care you are legal, you figure it out with uscis". I insisted a bit more and he was like " well worse case you just remove conditions, its not a big deal" LIKE WHAT!?
    So i gave up.

There's no way to schedule your medicals if not through the Consulate, they have to send an email to the clinic of choice telling them that you are allowed to do your medical exams.

On January 21st the US Consulate asked me where I was willing to do my medical exams and I chose to do them in Brasilia. I had to do them first in order to have the Consulate schedule my interview. So after the Consulate got me in touch with the doctor, the doctor told me that she was available on January 29th. I asked her if I could go ahead and get started on some of the bloodwork and other exams before the actual consultation to save time and she actually said yes. I had to go there twice.

On February 2nd the US Consulate contacted me and they told me that they received my medical exams and that my interview date was on February 08th at 10 am.

One more question. Where did you do your medical exams and how many days before your interview did you do them? Im getting too many mix messages about how much time I need. Some say do it one week before others say do it 2weeks before. Its so frustrating. kkkkkkk

How exciting!!!! I just have two questions.
Did everybody get the option to wait and get there passport back the same day?
Did other people get Instructions to go to the ASC the same day also? I find that odd because some people have interviews at 8am, so going to ASC at 7am seems kinda hard.
    Congratulations!! 🎊 🎉

BTW the only reason they checked if I could have my visa issued on the same day was because I asked. Had I not asked who knows when I would have gotten my passport back. So make sure to ask, worst case scenario they say no. if you have any other questions let me know

That is correct, they are only processing emergency cases. You have the chance to convince the US Consulate that your case is considered an emergency by sending an expedite request. Once they accept it, your case will be processed and your interview will be scheduled.

In order to request an expedite for your case, your case has to be at the NVC (National Visa Center). Then, you will have send an email to the following email address: NVCExpedite@state.gov. (Keep in mind only the US Consulate has the ability to accept or deny your request)

There's thousands of posts here on VisaJourney regarding NVC expedite requests I recommend you take a look at them for more info. Also if you want to know the email sample I used for my expedite request here it is: (We changed a lot of things to fit our case)

    Hello,

Great news about inverviews starting up again!
How do you request to expedite your case?

I saw something mentioning that spouse/children applications can apply for emergency interviews, but this is just for emergencies right? They're not saying that all spouses should apply for an emergency interview?
    https://br.usembassy.gov/visas/frequently-asked-questions-immigrant-visas/
(It's the COVID section then the second paragraph of the "can I continue with the immigration visa application process?")

Is a request to expedite the same as an emergency?
