CRBA APPEARANCE QUESTION
seekingthetruth replied to sasha414's topic in Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA)
I don't have experience with Cebu but if you can make an appointment, that would be for the appearance of the child too. Also, look into the Embassy outreach program. I did both of my kid's CRBA at outreaches, avoiding a trip to Manila or Cebu. -
I saw this on Twitter, posted by Libs of TikTok. Hard to believe, so I found the actual video on You Tube. Go to 10:15 in the video.

Wow, that is cutting it close! Happy it worked out!

https://www.psaserbilis.com.ph/Census/Index#! Anybody have any idea how long it takes to get this online, from the link above, and mailed to a Philippine address?

Thanks for your confirmations and advice! I think all of our Philippines documents are PSA, but I will double check. I can't remember when NSO switched to PSA but I think all of ours were after the switch.

Following. I'm the petitioner but I am retired, living with my wife and family overseas. I'm hoping a detailed letter of my plan to reestablish domicile will have some weight. Instead of the letter from the friend (which is not really truthful), make some contacts with realtors or leasing or management companies who will help you find a place to rent. You may be able to open an account with some of these companies, which shows intent.

We already have marriage certificates. I'm going to order a bunch of marriage and birth certificates for the whole family before we leave for the U.S., so I will have a stockpile.

Thanks so much! I am in the CENOMAR application area. I don't see the CEMAR area, so I guess it will produce the correct version based on your entries?

@Chancy @Adventine Directly to the Philippine experts! Chancy, I just read your embassy review. Thanks for that! It is the only recent IR1/CR1 review with detail. We will do the same some day. You mentioned: I presented a CENOMAR, instead of a CEMAR (Advisory on Marriage). The consulate staff were also fine with it. What will my wife (IR1) need and where do we get it? Soon to be 19 year old never married step daughter (IR2)? I don't see any requirements in the NVC civil docs. My wife and I have been married almost 8 years. She was previously married, with annulment. We have all the paperwork. Thanks so much for saving me time!

Tourist Visa - Are frequent trips to US permitted?

This is what I was thinking. The only scenario I see working is if the OP is quite wealthy and can prove it. -
I-864 Assets Question
seekingthetruth replied to seekingthetruth's topic in IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures
I think it might have been pushbrk who told me I could not use the kid's SS. I was going to reread it, but I am unable to find the post. I think it was in 2021. -
I-864 Assets Question
seekingthetruth replied to seekingthetruth's topic in IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures
Yes, our household size is 5. My question is about the formula for assets required. Spouse is 3X the income shortfall. Stepdaughter is 5X, I think. I guess logically, as you indicate, I should just show the assets the same for both I-864, which will be a lot more than 5X. I guess I was overthinking it. Any thoughts on the social security? -
I-864 Assets Question
seekingthetruth replied to seekingthetruth's topic in IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures
Thanks so much! Very helpful for my planning. If I sell the house before visa approval, I might just keep the money in my BPI account here. I am good friends with the manager and I am sure he would be happy to help me with a letter. On the other hand, my US bank is Chase and I no longer have a personal relationship with any branch. It might be hard to get a letter. I can use my investment accounts if needed, but I hope to just use cash accounts. Which brings up a question. Do they just want to see the minimum required assets to cover the income shortfall, or do they want to dig into total assets? I was preferring just to show cash assets for privacy reasons only. Thought of a few more questions! 😉 I am doing two I-864. One for my wife and one for my step daughter. As I understand it, for spouse, assets required are 3X the income shortfall. E.G., 125% of poverty level = 40,000, income = 30,000, shortfall = 10,000. 3X 10,000 = 30,000 assets required, minimum. How about my step daughter? She is 5X? Do I just consider her completely separately and provide the 5X without any linkage to my wife? Last q for now. I asked about this a few years ago but I will ask again. I am retired and I get social security income. My two kids also get a SS benefit that together equals mine. If I can include their SS income, I don't need assets. It is family income that goes into our general fund for all living expenses. I was told by one of the experts here, a few years ago, that I could not include their SS. Any ideas on how I could include their income? -
I-864 Assets Question
seekingthetruth replied to seekingthetruth's topic in IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures
Yes, I was also thinking that maybe that "convertible to cash within one year" might have been the root cause of the "held for one year" misinterpretation, if it is a misinterpretation. -
I-864 Assets Question
seekingthetruth posted a topic in IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures
I just realized today that I will need to throw in some assets to supplement my income on the i-864. Not a big deal but a few questions to make sure I do it right. I reviewed some recent asset topics and it was mentioned a few times that the assets should have been held for a year. I do not see anything about that in the I-864 instructions. Is that really a thing? I do see where they ask for the acquisition date but nothing more. The reason I ask is this. One of my assets is our house here in the Philippines, which is for sale. After we sell, I will transfer the cash to my U.S. bank account, where it will appear as a "new" cash asset. Will they have questions about this "new" asset. I was thinking about including an explanation and a copy of the deed of sale. Also, I will be moving around some other cash assets when we ready to move. If possible, I am going to just show cash assets and not get into investments. -
Thanks, will definitely consider it. All the fare are through the roof until September!

May I ask how old the kids are? My stepdaughter was 17 when we started her IR2 but we have been postponing. She will probably be 19 when she interviews. I'm wondering if my wife will be allowed to attend the interview with her.

I've had bad experiences with LBC tracking but nothing got lost. Strange that the Embassy keeps switching couriers, and different departments use different couriers. Might not be about service but just about the $, and annual contracts. Back when I got my daughter's CRBAs and passports (2014 and 2016) U.S. citizens services was using Air21 and we had good service. When we sent in my wife's passport for her tourist visa renewal, we were required to use 2Go. Terrible experience and a neighbor had the same. Disappeared for over a week. I can't remember who they used to send it back but it was ok. Last June when we went to the Embassy to renew my daughter's passport, they used Air21 to return it, and good service again.

Are you sure about that? I hope not. @Kawika & Michelle I have not used LBC recently but their tracking was not good then. I found Aftership.com to have more information and updated more often than the LBC tracking. https://www.aftership.com/track
