Constantinople reacted to scudderb56 in US Embassy & Consulate Guangzhou
First thing you want to do before anything is go to ustraveldocs.com and register. This is the only website authorized by the Consulate when dealing with them concerning your Visa.
1.)Medical. First, schedule your medical online through the website indicated or google Health Care Center of Guangzhou International Travel and there may be a link on their website to schedule an appointment. My wife's son helped her with scheduling the appointment, so I don't know how they found the online appointment to get it scheduled. The medical clinic will schedule your medical appointment according to your interview. You will need to be in Guangzhou about one week ahead of your interview. It takes about three hours for the exam. Once the exam is finished you will receive a paper when to come back to pickup the medical report. It takes about 4-5 days to get the report back. If you go on Monday and your Visa interview is on Monday you will get the medical report on Friday. You will receive two medical reports, one for the Consulate in an envelop and one for you(not in an envelop). The one in the envelop is the one you take to the Consulate. Be aware your spouse cannot go into the exam with you. A coffee shop is downstairs on the first floor where your spouse can wait.
2.)Hotels. My wife searched through an app that she has. I think when she called a particular hotel she asked if Americans can stay at the hotel. We are members of Home Inn in China and they allowed Americans to stay. I don't know the Nationality of your spouse, but Home Inn would be a start. This particular Home Inn is also near the Embassy(about a 15 minute taxi ride).
3.)Approval and passports. You may want to stay in Guangzhou and wait for your visa to be processed. I would choose to pick up the visa at a CITIC bank. There is a CITIC bank near the Embassy where you can pick it up. The CITIC bank near the Embassy is about a 10-15 minute walk.
4.)The email from the NVC is the only email you will receive concerning your interview date and time. You will need to print the email and take it with you to the interview appointment. Be aware the medical clinic asks for two copies of the interview appointment email.
If you submitted all of your documents through the ceac.state.gov website you will need to print the application confirmation and take that with you. The medical clinic will need a copy of that as well. In this email there should be a link for interview prep. Follow the instructions from that link. It is in the NVC website. I think the link is NVC.state.gov/prep.
I hope all of this helps. Sometimes dealing with NVC and the Embassy can be frustrating at times. Just remember they are Government agencies and work on their(US government timeframe) and not yours. With the US Government it's always "hurry up and wait." They want you to hurry up and send them what they need and then it's wait on them(to take their time) to process it.

Hey all - thought I'd update for those wondering about interviews in Guangzhou. We were documentarily qualified 13 days ago and received our interview date yesterday (12 day turnaround). Our interview is in less than a month! We're shocked at how fast it was and considered delaying the interview but don't want to risk having to wait months if we do that. I'll post a consulate review after the interview!

    Hi!

I just did the process in Shanghai.

First, I went to a Notary Public Office to find out the exact requirements. Looks like it varies by city. I went with a Chinese friend, just to have some backup. They asked me for the following:

    1. Tax statements from the entire time I've lived in China (was only able to obtain the last three years). I went to my district's tax bureau and they printed them out for me.
    2. Original labor contract and/or work permit from any jobs I've had during the time I've lived here (was only able to obtain it from my current job) and a photocopy of each
    3. Dated letter from my current employer with a company seal stating I have no criminal record
    4. Original passport and any other passports I have had visas in as well as photocopies of all stamps/visas from these
    5. Temporary housing registration form and photocopy

I was fully prepared to only get a partial police certificate since I had no proof other than my residence permits that I was actually employed by my previous employer - they no longer had my original labor contract or work permit. Just in case you are in a similar issue, I would record every instance you tried to get the necessary paperwork for your police certificate, with dates and times. I was prepared to submit this to show proof as to why I couldn't obtain a full PCC. However, I got lucky and had a very kind notary public officer assigned to my case when I went in with all my paperwork. He agreed to issue me a PCC for the full time I was there. I requested it about a week ago and he said it would take 2-3 weeks, so I am still waiting to pick it up. I paid around 200 RMB for it.

Hopefully you have all the relevant paperwork and won't feel the stress I did!!!

I'd suggest you go in with a friend (if your Chinese isn't fluent) and have as much paperwork ready as possible!! Hopefully you won't even need everything they asked from me.

Thank you so much for your help. This was quite helpful. We were able to secure the police certificate. Luckily, we had a friend who was bilingual and fluent in both Chinese and English.  Got it notarized and translated and cost only about 300 RMB.

    Hello everyone,

I just noticed that the Nebraska processing times have been reduced by a few months. I hope this will speed up our applications. They are now at 10.5 months to 13.5 months for US citizen filing for spouse, parent or child under 21.
