  1. Turbotax, freetaxusa, taxact,… If the concern is declaring your Canadian income, declare it, and then claim the foreign income tax credit. Presumably you got a T-4 from your Canadian employer, and paid Canadian taxes in 2022 on your earned income. The result is that you will pay the higher of the two tax rates on your Canadian income: CRA vs IRS. Surely CRA is higher. Even if not, a joint tax return with your spouse will reduce the overall tax burden on your family and more than make up for it. This way your naturalization process is smoother and you won’t be among the thousands posting 3-5 years from now: “N-400 asked me if I have ever failed to file a tax return; what do I do?” If at any time in 2022 you had foreign bank or brokerage holdings exceeding $10,000 USD, you must also file FBAR
  2. LPRs should always file IRS tax returns. I do not see why you need an accontant.
  3. Abbreviate that name so that all interior vowels are removed. E.g. Sesto San Giovanni becomes Ssto Sn Gvnni San Giovanni Rotondo becomes Sn Gvnni Rtndo
  4. USCIS has decided to require the covid vaccination: https://www.uscis.gov/tools/designated-civil-surgeons/vaccination-requirements Under the immigration laws of the United States, a noncitizen who applies for an immigrant visa abroad, or who seeks to adjust status to that of a lawful permanent resident while in the United States, is required to receive vaccinations to prevent the following diseases: Mumps; Measles; Rubella; Polio; Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoids; Pertussis; Haemophilus influenzae type B; Hepatitis B; COVID-19; and Any other vaccine-preventable diseases recommended by the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP). https://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/panel-physicians/covid-19-technical-instructions.html The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and its Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) have recommended COVID-19 vaccination for the age-appropriate, general US population. Therefore, COVID-19 vaccination now meets the criteria for required vaccinations and is a requirement for applicants.
  5. Some states will recognize your foreign marriage certificate as lawful change of name document. Some, reported to include Colorado, will not, but offer a work around in the form of a re-marriage license, service, and certificate. Changing name by naturalization can be difficult. The core problem is that in the U.S. only a judge can administer oaths of citizenship that include a change name. There are on the order of 1000 federal judges, and one million people naturalizing each year. Depending on the field office that can mean a longer wait. Some field offices will all but flat out refuse a change of name. Even if you get a change of name oath, the actual change of name document is not the naturalization document as you might expect. When it does not show up, there can be a finger pointing exercise between the court and USCIS.
  6. I-751 does not have to be approved before: * you file N-400 * you have your N-400 interview I-751 must be approved before you will take oath of citizenship
  7. 1. Card expiry 2. does not matter. Note Canadians renew passports by mail by sending renewal forms to Gatineau. Passport renewals at canadian consulates in the U.S. stopped in the 1990s 3. Today i-751 filers get a 48 month extension letter. 4. Yes if your spouse has been a U.S. citizen for 3 years when you file 5. USCIS will send mail to the address you list on your I-751
  8. No that’s not how SS works. SS is funded by inflows from SS taxes. When inflows exceed outflows, SS invests the surplus into the SS trust fund. When outflows exceed inflows, the trust fund is drawn down. What is true is that in 10 years or so, the trust fund will be gone. After that, benefits will still be paid but if inflows exceed the entitled benefits, the benefits will be reduced. As long as there are tax paying workers, the system will pay benefits. per your link: https://www.ssa.gov/OACT/TRSUM/index.html “The Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) Trust Fund, which pays retirement and survivors benefits, will be able to pay scheduled benefits on a timely basis until 2034, one year later than reported last year. At that time, the fund's reserves will become depleted and continuing tax income will be sufficient to pay 77 percent of scheduled benefits.”
  9. Is that because OP is not a citizen or LPR? Or is that because of some other reason? If so, https://www.ssa.gov/oact/quickcalc/spouse.html disagrees
  10. Fta: “The combination of a balance sheet heavy with securities and relatively light on loans, in a rising-rate environment in which bond prices have declined and in which depositors specific to that industry are themselves suffering from a decline in cash, led to a liquidity problem.” OMG why why would a bank be permitted to invest in stocks?
