Joint Sponsor Needed
Mike E replied to yolanda_p's topic in Adjustment of Status from Work, Student, & Tourist Visas
Does not appear your joint sponsors are eligible. 1. For your own I-864, are you self employed or on a W-2? 2. If you are on a W-2, what number did you list in your current income on your I-864: your income from your 2022 tax return or what you expect to earn in the next 12 months? 3. Does the beneficiary have an EAD? -
Filed I-130 online but no NOA1

Too soon to worry -
When i brought my wife to SSA to update her SS record to show U.S. citizenship, the clerk showed us a print out of the update. She would not authorize a new cars nor would she give my wife a copy of the printout, but she did let her take a photo. The printout is titled: “SSNAP Printout for Replacement [sic] Social Security Number Card” The printout had various biographic data including: “Citizenship: US” So we are satisfied her record was updated, and almost as importantly, we’ve proof the update was attempted.

Travel within the U.S. is different than traveling to the U.S., yet any time one travels to a border state, the answer is nuanced. And New Mexico is special is several ways. When does your authorized stay expire? Any plans to drive on or south of I-10? If so, keep your passport and I-94 on your person. Any time you head north toward I-10, you have a risk of encountering a Border Patrol check point and being questioned. Non citizens are expect to carry proof of authorized presence in this situation. The airline employees should not ask you those questions as New Mexico is part of the U.S. However, not all Americans are aware of this ( https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=12512979 ). Be aware of: Assuming the airline employers know New Mexico is part of the U.S., no. Yes America has internal border controls as anyone driving to California, flying to Hawaii, and flying from the territories knows. And when REAL ID is implemented, they will really know. And yes, airlines flying in the Schengen Area ask different questions of non EU citizens on intra EU flights than EU citizens.

Three killed in Nottingham, UK van attack

Part and parcel of living in a city of 300,000 people (especially one associated with a popular legend) is you’ve got to be prepared for mass van killings. -
No vape sale with foreign license
Mike E replied to Caro1's topic in Moving to the US and Your New Life In America
As a naturalized U.S. citizen, I can assure you, that you will never be a first class person in this country compared to a citizen born here. We are not treated the same. Hopefully there are greater opportunities here for you that make this permanent class division tolerable to you. -
Less than a one percent chance any airline will board you onto a flight to the U.S. CBP regulations prohibit airlines from boarding LPRs whose 2 year green cards and extension letters have expired. You should have got an I-551 stamp on your passport before leaving. Once you arrive at a U.S. port of entry on U.S. soil, legally CBP must admit you into the U.S. So now your options are: * get to a U.S. port of entry. So you need a visa to travel to Mexico or Canada, and from there walk into the U.S. * File I-131a to get a boarding foil from the U.S. embassy. The embassy might take a dim view of your late I-751 filing and determine you are not eligible. * Use this process to have an I-551 mailed to your U.S. address ( https://www.uscis.gov/newsroom/alerts/uscis-announces-additional-mail-delivery-process-for-receiving-adit-stamp ). However if USCIS wants you to have biometrics, this will not work. I have never heard of a conditional LPR in your situation getting back to the U.S. Hopefully you can be the exception. How long have you been outside the U.S.?

I complete agree. The above was the situation Midge thought she was in when she married Joel and permitted him to impregnate her. Joel was a child, and she chose poorly. It is not unheard of for people to love their abusers. The Joel I watched in season 1 was a wife abusing, lying, lazy loser. The Midge in the pilot was a sweet and adorable, mom, wife, and daughter. She was damaged by Joel, and her father and father in law delivered the coup de grace to her soul. Back at ya. It appears your husband and you figured Midge should have married another man child, made two more babies, and then watched while he got his head nurse knocked up. And then repeated the cycle with a third man child. Maybe a lawyer or stock broker. In her late 30s or early 40s? Women that old were considered washed up in the 1960s. Ethan and Esther would be in worse state if Midge followed your advice. Midge did have a character flaw: she was was blind to character flaws in others. She could not see that Joel was a dud before marrying him. She thought her father was a super hero. She thought her father in law had her back or at least that of his grand children. She was blind to Suzy stealing from her. In the flash forwards we learn that she married countless losers and divorced them. But by that time she married them with sizable wealth in her own right, no doubt with prenups. I think you night have to have been born in North America in the 1960s or before to fully understand the TV series.

