Steven and I met when I was 18 on a site called RPVoid, where we were both regulars in the general chatroom. He was making skeleton puns so I threw one back at him and he called me wife material ;P We got along so easily that things just kinda fell into place, it wasn't til we had been talking for almost a full year that we realised we hadn't officially made "us" a thing yet, despite being openly lovestruck with each other for months.
A year and a half after we started talking, we met in person for the first time. He came and spent a year with me and my family in Australia, it was a month before my 20th birthday. Getting him at the airport was the best feeling ever. As soon as I saw him I just ran full sprint at him and smacked right into him, I almost knocked him over. That's been a theme every time we meet up. I found it hard to look him in the eyes at first, I was so used to seeing him through a screen that I never really thought about the fact I had never made direct eye contact with him up until then, but it wasn't too long 'til the nerves wore off and we were staring at each other endlessly.
He ended up really loving my family; I did, and for now still do live with my parents, and every time we video called he'd always half joke that we seemed too nice to be real, but living with us for a year showed him what a loving family could be like. Now he says my mum feels more like a mum to him than his own.
After the year was up, I applied for a B1/B2 visa so I could spend 6 months with him and his family in America. It was my first time ever flying overseas so I was real glad that we could fly together. His hometown was beautiful and in those 6 months I fell in love with it. Back at home I am quite a homebody, I don't go out much and I don't know many interesting things to do in the area where I live, but there in America with him, I had the most fun I had in my life. He took me to so many places and showed me a lot of new experiences. We went to SeaWorld and I rode a proper rollercoaster for the first time, I experienced an American Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. His family is of Spanish descent, so there was a lot of Spanish food I had never tried before.
The day before my 21st birthday we went to Disneyland and he proposed to me. It wasn't how he wanted it to go down, by the time he worked up the courage it was extremely dark and no one was around, but I wouldn't change a thing. LiverLips the bear made a surprise appearance straight after, and we got some pics with him for the occasion lol. At the end of my stay, my mum came to America for the last 10 days so she could accompany me on the flight home. It was her first time in America too.
As of now, I'm now 22 turning 23 in a couple of months. We're approaching our 4 year anniversary and I haven't seen him in almost a year since COVID started, but we're still going strong. We started the visa process back in February and while it's been a long wait, as these things are, I'm very thankful that so far we haven't hit any road bumps and everything has been on time, I can only hope things keep going this way.
I'm so excited to finally start my life with my man.
