https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/financial-evidence-assistant.html.html There are two problems: First: SS quarters are not a thing any more. Read on, Second, there was another thread -- which I cannot find -- where we discussed the same problem. And the problem is that a Social Security Administration (SSA) Earnings Statement does not exist at ssa.gov . This my SSA account page today: Welcome, Michael! You last signed in on March 18, 2023 at 2:44 PM ET. Your Social Security Statement You can download your statement as a PDF or XML file. Replace your Social Security Card Your Benefit Verification Letter Your letter proving you receive or do not receive Social Security Benefits. Eligibility and Earnings You have the 40 work credits you need to receive benefits! This includes credits not yet reported on your earnings record from last year and this year if you continued to work. You earned $0 in 2022. Is this correct? Review your full earnings record now There is a Social Security Statement. When I click on mine, near the top of first page, left column I have: Retirement Benefits You have earned enough credits to qualify for retirement benefits. To qualify for benefits, you earn credits through your work - up to four each year. Your full retirement age is 67, based on your date of birth: MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM DD, YYYY. As shown in the chart, you can start your benefits at any time between ages 62 and 70. For each month you wait to start your benefits, your monthly benefit will be higher—for the rest of your life. These personalized estimates are based on your earnings to date and assume you continue to earn $XXXXXXXXXXXXXX per year until you start your benefits. Learn more at ssa.gov/benefits/retirement/learn.html . There is an Earnings Record on page 2, but mine just shows my total earnings decade by decade and then year by year. One cannot expect an NVC worker to know how many credits one earned for X dollars in decades or years ago. I mean, I saw a question here this month from a U.S. citizen asking me: "What is a social security credit?" The aforementioned Review your full earnings record now link for me also doesn't list my credits. The other problem is that https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/i-864winstr.pdf says: The form is using an archaic term. Back in the old days, if you earned $1M in one single day and did not work the other 364 days, you got exactly 1 SS quarter. That was not fair to seasonal workers. So it was changed to credits. But USCIS is not using that term. So by letter of USCIS instructions, nobody with 40 SSA credits can file I-864W. However, https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/i-864w.pdf says: In addition to what you have submitted, I would submit the screenshot of the SSA page that says the beneficiary has earned 40 credits and the full earnings record. Also submit something from SSA that says quarters are not a thing. https://www.ssa.gov/oact/cola/QC.html https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/ssact/title02/0213.htm

This seems be a perennial problem at NVC. This VJ member over came NVC’s cluelessness Unfortunately the attachments are gone. Later in the thread the OP reported success:

I-751 Appeal/Motion was dismissed

You have done all you reasonably can do for now. If you are really worried check this website each day: https://acis.eoir.justice.gov/en/ -
Should I apply for a Reentry permit now?
Mike E replied to kpelo's topic in Working & Traveling During US Immigration
Yes. But you are 2 years beyond RoC I-131 is unlikely to be adjudicated in time for your studies. Return to the U.S. every 179 days or less. -
And i am out. OP: your plans are going to get you a 5 year ban.

That does not answer the question. Imagine I am a typical consular officer interviewing you for your visa, or a CBP officer at the port of entry. What answer would you give either?

Should I apply for a Reentry permit now?
Mike E replied to kpelo's topic in Working & Traveling During US Immigration
According to https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/i-131instr.pdf “2) A Reentry Permit issued to a conditional permanent resident is valid for 2 years from the date of issuance, or to the date the conditional permanent resident must apply for removal of the conditions on his or her status, whichever date comes first.” “2 years from the date of issuance, or to the date the conditional permanent resident must apply for removal of the conditions” 2018 + 2 = 2020 the year you needed to apply for RoC. 2020 + 2 = 2022 which is 2 years after when you needed to file RoC. So per the instructions, a re-entry permit will not work. -
It depends on why you applied for a B-2.

Then she should go. I have read fewer than 5 second hand claims that even after Arrabally (https://www.justice.gov/sites/default/files/eoir/legacy/2014/07/25/3748 (final).pdf - USCIS issued AP to I-485 applicant and then denied I-485, because of a trip after over stay, and the court said USCIS was wrong), that some CBP officers still illegally deny entry to the U.S. to people in your situation. But I have read 10-100 times as many more first hand claims of successful entry to AP holders who over stayed before filing I-485.

How to avoid GC to be considered abandoned?
Mike E replied to Ranava14's topic in Military Immigration-Related Discussion
Yes that can be problem. The permit can ultimately be denied. -
Some DIYers and lawyers prefer to do the standalone I-130. One reason might be that the standalone I-130 can specify consular processing thus preserving options in the case the beneficiary needs to leave the U.S. Whereas if I-130 specifies that the beneficiary will file I-485, to switch to consular requires paying a fee for I-824 and waiting more years. In addition beneficiaries who arrive on a visa waiver cannot adjust status if the petitioner is an LPR. It is complex and it will get worse

How long does it take to receive SSN card after GC?
Mike E replied to EDDIE95's topic in Social Security Numbers
They come separately if they come at all. Be proactive: go to SSA and get an SSN. -
Citizens and nationals (basically, American Samoans) can get U.S. passports but nationals are not citizens. But I think you meant to ask: “What’s the difference between certificates citizenship and naturalization?” Glossing over details … Naturalization is a process an adult goes through to become a citizenship. Once complete they get a certificate of naturalization. Usually they are LPRs first. Form is N-400 A certificate of citizenship is issued to people who became citizens as children: * they were born outside the U.S. and became citizens at birth because their parent(s) were U.S. citizens and had enough physical presence to convey citizenship to their child. Usually these children get a crba. N-600 is filed when they do not get a crba. * they were born outside the U.S. (or born inside the US to foreign diplomats). Before they reached age 18, two things happened: they became LPRs and a parent was a citizen (either at birth or later) . N-600. * they were born outside the U.S. and before they reached age 18, three things happened: a parent was U.S citizen, the parent or parent’s US citizen parent had enough physical presence, and they took oath of citizenship in the U.S. N-600K.

After that the status stayed as: "In Process". And continued to do so. I checked every morning. Including yesterday. I should check more often, because USPS texted me 10 minutes that there was a package in our mail box. I thought it was an online order from one of VisaJourney's valued advertisers that my wife has become addicted too. As of now the status says: So 32 days from passport application to delivery. Again, we ordered expedited shipping. I am confused by: We sent your passport book and card to you using Priority Mail. and Your new passport book, passport card, and your citizenship evidence are sent separately to you. You should expect three mailings: one with your new passport book, one with your new passport card, and one with your returned citizenship evidence. USPS Informed Delivery does not show another priority mail package on its way to U.S. So why we got the passport 23 hours after it was shipped: Apparently passport books for our neck of woods (metro Tucson) are produced in Tucson: the first record of tracking history is: We relocated to Tucson in part because of its reputation for fast N-400. Fast passports was a bonus I was not aware of. Will follow up when we get the passport card and when we get the citizenship evidence. Tomorrow we go to SSA. I will try online first, and report anything interesting in the appropriate forum.

No issues. In 2024 when you file taxes, * file your 2023 CRA return as you would normally. * File your 2023 IRS return. Declare all of your worldwide income for 2023. Then declare all foreign income tax paid in 2023. Each $USD of foreign income tax you paid in 2023 will reduce your IRS tax liability by one $USD. Modern tax software handles this well. The burden placed on U.S. citizens and LPRs to declare world wide income is mostly busy work, except for people who live in regimes with lower taxes than the U.S. (and there is some mitigation there for most people in that situation, which we do not need to discuss). Rarely will CRA tax less than the IRS, so not an issue for you.
