  1. Call DoS and see if they will book you in. I have urgent travel for work and my appointment is Monday. I naturalized on the 27th, called the 28th and that's when they booked me for.
  2. I have my urgent passport appointment on Monday. I have to travel for work on Thursday, so hopefully it's finished no later than Wednesday! My Oath ceremony was the 27th. I called to get the appointment on the 28th.
  3. There was one guy on the Canadian forum, Canadian born, Canadian raised, Canadian parents, never been to a MENA country and he was issued the DS-5535 in October 2021 and only received his visa at the end of January this year. He had to file a WoM to get traction on his IR-1 case. Another person on the same forum had parents who applied together, elderly, retired, nothing that should have triggered, interview together and stepdad got his visa but mom was handed the DS-5535. Took good long time to sort it out (over a year, IIRC). This extreme vetting seems to be the popular "thing" for the moment.
  4. You may need to move to Brazil. You are a citizen, but not a resident, so they may or may not honor the change. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/national-visa-center/immigrant-visas-processing-general-faqs.html#:~:text=Contact the potential gaining U.S.,visa fee will be required.

  6. IT's a strange relationship. It's all managed through the GOES portal now, so I don't understand why it's so difficult. When we came through Blaine, the Canadian Enrollment Centers were still closed. We actually went out of our way to stop there to get the profiles updated and the greencards added. Does anyone know if I can stop at the GE place at IAH (despite having NEXUS) and have them verify my US passport? I naturalized last week and will be getting my US passport next week before a business trip to Malaysia.
  7. You CAN update your NEXUS by sending an inquiry through CBP with scans of your letters/ID. The lovely lady at the Blaine, WA Enrollment Center told me this and it was confirmed in an email I received after submitting a CBP inquiry when we updated Kid1's passport. We'd updated the GOES profile, but a human apparently has to verify the information, scanned or not. I used to get flagged all of the time when I was on L1 visa with "see officer". I was told that it was because they had to verify the validity of my employment visa. As stated above, you're still skipping the line and saving valuable time, especially when multiple international flights arrive and there's very few CBP lanes open. FYI: https://help.cbp.gov/s/questions?language=en_US Thank you for contacting the CBP Traveler Communications Center. Updates to your visa(s), citizenship or immigration status, date of birth, gender, or legal name, and the addition of new documents (such as a second passport or new visa) can be completed by our office. Please read the information below carefully and reply to this message with the information requested below. NAME CHANGE: Please reply to this message with a color image of your passport reflecting the name change. CITIZENSHIP OR IMMIGRATION STATUS CHANGE: Please reply to this message with images of your new passport or Permanent Resident Card (I-551). Escalation processing times are currently 3-4 weeks. The Trusted Traveler Programs will only allow you to apply for one membership at a time. The NEXUS program allows pre-screened travelers expedited processing into both the United States and Canada through dedicated processing lanes at designated northern land border ports of entry, at NEXUS kiosks in certain Canadian airports and at Global Entry kiosks at designated airports for entry into the U.S., and at marine reporting locations. Approved applicants are issued a photo-identification, proximity Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) card. NEXUS is the only trusted traveler program that provides US citizens and LPRs expedited entry into Canada. Participation in NEXUS also provides US and Canadian citizens and U.S. LPRs full access to Global Entry Benefits as well as TSA pre check. If you do not see the option to switch programs on your TTP dashboard, you will not be able to switch programs. However, you have the option to request cancellation of your current application, so that you can reapply for your preferred program. Please note that the application fee is non-refundable per the terms and conditions of the program. If you still wish to cancel, please reply to this email. Please continue to log into your TTP account to check the status of your application. The Trusted Traveler Program is a voluntary program that offers expedited customs clearance for those who submit to background investigations. It was promulgated through the rulemaking process and 8 CFR 103.7 stipulates there are no refunds, because fees charged offset the program costs associated with background investigations. These were the terms and conditions that you agreed to prior to payment. Unfortunately, a refund cannot be processed. Thank you again for contacting the CBP Traveler Communications Center.
  8. After you pay the greencard fee, it will arrive. If your paperwork didn't include the SSN or if it takes longer than about 2 weeks, head into your local SSA with your immigration paperwork and have them check if a number was issued and/or issue you a SSN. Make sure you enter before the expiration date of the medical or the visa. Typically, it's 6mo after your medical. Be careful with slingshotting. You're subject (depending on province) to finding yourself without provincial health coverage.
  9. Just go to the SSA and fix it with the name change and your status change. The number will stay the same. https://faq.ssa.gov/en-us/Topic/article/KA-01981 DoS and the SSA are not the same. You just want that visa in hand from DoS so you can get on with life. You can totally manage the SSN once in the US.
  10. Most Latinas on the show are completely nuts. In this instance, I'm having a hard time figuring out which one is more nuts. I think it might actually be the American chick in this instance.
