It all started with a wedding. Emma, an unassuming bridesmaid, and Andrew, a devoted friend who flew 10,000 miles — we were both simply excited to see our best friends marry each other. With a little carefully planned nudging from our friends, including an unscheduled first date to a Foals concert at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. and an infamous chair switch at a bar after the rehearsal dinner, an instant romance blossomed in April 2019. Hailing from opposite sides of the globe — Emma from Dalton, Massachusetts (having resided in Frederick, Maryland since college) and Andrew from Broadford, Victoria, Australia — it would have seemed an unlikely love story. Yet, despite the miles between us and time zone struggles, not a moment goes by that we don't look at each other in the same sun-soaked, excited and love-filled way we did on the day we met.
Emma's visit to Australia in August-September sealed the deal, and we immediately started planning ways to secure a future together. In December, Andrew had planned to fly to the United States for the holidays. Originally booking an arrival flight for the 17th of December, Andrew secretly changed his flight to arrive on the 14th, and with the help of some friends, arranged a surprise proposal. After a day of hanging out with her best friend getting her nails done and going to her favorite restaurant, Emma was expecting her friend's husband to meet them at her apartment so they could go downtown for a drink. A knock at the door came, and there was Andrew down on one knee, ring in hand. An embarrassing display of sweet awkwardness ensued, but long story short, Emma said yes, and the rest is history!
