  1. I recently processed my ssn in Glen burnie office maryland state. They took all ny requirements and the officer who is the manager told me that it will take 4-6weeks to process my application because verification needs to be done by DHS first, she is not sure also as k1 we are non immigrant visa so we are not eligible for an ssn.

I am checking my case status in SAVE like after few days it changed already to Case returned to Agency. I follow up my case in our local ssa office about my application and everyone keeps on telling me that still under DHS pending for verification

Feb 9- it was 6 weeks already from my application and the guy whom i talked to was able to access the SAVE and told me there was a 'mismatch' but did not specifically mentioned what is it. He asks if I filed for a green card or am i really k1 visa and not with permanent resident visa. I told him all the documents i submitted in their office during my application was my i94 with k1 visa written there, visa stamp on passport k1 visa as well. He told me he will try to send retry for initial verification and after we spoke, i checked the SAVE and i have 2 cases already both dates FEB 9, one was case returned to agency and one case under review with max 6days left just like a new one.

Feb 12- I called back again today because I saw that both cases are now case returned to agency and spoke to the field manager and told me she cannot access the SAVE right now and they still did not receive any notification regarding my verification. She told to just wait because we cannot do anything right now.

I am worried that my i94 will expire on march 23 and wait like forever with an answer 'pending' for verification from DHS. Can anyone suggest what is the best thing I can do? Can anyone suggest any ssa offices here in maryland who can handle k1 visa applying for ssn?

    Thanks so much.

  2. Same situation here, applied jan 6. Tolf my the officer to wait 4-6weeks for the process because DHS needs to verify my documents. Checked my case on SAVE after 3 weeks and written case returned to agency, so i called ssa office again for folllw up and told still under verification. I waited for another 2 weeks and checked with then this feb 9 and the officer told me that there was mismatch. He did not mention exactly what was the mismatch but he asks me if my visa status is permanent resident blah blah..and told him i submitted all my documents with k1 visa class. After which he told me he will try to submit retry for initial verification and after our conversation i checked SAVE and saw two cases already. Another one is there with casr under review with maximun 6 days left box. What does this means?

We have found many of the agents at SS have no idea how a K-1 who is wanting a SSN is to be processed. There is a forum here on VJ that outlines and has discussion. You may want to check that out and see what others are experiencing. We recommend that you get a SSN just after you arrive in the states; first week or two. Then after marriage return to SS and update your marriage with a name change. I wish you luck but don't give up.

Which forum is that for those processing their ssn and having issues?

Hi guys, I've scoured this forum for SSN info + many others. I'm hoping someone can help me with the next step. I think I know what needs to happen but am a little stressed given the rubbish experience with SSA so would appreciate advice / confirmation. Thanks all.

    • Oct 20, 2020:      Entered USA on K1 visa
    • Nov 14, 2020:     Married my US hubby.
    • Nov 16, 2020:     Appointment for SSN with Towson office in Maryland.
    • Nov 23, 2020:     SSA sent me a letter to say my application has been received.
      • Thereafter, I've called every 5 - 7 days, chasing my SSN. I was consistently told that it's been held up with Department of Homeland Security and waiting for DHS to approve. I don't understand why there could have been such a hold up?

    • Dec 20, 2020:     USCIS confirmed that they received my AOS bundle of paperwork.
      • I had selected NO for SSN with the I-765 (employment authorization) as I had already started the process with SSA.

    • Jan 2021:             Kept calling Towson SSA office, still being told it's been held up with DHS.
    • Jan 17, 2021:      My I-94 expired on this date.
    • Jan 19, 2021:      Finally got through to someone at Towson SSA. Says my application is still being held up with DHS for approval. However, as my I-94 has expired, 'it is likely that I will be rejected by DHS and therefore be rejected for SSN' (quoting the SSA agent on the phone).

Without SSN I can't get a license in the state of Maryland + can't be on my husband's health insurance (this is the part I'm the most stressed by).

So now I am thinking my only step is to call USCIS and see if I can resubmit my I-765 to request for SSN with it. Is this right? Any other grand ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello..i am also from maryland state. I just processed my ssn at Glen Burnie office last january 6. They told me it will take 4-6weeks to process because DHS need to verify my documents before they will release ssn and as k1 the officer told me that my visa is non immigrant and we not eligible for a ssn. But then she still took my documents and gave me a receipt eith reference number on it. I kept on traking my case and checking on SAVE as well as with the office and they keep on telling me also that my case stil under review eventhough I can see from the SAVE that my case was already returned in the agency and my next step is to contact the local agency.

February 8, i contacted the ssa office again and tole me that it shows 'mismatched' and so DHS did not approved it. The officer asked me if my documents are all k1 and told him i submitted everything with visa stamp k1 visa class and i94 also k1 class of admission. He told me that he will try to submit 'retry for initial verification' and after that i checked from SAVE that i have 2 case verification one which is case under review with max 6 days left and one with case returned to agency.

Next day i called again and asked, another officer talked again to the officer who process my application and told me to wait for another 4-6 weeks again because my case still under verification in DHS.

Now i am totally confused because I am worried if my i94 will expire and just waiting for this verification from DHS.

The embassy is responsible in releasing the case files NOT NVC. From your description it looks to me as though the embassy is asking for the first in files to be first to be sent out. You're in line, your turn is upcoming. Patience.

So you mean the embassy is the one requesting for the NVC which files or cases they are going to send for each shipping dates? Our noa2 was march 26 and i've seen in one of our groups here in uae for k1 applicants that those with noa2 on july and august where now in transit. Im still confused how come they skip those who got noa2 first.

Hi everyone, we were disappointed to see today that our case remains at the NVC despite Georgia now accepting K1 visas for processing. I called the NVC and the rep said they are waiting for the embassy in Georgia to “request the documents” before they will send.

Does anybody have a recommendation for what we can do? We don’t want our case to keep getting delayed, as you can imagine it’s quite disheartening.

We are on the same situation. Checked our case and still AT NVC status. Been there for almost 6months now but nothing changed. Abu dhabi UAE embassy started receiving cases and scheduling interviews also. A little bit disappointed as well because saw some of my friends who got noa2 last july and august are already in TRANSIT. But all we can do now is wait. Tried calling NVC for an update and on how is their sequence of sending cases but told us the same reason.

I'm assuming this is being asked of me to provide the P3 for UAE?

Don't do anything in advance until the case is ready at embassy and the embassy sends you an email to the petitioner to follow these steps for Scheduling interview, Medical exam, police clearance etc.  Usually takes about 2 months to receive.

You should go to your sub-forum website here http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/97-middle-east-and-north-africa/ and here is a recent thread for some who are processing a K-1 and their recent experience (see below).

If you find anything not up to date or the information is wrong, please share your findings. Please compare the date of the P3 of mine with the date from your copy, once you receive yours from your embassy. Keep in mind that I try and be factual with my information, but I can't do it on my own and that's where you come in and can give back to the community those who come behind you. Without others ahead of you I would not be able to provide this to you.  I can only share factual information if folks like you continue to be my eyes and ears for your embassy. I wish you much success in your visa journey.

Thank you much...God bless you 🙏🏻😇