  11. SSA says wait 10 days. I already checked. I had a 10 year GC, and I didn't change my name so it's less of a big deal. I can't wait to do my passport because I have work travel booked already. As it is, my appointment I managed to secure is only 3 days before I travel. My work visa is using my CAD passport, so I guess I'm exiting on my US and entering Malaysia on my Canadian passport. The harder one to update is going to be NEXUS!
  12. Naturalization ceremony complete. Showed up at the Gears Road facility. Security checked that I'd filled out the form sent with my letter. Note to people: if you are signing the document, it states "signed at" and the date. Don't write your home if it's not the same city/town as your ceremony. I live in Spring, TX and the ceremony was in Houston and they made me scratch out Spring, write Houston and sign today's date. We were let inside, went through security like always. Lined up so the people at the check in desk could sign us in and check our interview letter document. Once signed in, we went to go sit in the order, as instructed by the USCIS agent. Once it was time to go in, we were asked to turn phones off. We lined up and went to one of 3 desks. They checked our paperwork again, punched a hole in our green card, handed back the paperwork and green card and told which row to sit in. There were 2 envelopes sitting on each chair. One contained a passport application and the Oath. The other was supposedly from President Biden and contained a booklet on the Declaration of Independence, a mini American flag and a voter registration card. After everyone got checked in, a USCIS officer introduced himself and asked us to stand and raise our right hand. He then read the Oath and at the end of the Oath, we had to say "I do". He congratulated us and then we had to be seated. We then waited to be called back up to the registration tables where we exchanged our interview letter and green card for our naturalization certificate. We went to an additional agent who reviewed the information on the certificate for correctness. Once verified, off we went. Next step: passport.
  13. If you haven't had your interview yet, then it will be fine. If you've had your interview and are recommended for your visa, the Consulate will keep your passport to stick your temporary I-551 in it. If you want to visit for the wedding, go for it. Just bring evidence of ties to Canada to demonstrate you will be returning in the even that you are asked to provide proof of said ties. Employment letter, lease agreement, return ticket, things like that.
  14. I don't blame you. Kid1 has issues with their names being truncated. Their last name is hyphenated, too, but that hyphen isn't typically recognized. Strange that there's not better standards for these things.
  15. Same boat. Work travel booked for May 11. Urgent passport service needed. $60 extra is worth it. I've been trying to teach this course for over a year now and this is the 4th time we've scheduled it, so I really need it to work out!
  16. HR are not known for understanding the rules of the I-9 very well, especially for people with permanent residency or work authorization/visa. Politely show HR the I-9 instructions and follow @Chancy's instructions above. Interestingly, I was time wasting on TikTok yesterday and an employment lawyer video popped up and she quickly spouted off how MANY employers break the law because they forget there are federal laws in place governing what needs to happen and they break them all of the time. She said she'll never be unemployed as a result.
  17. The challenge is the TN is a non-immigrant intent visa and by having your case pending, you've already demonstrated immigrant intent.
  18. I still have my original Montreal consulate flexi folder with everything in it and the additional documents for my N-400. I don't think I'll unload it until after everyone has their US passports and the kids have their N-600's! PTSD with Immi is for real! You'll make it - we had our interview, got approved, sold off extra stuff, packed the house and managed to come through the border during covid when it was closed within 3 weeks, so you'll be ok
  19. Excellent summary. Thank you! Just something to note that isn't applicable to the children for some time, but all USC, regardless of whether they've lived in the US or not, earned US income or not, are responsible for filing US Income Tax. Many kids don't realize this and attempt to petition for a family member as adults and have to make this adjustment before they can proceed.
  20. It's definitely better to be over prepared than under. When you're over, they ask for nothing. When you're under, they ask for everything. I just did my Naturalization interview, took all the paperwork that had been provided when I submitted my petition, as instructed, and the only thing the interviewer asked to see was my passport and DL. Congrats on the approval and good luck with moving and FINALLY being able to begin the next chapter!
  21. It's helpful when you fill out your timeline: https://www.visajourney.com/timeline/profile.php?id=447322 Many consulates were in the process of moving to electronic filed prior to the pandemic and went fully electronic during that time. If you check the visa in your passport, under annotation in the bottom left next to your photo, it will say IV docs in CCD.
  22. I believe so. They will send a SAVE verification and whatever that states is your lawful presence will be the expiration. You'll probably get a 48mo extension letter (that's the new favourite vs 24mo), so 4 years. Pro tip: book an appointment online with DPS. It makes your life much easier than standing in a long line, especially if you're headed into a DPS Supercenter. Texas, being a border state with too many people lacking status - I think they just shut it down the best they can with the available resources. It's a royal pain in the rear, too, because public transit is an anomaly for the most part. You basically need a DL in TX.
  23. Accurate. Montreal is traditionally SLOW. If they received the documents, expect 6-8 weeks, on average, for review. That seems to be their sloth pace of late. Some people have been very lucky and have had reviews much faster, so cross your fingers and hope your case falls into that category!
  24. I guess I don't understand what you're asking. How are you planning to enter? As a visitor or with a visa requiring a secondary inspection?
