....As far as money goes, the vast majority of Filipinos live "day-to-day" and really have no "experience" with having any money to speak of. As a result, the vast majority of Filipinos, appear to most Americans to have a "teenagers mentality" when it comes to money. The exceptions are the "upper class" 5-10% who are successful and very "TIGHT" with money (Chinese Filipinos, Ilocanos, etc.).
This appears to be very true in our case .. My fiancee tells me I am like her mother " KURIPOT " I send her money and its all gone in a couple of days and she can't tell me where it all went. It is sometimes a very frustrating issue for me that an otherwise intelligent and responsible person can't cope with something us americans learn about the time we have lunch money on a regular schedule.
Chances are that it went to "the family" since the "family" remains the most important "institution" to a Filipina. And since she is marrying or married to a Foreigner then demands will be made on her and "pressure" applied. If this is the case (likely) then it will not end when she comes to the U.S.
My current wife (2nd Filipina) is an orphan so all those "problems" have disappeared.

What are the procedures when passing through Immigration immediately after arrival at the Port of Entry (in this case Los Angeles International Airport - LAX and CR-1 Visa).

For me it is trying to understand what she really means when she says things like 'ok then don't' or 'its up to you'. Other than that things are really good. She doesn't have a good concept of savings but we are working on that. She sure loves to spend every dime she makes
After 20 years of experience and 5 years of living in the P.I. I can tell you that Filipinos are "non-confrontational" to the point of telling "what they think you want to hear".

After living in the P.I. for almost 5 years (retired) I would say that any "business venture" is "risky business" indeed.
There are ways to do it, but it involves setting up an "offshore" account and forming a "corporation" in some place like Belize - but that alone will set you back about 10 to 20 grand.

Quite the opposite in my case they "held back" the I-129F for quite some time and let the I-130 proceed thus "giving precedence" to it. Finally the approved I-129F was forwarded to the Embassy, however, the interview date was about 2 months after the I-130 interview thus making the I-129F basically useless.
-
How is the "Green Card" delivered? Is it mailed as regular mail or certified mail or registered mail and does the recipient have to be at home to receive it?
Thanks

Went to the U.S. Embassy (outreach) in Baguio today and talked to the IV Section. I-130 was submitted in late October '06 and I just got an e-mail that NVC will be finished with the process in two weeks. I asked the Embassy official how long before the interview and she said probably June. That means 8 month from USCIS I-130 to the Embassy interview.
Thank you James' for your shortcuts.

Although not popular in the U.S., Mitsubishi makes some very good vehicles that are very popular everywhere else except the U.S. primarily because they were late coming into the U.S. market following: Toyota, Datsun (Nissan), Subaru, and Honda (who had made motorcycles only up until that time), Mazda, Isuzu, etc.

you gotta bad starter solenoid...if its separate from the starter drive...cheap and easy to replace. If its part of the starter drive, probably cheaper to buy a rebuilt starter. After all, its a FORD and thats the WAY IT IS.
When the solenoid engages the starter gear (Bendix) into the flywheel (ring gear) all the current comes directly to the starter motor from the battery through the solenoid. If the solenoid is bad it can get stuck and will not disengage from the flywheel even when the car starts. Similarly, if the solenoid is bad sometimes it will NOT even engage the flywheel.
All parts should be replaced at the same time: Starter, Solenoid & Relay.

It never hurts to download and fill out forms. Sooner or later you will need the documents required for immigration and it is a good idea to begin collecting and organizing your documents. Just a thought.
How do I know if I need both I-134 / I-864 forms? Do they send the I-864 in the packet or something? I already did the I-134, but I read that the US consulate in Australia will require both forms HEREShould I have both forms and all supporting documents ready for him early or should I wait for the packet first? I already did the I-134 and I already have all the paperwork neccessary, but I wanted to check and see how this part works and if I can better prepare. Will he need that for the interview? I thought that he was supposed to do the I-864 when he actually comes to America.... Gah do I think too much?

