  1. It seems then that this is the best option. It was my understanding that name changes in general could delay the process because they do different background checks. But again, I do not know how things work on the Philippines side of it. If I recall correctly, I think I requested my name change on my 485 (I adjusted my status from F1 student visa) and I went to SSA and banks once I received the green card. My 485 took six months. Now when I applied for my citizenship it took longer than most folks from my FO and several attorneys told me it was because of my name change. Who knows.
  2. I have no idea how name change works in the Phillipines, but what I do know is that, for the immigration part of things, it delays the process significantly because they have to do background checks on both names.
  3. Was he married when he applied for the DV? What’s his timeline? Where’s the ex now?
  4. Are you a USC by birth? Have either of you been married before? Whats the age gap?
  5. Please fill in your timeline. Are you a USC? where is the beneficiary from? Were any of you married before?
  6. How did your spouse get his citizenship in the first place?
  7. You also need to send forms I-131 (travel permit) and I-765 (work permit) Way easier and less headachy to get another co-sponsor. It's your call. Would you prefer to have more non- taxable money for once, or would you want a smoother ride for immigration? Use this webpage You can't. The validity of the medical is only for 60 days from the time you do it until you send it. This is not the chance to save time. Your chance to "save time" is to actually file taxes jointly and take a financial hit just once if you have to.
  8. Exactly. It’s almost like the same as if talking to a police officer.
  9. If they fly as cargo, they will be fine too. I brought my dogo from Argentina like that, and trust me, she's full of life now lol
  10. Not quite. The unspoken rule is to answer what they ask. Do not overshare information!
  11. Why are you filing a change of address when you haven't even moved yet? You have 10 days after you move to update the address. You will 100% receive your green card before moving.
  12. No one is saying you shouldn’t come on a J1. What we’re telling you is that you shouldn’t come on that J1 with the intent of adjusting and staying. come with the J1, you can even get married here, go back and apply for a CR1 visa in your home country
  13. Here's a summary of my interview: …. And just like that, I’m one step closer to the end! Interview was today at 8:00 am at the USCIS Columbus Field Office. We went with my husband, but at first the officer only called me in. I had a few corrections/ update to make, so before I was sworn in I let him know of this. He said it was ok, not a problem. So he swore me in, then started with the civics test: - What did MLK junior do? - What are two US national holidays? - two political parties - why did the colonists fight the British? - Name one tribe Forgot the other question. The reading was: who elects Congress? Writing: People elect Congress. Then we went on to the application. I made the changes / updates. For the weapons training question, I marked “yes” because I own a gun, which my husband has been teaching me to use. I explained this, he changed the question to “no” and he added “informal”. After I was done, he called my husband in, asked him when we got married, my full name, my DOB, his marital status. And that was it! He printed off the paper recommending me for approval on the spot. It felt more like a casual conversation, he was professional but friendly. Funny note: he asked me how long 751s are taking because officer’s wife has a pending one! 😂😂😂
  14. We bought an entire copy of everything we’d submitted with the N400+ any new updated evidence, such as bank accounts. The officer didn’t ask for anything
  15. 7 weeks from application, or 7 weeks after you received the passport?
  16. Thank you! No, I didn’t expedite since I have no plans to travel soon. It took me 5 weeks through the post office. I’ll be a little bit antsy until I get my certificate back safe and sound tho.
  17. Just got my passport today. End of journey!
  18. Just got my passport today. End of journey!
  19. You actually do need 2020
  20. Yes, it will be a problem. You won't naturalize and you will get deported. In all seriousness, no. All you need to do is to file your 2023 taxes when you're ready, and bring them for the interview. I was in your exact same situation and I am now a citizen. They didn't even request the taxes at the interview.
  21. Hey, we have a WhatsApp group for Argentinian fillers. Please shoot me a DM with your number if you want me to add you. I promise we stick to immigration only.
  22. You’d think that if there was a way, more people would do it… This wasn’t very well thought of. You’d have gotten a 10 year green card if she had flown into the US after the second wedding anniversary. Therefore, If you wanted a 10 year one, she should have landed after Dec 15th…
  23. Just because the NBC asked for domicile proof from your joint sponsor, it doesn't mean that your spouse will not be required too. Don't try to be smart with it. They are wanting to see her intent to establish domicile there as a proof that you are actually going to reside in the US and are not just wanting to apply for a green card when you don't plan on living here. Here is a list of things that prove intent to live in the US: A job lined up Active US bank accounts Lease/ deed Library/ metro cards ID
  24. A lot of the documents that I submitted for my 751 were new in time, just the same type for AOS. For example, bank statements. Some of those, such as leases, covered the whole marriage, since that's what they are asking in the instructions. If you think that following instructions to the T is fluffing, so be it. I don't think the officers handling my cases saw it that way, since both my AOS and ROC interview were waived.