  11. I’ve seen one report on Reddit r/personalfinance of this happening. I don’t think it was just big firms. It seems silicon valley startups routinely used SVB. My wife is an Etsy seller and she says some sellers didn’t get their periodic payouts because Etsy puts pending payouts in an SVB bank account My wife wasn’t affected; her last sale was over a week ago abd she was paid. I suppose she will pause her listings. If enough sellers do this, Etsy will be in trouble: it’s effectively the same as a run on bank. If Biden doesn’t have a plan in place by Sunday night, I think the stock markets will be Armageddon on Monday.
  12. My understanding is that you enter what is in the joint tax return, and then if you are qualifying using just your individual income, include all W-2s and 1099s for both filers.
  13. i think most people with misplaced green cards are they are those who don’t carry them in the wallets of their owners. Never misplaced by gc, or DL. Haven’t misplaced my passport card either. I don’t misplace credit cards or cash either Whereas i hunted for days to find my paper I-94 when i adjusted status from an F-1 status. Ended up dropping it of at my lawyer’s residence the night before the interview. I now ha Twice in one week for me; staying in El Paso. Border patrol operates north of El Paso. Fairly routine if you live near the border. Would hate to be detained by BP in 120 degree temperatures while they verify my status. Or have BP impound my vehicle which has happened in my neighborhood So my passport card stays with me. And if my house burns down with my passport and nc with it, I have evidence of authorized presence. https://www.npr.org/2019/02/15/695184555/americans-who-were-detained-after-speaking-spanish-in-montana-sue-u-s-border-pat#:~:text=Two women who were detained, asked to see their identification. I wish USCIS still issued wallet sized evidence of citizenship. Shame on state DMVs who don’t issue EDLs
  14. Oops didn't see that I was quoted in another comment. I've no idea what Congress intended by "or thereafter". Citizenship through adoption prior to CCA 2000 was a cluster and so not knowing more details, I think the fact you were adopted can make a big difference. What year were you adopted and what year did did you * enter the U.S. on your immigration visa or * have your I-485 approved ? Citizenship through adoption became a mega cluster in 1995, and thank goodness CCA 2000 cleaned it up. But not for the adoptees who were born before 1983. They are going through hell, and if you were one of ones whose parents or lawyer knew about the Immigration and Nationality Technical Corrections Act of 1994, count yourself lucky. It's on my to do list to watch https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Bayou_(film) It's academic for OP's case, because contrary to the earlier assertion, the order of naturalization of parent vs greening of the child is now swapped. So I'm in violent agreement with you that OP is a U.S. citizen. Proving it is now the hard part. I am convinced it should be illegal for parents with alien children under age 18 to naturalize without legal counsel appointed to represent the children. Thousands of adults today are too much of a citizen to file N-400 and too little to file N-600. And the U.S. passport agency jerks them around too.
  15. 1993 or 1983? Because I did write: Well lesson learned for me. Now there is lots of confusion. He's a U.S. citizen. Of course his mother's death certificate is needed. I am out.
  16. Item 29: 1 Part 5, Item 1 (you): 1 Part 5, Item 2 (spouse): 1 Part 5, Item 8: Total: 3
  17. Interesting. On my mac (Ventura 13.2.1) none of Safari, Preview, nor Chrome will auto populate or auto calculate No idea if the free acrobat will work. Good thing Preview provides a free work around: text fields
  18. Awesome Every such I-864 problem I have seen with it calculating the household size has been a user error
  19. The Donkey Show is the longest running off broadway show, dating from November 22, 1963.
  20. I don’t see USCIS providing an adit stamp unless you put skin in the game. Since the end goal is to become a citizen, file N-400 with what you have, and see if you can get an adit stamp Absolutely