Why not look into using James' shortcuts?
There are two posts pinned at the top of the NVC forum, read them.

The USCIS and NVC use POST OFFICE BOXES - these are part of the Federal Government United States Postal Service. FedEx, UPS, LBC, etc. are not part of the US Federal Government and CANNOT deliver to Post Office Boxes.
Most forms of U.S. Mail can be tracked with "Delivery Confirmation" and with a "Return Receipt" attached to the item.
Outside the U.S. EMS is equivalent to USPS Global Express and cost about $18. Global Express to foreign countries - EMS back to the U.S. These can be tracked using the USPS Track & Confirm website.

so I don't know what your waffling rant about States Rights was all about.
The concept of "States Rights" is designed into the Constitution and discussed at length in the Federalist Papers.
Unless the constitution is completely abandoned and a Soviet style "Super State" style Federal Government is established which controls all aspects of the United States, the States do have "rights" although they have been trampled upon by the Federal Bureaucracy.
Clinton's "Ending Welfare as we know it" was successful because individual states were given "waivers" by the Federal Government in order to try DIFFERENT approaches to ending the "cycle of dependency" created by the "Great (welfare) Society". Using the individual States to "test" potential Federal programs PRIOR to full-scale implementation just makes common sense. Also, what works in one region of the U.S. may not work as well in another region. The "Great Society" of LBJ and other "well meaning" Liberal Programs have upset the balance of power between the individual States and the Federal Government. "One size" does not "fit all".
But then again, you might not understand my "rant".

It kind of depends on whether you prefer the CR-1 or the K-3. When the bills come for the CR-1 - the AoS bill and the IV bill - then just don't pay them and everything will just "stand still" in regards to the I-130/CR-1.
The I-129F/K-3 will just keep "moving ahead".
Hello, my understanding is that once I-130 is approved, we have to pay a fee for affidavid of support and DS230.If we go through with an interview at the embassy, is there additional fee at that time as well?
If we don't submit those forms/fees and give up on CR and enter on K-3, do we have to pay these fees anyway when we do AOS later?
If we pay the affidavid of support fee and DS230 but take the K3 and don't go through on CR, then do we pay less fees when we do AOS (so the overall fee paid for permanent residency would be the same whether we go through the consulate or AOS)?
I would be annoyed if they take these fees but won't credit us with them if we decide to do AOS later...
Thanks!

The UK is more privatized than the US, that's for sure and about the only thing cheaper here is healthcare, and that's one of the only things still owned by the public.
I would hardly consider such a small country like the U.K., which is smaller than many of the States in the U.S., a good example to use. Massive Federal Intervention (and favoritism toward the "legal profession") by the U.S. congress rather than State implementation is responsible for increased prices across the board. This violates "States Rights" and creates a one-size-fits-all type of system which is not even given sufficient testing before massive implementation. So you have these "Entitlement" programs and massive "Welfare" programs started in the '60's which are essentially driving up costs because of poor planning by "well meaning" Liberal politicians.
So much for the "Great Society".
Kind of reminds me of the "Great" Soviet Society .... LOL

Over regulation causes prices to go up not down. That is why my healthcare costs in the Philippines are 10% of what they would be in the U.S. - frivolous lawsuits and excessive regulation only increase prices. Why am I not surprised since the Democrats controlled congress for over 40 years and most in congress are lawyers ($$$contributions$$$). By the way, why wasn't this Drug Program included in the original Medicare "Entitlement" in the mid-sixties under Lyndon Johnson..... hmmmmmmmm???
Has government intervention (interference) ever caused prices to go down? They tried price controls during the Nixon Administration and they didn't work.
"WASHINGTON - The Senate blocked legislation on Wednesday that would let the government negotiate Medicare drug prices. Democrats couldn't muster the 60 votes needed to bring the bill up for a vote.Under the Medicare drug benefit, private insurance plans negotiate with drug makers over the price of medicine for their customers. About 22 million seniors and the disabled are enrolled in such plans. Some lawmakers, mostly Democrats, contend the government could use its leverage to drive a better bargain than individual insurers, which would lower the cost of the program for taxpayers and seniors. "

