N-400 January 2024 filers
samdog replied to Rearviewmirror's topic in US Citizenship Case Filing and Progress Reports
Took oath on 5/17, applied for passport on 5/18 (expedite) and received it on 6/9 and then my naturalization certificate a couple days ago. USPS folded the certificate when they tried to jam it into my mailbox but luckily it's not damaged. GLAD to be done with USCIS forever. Time to return my Indian passport and then get OCI. -

Similar to other recent comments - took an oath on Friday, May 17th. Volunteers were waiting outside the courtroom to help submit forms for voter registration so I did that. Then the next day applied for a passport and said goodbye to the naturalization certificate. Fingers crossed that it doesn't get lost along the way! -

LUCKY YOU!!!!! Mine is 5/17 but it's NOT at the Arch 😢 😢 Congrats - both on receiving the oath ceremony invite + having it at the Arch! That's incredibly awesome and I am 10000000000000% jealous -

Same. Know any guides that exist for the procedure to follow for returning Indian passport + applying for OCI card? -

Thanks! ! will pencil a SSA office visit, and I currently have GE and plan to update TTP with changes. I was hoping to see guides for what to do for countries that do not allow dual citizenships - I know I'd have to return my passport to my country of birth, and then apply for some visa with them that allows me to re-enter without needing tourist visas every time. -

Things to do after oath ceremony - obvious ones are to register to vote + apply for passport. In addition to those, is there a guide on what else to do? 1. Does the Social Security office need to know that we've naturalized? 2. Based on whether dual citizenship is allowed - steps to follow to return current passport etc.? 3. Anything else? -

I got one interview letter for N-400 and another for I-751 that specifically said to bring spouse to the USCIS office. They didn't ask me to bring EAD/AP but I had all my USCIS-related stuff in a folder and showed it to the officer. Just got the oath ceremony document on the accoutn and that one does say to bring EAD/AP along with other stuff. Oath ceremony scheduled 5/17 in St. Louis! -

Just finished the I-751 + N-400 combo interview at the St. Louis, MO office. Went in at 9:10 and came out at 9:31. US citizen spouse was present for the first 5 ish minutes and then it was just me later. Officer just verified all the dates and asked 6 questions and then verified my driver's license + passport + (expired) green card + SSN card. They took away my OPT EAD (was on F-1 visa before I met my spouse) and the EAD/AP combo card, lol. They did not take any copies from me that I had printed, and didn't look at any other original documentation. At the end they gave me a sheet of paper that said they have recommended my approval and that they will send oath ceremony appointment via USPS. Case status changed for I-751 as approved and for N-400 as oath ceremony will be mailed. -

You both missed my point entirely....... Of course I am taking originals of everything (passports, GC, EAD, birth certificates etc.) - my intention of making that comment was to ask whether I should take two COPIES of each of the originals in case they ask for separate ones for I-751 and N-400. -

For those who finished their a combo interview, did you take two photocopies of each evidence (one for I-751 and one for N-400) in case they ask for it? Or did you just take all the originals that were submitted as photocopies/ e-copies during both applications? I compiled a list here: -

Just found out that DHS does accept certified copies of the naturalization cerfiticate for initial passport applications. All we have to do is call USCIS and schedule an appointment to get a certified copy once we take oath. Getting a certified copy is free... but if your (original) naturalization certificate is lost in the mail it'll take $500+ (AND you get to deal with USCIS and VisaJourney all over again!) for USCIS to issue a new naturalization certificate. Although there's some ambiguity here: (A) USCIS says original must be submitted for passport application: https://www.uscis.gov/tools/how-do-i-guides/us-citizens/how-do-i-obtain-an-authenticated-copy-of-a-certificate-of-naturalization For example, when you apply for a U.S. passport, you must submit the original Certificate of Naturalization, and you should also submit a normal photocopy that has not been authenticated. (B) BUT DHS says certified copy is fine: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/need-passport/apply-in-person.html#:~:text=ALL%20%2F%20ALL%20%2F-,Get%20evidence%20of%20U.S.%20citizenship%20(and%20a%20photocopy),of%20the%20official%20issuing%20authority. Your evidence must be an original or certified, physical copy. A certified copy is any document that has the seal or stamp of the official issuing authority. -

Is there a checklist of documents that I should take for the combo interview? I have started making one on my phone but wanted to make sure I don't miss anything. -

Question - My N-400 interview invite says it'll be at 9:00AM, and the I-751 letter says that my spouse has to be present on that day because the N-400 interview may be preceded by an interview for the I-751. Does this mean that the I-751 interview could start before 9:00AM? We were planning on arriving at the USCIS office around 8:20AM-8:30AM - and we are NOT planning on bringing our toddler to the interview (just his birth certificate); hopefully they don't need our child to be present. -

Thanks. The wording on the letter is kinda confusing but it'd make sense if the interview for I-751 is before the one for N-400 -

Ditto. Got a couple of letters from USCIS and one was for N-400 and the other was for I-751 that said US citizen spouse has to be there because there's a chance they'll interview us both after the scheduled N-400 interview. -

Yeah the person I tagged hasn't made any posts/comments but their timeline is active and they are from STL whose interview is 4/11 (which is why VisaJourney sent me an email). Thanks for the link to the courts - looks like it'll be 1-3 months until we take oath. -

@W and E also has N-400 interview on 4/11 - just received a notification from VisaJourney because their timeline is similar + location is the same as mine.
