  1. Hello - hope all have had a great start of 2024. God bless all. I have a naturalization ceremony next week. I do not know what to expect. Could one kindly share what it will be about, how long, any issues or things you did not expect? Separately - what is the current wait time for US passport once one applies? I know during covid it was a long wait but not sure about now. Thank you so much!
  2. Thank you. What are the necessary steps after getting naturalization certificate? 1) passport 2) update social security info 3) voting registration is voluntarily? 4) what else?
  3. Thank you. It seems that I was approved and got a naturalization oath ceremony scheduled. Couple questions if you can advise: 1) Does the officer keep the appointment letter? - it appears he took it 2) They took my picture and did fingerprints right before the interview - is it normal? I previously received a letter that I did not need to have a separate appt for biometrics because those were still valid The electronic letter for the naturalization oath ceremony says that I need to bring all my old EADs to the ceremony even if expired - is it really required or needed? Thank you.
  4. Thank you all. Any other advice / experience to share?
  5. Hello - I have a naturalization interview coming up. I am a VAWA survivor. Questions: 1) What to expect during the interview: process, how much time will it take, what do I need to sign etc 2) Steps after the interview - will I be approved after or during interview? Any follow ups after? Thank you - general insight will be appreciated alot.
  6. God bless All. I have been a vawa survivor and am praying for all on this thread. With God’s help and help of this community I am sure good things are to come to you. I am about to have a naturalization interview. If anyone had it and got GC as a vawa survivor - what documents did you bring to the interview and what questions the officer asked you? thank you so much
  7. Hi All - I am based in Houston. Submitted N400 in August. Has anyone naturalized recently and knows the processing time for the Houston office and the time from N400 submittal to getting citizenship?
  8. Does it seem everyone believes that congressman / senator cannot help here in any way? would that be right?
  9. Any customer service phone number from DOS or USCIS one can know for me to call and find out a status? I cannot find one.
  10. Thank you. is AP being done in an embassy abroad where F1 visa interview took place or it is processed somewhere in the US (which center)?
  11. any more advice here? looking for insight before deciding to contact senator / congressman or not? also, are there any other ways to try here?
  12. I am looking at senator’s site: it says I can submit an inquiry for a visitor who is abroad having issues with visa delay. Just need to explain we are relatives
  13. I have a close relative who is in 221g for his F1 visa abroad. He is from Russia. Reason for 221g is “sensitive major” - biochemistry. So situation is complicated to say the least and no one knows when this 221g will be finished. I have recently applied for naturalization. Got my green card a few years ago. First, will senator / congressman help if I reach out to them to expedite F1 visa approval for relative who is abroad awaiting F1 visa? Second, what are the risks for myself if I reach out to senator / congressman as I do not want complications with my naturalization process. I am from Russia too.

  15. Hello - I am about to become a US citizen (touch the wood) and am considering applying for GC for my parents in their 70s. Question: will they be able to receive social security benefits and medicare / medicate (i.e. federal health insurance coverage)?
  16. Hi Friends - I am thinking to change my name during naturalization. I am planning to submit N400 soon but debating if it is worth it. I am based in Houston and Houston field office will process N400 and the name change will take place at a judicial location here. Has anyone changed his / her name during naturalization and specifically done it in Houston? I need to know what is the waiting time to get a judicial oath ceremony (required if one wants to change the name) in Houston as understood there can be a delay vs. an administrative oath ceremony conducted by USCIS.
  17. Thank you so much. This is so helpful. @sandranj - are there anything else I should include in the application? Hoping for your advice.
  18. @Stillwinning!!!😊@sandranj - hope for your guidance / expertise; sorry for not tagging you earlier: Dear community - first, this forum is the incredible place for VAWA victims and was paramount for me to obtain my GC as wisdom of you all helped me through that journey. I am right now considering to apply for US citizenship. Has anyone done it i.e. applied / received US citizenship based on VAWA's green card received 3 years prior? I understood that I do not have to wait for 5 years but can apply for US citizenship after 2.75 years (90 days grace period) of being a permanent resident. Please share your experience - how did you fill out N400, what did you note about VAWA, did you provide any supporting documentation that would qualify for apply after ~3 years, did you have any issues down the line etc.? I really hope for your advice and wisdom here...
  19. There seems to be no specific selection for VAWA case to get US citizenship. Has anyone applied for US citizenship based on VAWA's green card?
