  1. Yeah, it was 42-43 when I moved here is 2012, and I had budgeted for that. The increase up to a high of 59 was sweet. We loaded up on pesos at 58-59. Now at 56 I'm hoping it will go back to 42 the month before I leave.
  2. And you might want to do a reading refresher. I just sold my house and am excited to get going again. Friendly folks here are usually happy to give some quick info that they have in their noggins. I have seen you use the "A Student" copy / paste comment many times, and while that is good advice, it is not always an appropriate response. I will do my refresher when time allows and certainly don't need to be prodded. A few questions, keeping in mind that I have not looked at the I-864 in a while. 1. Can I show foreign currency bank statements, in this case the Philippines? We are hoping exchange rates will move in our favor before we transfer the the money to the U.S. 2. Will I need to show all assets, or just pertinent ones to fit the need?
  3. I have, 2 years ago. After 2 years delay, we are hitting the trail again.
  4. Thanks! I have a lot of U.S. non-cash and some cash assets to show but I would prefer to use just cash assets. The cash I get for the house here in Subic Bay is actually a new asset. Why? I did not own the property. It is a long term lease with the Freeport. It probably had no value for the i-864. Now I have sold / transferred the lease and the proceeds are a real cash asset.
  5. I just sold our house here in the Philippines so I am going to move forward with completing the NVC paperwork for my wife and step-daughter. My income is low right now so I am going to have to show assets. A few questions, keeping in mind that I have not looked at the I-864 in a while. 1. 7. That is not for me to determine. Perhaps there is something in the terms of service or admins can comment. Each case is probably unique. I was just relating what I have experienced in 10-15 years of using various forums and groups. They all have rules and moderators to enforce them, usually unpaid. One forum I have been in for 11 years has a really strict owner who enforces his interpretation of the rules, and calls out violators in very nasty, rude terms. His moderators are reasonable and good people, and try to sooth the feelings he hurts, but he is a jerk. I considered leaving many times, but I have friends there now and we have a very healthy exchange of ideas. VJ is nothing like that. One of the contributing factors is that some become obsessed with online, anonymous posting, and their online post are not the real person. Unfortunately, a sign of the times.
  8. I don't know about the website you are referring to, but it is common for forums to limit what links can be put in the forum. Some links might be to other competing forums or websites. Free to join forums are not free to operate. They need advertisers. Encouraging the user to stay on the site is advertisers want. Allowing users to link to other sites must be controlled because certain links can result in lost users on this forum and less advertising revenue. This is just common business sense.

  10. From his Twitter: In the past 24 hours I have been accused of releasing a pro-lynching song (a song that has been out since May) and was subject to the comparison that I (direct quote) was not too pleased with the nationwide BLM protests. These references are not only meritless, but dangerous. There is not a single lyric in the song that references race or points to it- and there isn’t a single video clip that isn’t real news footage -and while I can try and respect others to have their own interpretation of a song with music- this one goes too far. ......... ........... Try That In A Small Town, for me, refers to the feeling of a community that I had growing up, where we took care of our neighbors, regardless of differences of background or belief. Because they were our neighbors, and that was above any differences. My political views have never been something I’ve hidden from, and I know that a lot of us in this Country don’t agree on how we get back to a sense of normalcy where we go at least a day without a headline that keeps us up at night. But the desire for it to- that’s what this song is about. Full article: https://twitter.com/Jason_Aldean/status/1681382697875144717?s=20
  11. Thanks, good to know. Now that the Skyway is done, I can avoid most of Manila. I hate that city.
  12. This appears to be another slam to women, similar to the transgender men joining women's sports. Not fair at all. In this case, if the winner was a really beautiful trans, I might say it was almost fair. However, this trans winner is not a beauty, so it seems he won only because he is trans. These real women work very hard, just like athletes, to prepare and compete. Then they are pushed aside just for wokeness. If I were the 2nd place girl, I would be getting a lawyer. The owner of Miss Universe is trans. More bias to come? First Place Second Place

  14. Here in the Philippines, many businesses have an armed guard at the door and there is no blatant retail theft. Seems like the U.S. is headed in that direction but only after they hit rock bottom, and there is a Wild West period where good citizens fight back against all the criminality. Then the armed guards take over. Third world.
  15. When is "fair and balanced" PBS going to publish their detailed investigation into the alleged crimes of the current president and his family?
  16. Dershowitz thinks there is some possible solid evidence on some counts, but he pushes the point on how/why this political investigation came about, and is it legal.
  17. The London Times article this is based on is behind a paywall. You can get a 6 month trial for 1 pound, which I did, but I'm not sure if I can post the whole thing here. CASE CLOSED: IT WAS A LAB LEAK The Sunday London Times, out today, has a long, long article about the origins of the covid-19 virus in the lab at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Until the far-off day when Chinese sources open up honestly, it will stand as definitive proof of not just the lab leak hypothesis, but the conclusion that covid-19 was a human creation. Its conclusions are unqualified: The wealth of detail in this piece is remarkable. It lays out the relationships among the National Institutes of Health, American researchers, the Chinese military, and the Wuhan institute. An excerpt: Much more: https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2023/06/case-closed-it-was-a-lab-leak.php
  18. Rolling Stone. I used to read them when I was a pothead back in the 70's. How about some similar honest reporting on Antifa? I have no idea if they have honest reporting on Antifa, but I suspect not.
  19. Pales in comparison to the charges that should be brought against Joe Biden and his family.
  20. This spam in overwhelming VJ. How can a bot post with all these usernames?
  21. I was just wondering about the source, and I have heard about China. Surely the "authorities" know for sure??? Are they not sharing, for political reasons?
  22. Another version of the story: GMA News Online GMA News Online Shorter waiting time for US visa application eyed Story by GMA Integrated News • Yesterday 10:46 PM Shorter waiting time for US visa application eyed Shorter waiting time for US visa application eyed Expect a shorter waiting period in making an appointment for United States visa application as the US Embassy in the Philippines expects to process 325,000 US visas this year. According to JP Soriano's report on "24 Oras," due to the pandemic, Filipinos had to wait up to two years to get a visa appointment, but the embassy targets to shorten the waiting period by four to five months. "It is now about four to five months. We are hoping have it within two to three months by the end of the year," US Embassy in the Philippines Consul General Mark McGovern said. He said that the application for a fiancé visa since last year was also record-breaking. "We're issuing record numbers of these, I believe last year was almost 4,900 fiancé visas that we have issued and close to 22 thousand of the immigrant visas that we have issued last year," he said.
