  • Our Story
My husband, Huber, and I met in the spring of 2005 herding goats in San Jose, California. I had recently graduated from community college and was looking to move away to a four year school. In the intrum I was working with my friends who had an ecologically friendly land clearing company (goats are cheaper than hand crews and large scale mowing, carbon neutral and fertilize as they go). We had recently gotten a contract on a huge land parcel that the company was just to small to finish by the deadline so a larger company came in to pick up our slack. The other company was quite larger than our own, running multiple sites at a time with thousands of goats and foriegn goatherds working 24/7 for years on end. The three of us quickly became good friends with Huber, our neighboring goatherd.
After the job ended Huber and I kept in contact and I would go visit him at his job sites every so often. When I moved away to college we did the long distance thing. Huber left his job shortly after Christmas, and when spring break came around I took a trip back to California to see him. Soon after I learned of a little spring break surprise that I had picked up along the way. After finishing the school year I moved back to California and Huber and I moved in together and started our lives together.
We got our marriage license but couldn't find anyone to marry us at our selected marrital site (due to a 7 mile hike up a canyon leading from the parking lot on the beach to our waterfall of choice). My daughter was born in December and my mom drove out to bring our little family "home" to Colorado. Before we left we decided we still wanted to get married in California before we left even if it wouldnt be at the falls, So we made a second choice, a small tucked away beach in north Santa Cruz county a few miles south of choice number one.
We have been living here in Colorado ever since, working and saving money so I can go back to school next year and finish up my degree. We tried for a while to find low cost help with filing. When we finally found help we were denied because the type of filing we need to do is outside of the stated range of their federal funding. So now we're going for a real lawyer that come complete with real lawyer fees... And here I am, doing what I can to get everything I can together and started before we have to start paying for it.