Extension letter CR1 travel
Mike E replied to jadmac's topic in Working & Traveling During US Immigration
Personally, because the extension letter would be likely to arrive while you are on vacation, I would not want to be be away from my mail box. The extension letter becomes a priceless possession after November 16. There is literally no amount of money you can spend to replace it. Every time USPS informed delivery has told me mail from USPS was coming and it failed to arrive, I immediately went to my post office to track down. An extension letter is a hassle but life without it is unbearable. yes you can. The extension letter is not needed until the physical card expires. first class mail 2 weeks or less most of the time. -
Questions on Entering the US w/ my fiance
Mike E replied to CaptainM's topic in Moving to the US and Your New Life In America
The airport workers directing you to U.S. citizen line are not CBP officers. The citizen line is for citizens. Your fiancee is not a citizen. Consider why there is a citizen line: * it is a benefit to U.S. citizens * processing is faster, because with few exceptions every citizen in that line has a U.S. passport and with few exceptions, U.S. citizens will not have their biometrics taken in that line. * the CBP officer for that line might not be trained or set up to process non citizens As I type this, the front page of VJ has a link to a post where the airport worker directing that OP to citizen line was screamed at by the CBP officer. -
No vape sale with foreign license
Mike E replied to Caro1's topic in Moving to the US and Your New Life In America
Vape shops, like tobacco and liquor shops, are not required to sell product to people over age 21z Vaping, like smoking, and drinking are not legally protected acts because vapers, like smokers and drinkers are not a protected group. Green card holders are eligible for state ID in every state, territory, and district in the Union, and in most of those, eligible for REAL ID. One of these things is not like other. There are specific laws that mandate that jobs cannot be denied to foreigners that present correct I-9 documents. There are no such lass that require travel and banking services to be provided. For travel, CBP has a specific document that tells carriers what documents it may accept from foreign (and American) travelers. For banking, the PATRIOT and Know Your Customer laws give banks not just discretion to deny services to foreign customers, but in some cases mandates denial of service. In this context, there are no rights to vape, travel services, and banking services In OP’s case the vendor does not know what to do with the ID OP presented. Fortunately, OP has countless choices of places to buy vape products. OP also has free agency to go to an SSA office to get an SSN, and then go to a state motor vehicles department store and get s state ID. Even if there was a legally protected right to vape, until the penalty for denial of vape products exceeds the penalty for sale of vape products, denial of vape products is should be expected by people present anything besides the state ID / DL of the state where the vape shop is provided. Here is one state government’s view on acceptable forms of ID: https://www.abc.ca.gov/education/licensee-education/checking-identification/ Examples of Identification that are not bona fide U.S. Government Immigrant identification card Is that clear enough? Green cards are not bona fide ID to sell alcohol in California. It goes on to say A business may have a company policy that is stricter than the law; e.g., “Only California driver licenses/identifications are accepted” or “anyone purchasing alcoholic beverages MUST present an identification, regardless of age.” OP was not discriminated against because OP did not provide ID that acceptable to the intersection of state and store policy. -
No vape sale with foreign license
Mike E replied to Caro1's topic in Moving to the US and Your New Life In America
It is. There is no safe harbor for for vendors who sell products forbidden to those under 21. This means even if the customer presents valid ID, if the customer is under 21, vendors can lose their license. -
You expect her to over look what he did? Besides which he was useless. She had relied on three men in her life to date, and all 3 had left her holding the bag. This doctor guy was going to support her, her kids, her parents, and their housekeeper? Midge could count on that? And what happens when he divorces her too? Alimony laws in the 1960s were not as generous to women as they were today. Besides which, the guy would have wanted her to make mire babies. Her path was the least evil one she had ahead of her. They were alive, not starving, and high functioning. Esther was a “brilliant scientist”. Ethan was studying to be a rabbi.

Questions on Entering the US w/ my fiance
Mike E replied to CaptainM's topic in Moving to the US and Your New Life In America
Go with her in the visitor line. You are in the same household how. -
spoiler alerts for those who have not seen the show. ”Chose”? What show were you watching? Midge never wanted to “have it all”. In the pilot she thrived being a SAHM who doted on her kids, parents, husband, temple, community. In her mind she had the perfect life. But it was an illusion. Dad abandoned the family for an office girl. Grandpa had late life crises and blew two superb jobs (professor and private sector researcher) to be a theater critic and had not a pot to urinate in. He was in debt to the hilt and lost his home. Grandma was rich as Crassus, and was a narcissist who pretended to be poor and bled her daughter dry. Dad was a ne’er do well: failed comic, failed bar owner, ex-con Ex-father-in-law cut mom off: her ex did not own his home. Mom had no choice but to work, supporting 5 people including her self. 6 including her manager who stole from her. 7 including the house keeper her parents could not do without. Being a shop girl or a switch board operator was not going to cut it. Her kids went on to amazing child hoods by the end of elementary school.

Providing evidence after submission
Mike E replied to Petersaad1's topic in IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures
Money transfers from * beneficiary to petitioner can be perceived as the basis for fraudulent marriage * petitioner to beneficiary can be perceived as the basis for the latter exploiting the former and I and others recommend against showing this evidence. -
Self-employed sponsors are a challenge to get approved. It requires a deep understanding of I-864 and its instructions. You can try to get some good hits via: Self employed sponsor site:visajourney.com at a web search engine Because it is a burden on your mother. For her, this is the worst case scenario: https://media.ca11.uscourts.gov/opinions/pub/files/201914668.pdf
