  1. Status updates -- 2020 amendment: Status on IRS.gov finally showed as "Completed" 244 days after "Received" date. We also got a refund notice in the mail the week after we got our refund check. 2019 amendment: Refund check arrived in the mail 250 days after "Received" date. Check was dated 3 days before delivered date. Refund notice arrived 2 days before the check. Status on IRS.gov still shows as "Received". Our 2019 refund check included 10% interest on top of our expected refund. So we earned ~3% interest per year on the 2019 & 2020 refund money the IRS held for us. This tidbit actually pushed us to close our savings account that earned a lousy 0.01% interest, and open a high-yield savings account that currently offers 3% interest a year. Anyway, our 2021/2020/2019 taxes saga is finally done! On to 2022 taxes next month. Happy holidays, bigger refunds, and better interest rates to all! 🎉

  6. Submit what the consulate asked for. If your wife does not sign an I-864A, the consulate may not grant your parents their visas. The requirement for USC/LPR status only applies to the primary and joint sponsors. A household member does not need to be a USC/LPR. This is based on the I-864A form instructions, given that even an intending immigrant may be a household member in certain situations.

  12. Do both. I uploaded new bona fide relationship evidence to CEAC portal the day before my spouse visa interview. I had no trouble uploading to the additional documents section under civil documents. Just make sure the documents are within the 2MB file size limit. Even with PDF compression, I had to break up the evidence into 4 files for upload.
  13. "212 (g)(2)(B) Class A or B (TB)" is a common visa annotation for immigrants from the Philippines who were tagged for additional TB screening. Some immigrants (like me and presumably the OP) cleared their 1st medical after sputum culture testing showed no active TB. Others given that annotation had active TB and completed the 6-month treatment, then cleared their 2nd visa medical.
  14. As mentioned above, it depends on the state/county. I was tagged for sputum testing at SLEC and I got the same annotation on my visa that you did. Within weeks of my US entry, I got a letter from the state health department telling me to report for a check-up. They provided contact info, and when I called, they set an appointment for me at the nearest state health clinic. During the check-up, I did a chest x-ray and IGRA blood test. The state clinic's pulmonologist said my x-ray showed that I definitely don't have active TB, but the blood test confirmed that I had been exposed. No surprise, as my pulmonologist in the Philippines explained that most Filipinos my age would likely test positive if given IGRA test. The state doctor prescribed 3-month preventive treatment for TB exposure. All expenses (tests, doctor's fee, medicines) were covered by the state.
  15. She will need to get fully vaccinated for COVID to clear the SLEC medical. SLEC does not provide COVID vaccines, so she will have to get it elsewhere, maybe her LGU. 1 or 2 shots, depending on the brand she gets. Boosters not required prior to the medical. Details from the SLEC website -- https://slec.ph/faq/us.php
  16. There is no such thing as net neutrality in the Philippines. Internet service providers can and do restrict the apps a subscriber can use, depending on the mobile service plan they are on, as explained above. If your Filipina is on the cheapest plan, it is very likely that she has access only to FB Messenger. Outside of Metro Manila, there are not many establishments that offer free wifi. Even if they do, the person will probably need to buy something from the shop before they can get the wifi password. If setting up an FB account for Messenger is not something you're willing to compromise on, just call or SMS her through her mobile number. Depending on your US mobile plan, you may rack up international call/text charges. Another option is to get yourself a VOIP number for the Philippines, so you can make unlimited calls to the Philippines at a flat rate. I think Viber and Google Voice provide that service, but I've never tried it myself.
  17. Yes, it makes a big difference. For married children of USC, it could take maybe 15 to 20 years to get a family-based visa. Which makes it even less likely that the sponsorship for the joint sponsor's daughter and your wife will overlap.
  18. Because you won't have one (and as @Lil bear said, you don't need it). Because I-94 is only for visitors. You are not a visitor. You are a resident. It says right there on the I-94 website, from https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/#/home -- "A Form I-94 is needed by all visitors except: U.S. Citizens, returning resident aliens, aliens with immigrant visas, and most Canadian citizens visiting or in transit."
  19. "Voluntary departure" would not be a good term to use for what you described, and not a term anyone would want to mention to the consulate. "Allowed to informally withdraw a request for admission" might be better (as opposed to a formal withdrawal which involves signing form I-275). "Voluntary departure" is an actual legal term for the process used by out-of-status aliens in removal proceedings to leave the US at their own expense, instead of being forcibly deported by ICE. If asked by the consulate about being denied entry at the border, visa applicants should not give the wrong impression that they were ever out of status or under removal proceedings in the US.

  21. Whichever payment method you choose, better hurry to re-submit the package. USCIS will release a new edition of the I-485 form on Dec 23rd. From https://www.uscis.gov/i-485 -- We will reject the 07/15/22 edition of Form I-485 if it is postmarked on or after Dec. 23, 2022. We will reject the 12/23/22 edition of Form I-485 if it is postmarked on or before Dec. 22, 2022.