The man is a desperate man that wants companionship. He doesn't trust that girl at all, but he is foolish enough to think he can control her. Things and methods he talked of regarding controling, scare me. He believes she is a lesbian, just like my wife. In fact told me that while he was in the Philippines with his wife, they lived with my wife. According to him my wife was living with her lover (his wife) daily when I wasn't there. He is foolish enough in my opinion that he will believe her. The man is 67 and the girl is 20! Gimme a break! The motives for her to come to the USA are clear. BTW, this man just seperated from his last Filipina wife about 9 months ago. She lived with him eight years and left him for another man. She was 38 years younger than him.
You know, I just don't understand why these old guys don't just move to the Philippines - they would have more young "companionship" than they ever dreamed was possible (except for Hugh Hefner) in Angeles City or Subic Bay.
The idea of "controlling" a lesbian is just insane and will end up getting him in deep trouble.

Hey Guys quick question about the airport fees and the Philippine traveler tax. I am correct that this tax was 1650? Airports fees are the same? She has a flight from CDO to Manila, then Manila to Tokyo. Does Tokyo ask for any airport fees or taxes?
Thanks Victor
The Travel Tax is imposed on Filipino citizens, LPR's (and Tourists who have been in the P.I. for over a year) in order to leave the Philippines - (think it as a kind of tax to "allow you" to depart the P.I.).
Departure fees are charged for all travelers at all departures at all airports in the Philippines (as far as I know) - International Flights are higher than domestic flights.

There are a lot of nice hotels in that area so it shouldn't be a problem finding a room.
If you are ever running late you should just give them a phone call.
Any good hotels that you can recomend guys near the embassy? When we had our medical we had our reservation in City Garden but we missed the check in time and they cancelled our reservation =( I was so upset cuz the medical was so long and we end up looking for a place to spend the night after a long exhaustin day, wanna make sure it wont happen again to us.Thanks in advance.

beameup quote: "when it comes to resizing the I-864 coversheet with Word for Windows just make sure that you add the step to resizing to "100%" after "unchecking" the "lock aspect ratio". Otherwise, the end result will not look like what the NVC produces. But even if you don't, they will still accept it at NVC.
Thanksboth of you.
I am sure about the Barcode that it is correct. I matched it with the one i got along with previous latter I received
. I can see the thickness of lines, group of lines etc. it is the same.....
As I asked earlier, can I resize the picture of barcode...?
I see the same barcode but of smalller saize on the letter itself..
My concern was... may be there scanner wont understand the code..if I resize it..
any way, just having a wait from NVC, I did some stupid testing ..taking the barcode to store and tried if it reads it.
I found that it reads only if it is already in system...
Also I clipped a small piece of barcode from previous origional letter from NVC and tried pasting it with glue
right below the Barcode I generated.
THanks for suggestions, I know i may take one week more if I wait for origional Barcode sheet.
but just was curious to find what is this code anyway and how it works.....
I dont think it barcode sheet is an integral part of your case package...
it is just for them to easily enter your case # correctly...is n't it..
what if we don't provide Barcode sheet ...are they gonna deny your case????
Thanks all of guys..for help
Raja
Barcodes are barcodes, regardless of their size. As long as the aspect ratio (height to width) has remained more or less the same and you don't make it too small overall, it should still be capable of being scanned. The question is, why do you want to resize the barcode? If you follow the instructions in the shortcuts, it comes out perfectly.
The barcode is an integral part of your submissions in that it contains the case number. If you write it in, you are probably asking for a delay.

in Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion

Well, my wife of one year arrived in the U.S. in June this year and we almost immediately started having marital problems. We had lived together for over three years prior to me returning to the U.S. and then petitioning for her. Anyway, I had sent her through basic nursing school and we had discussed her coming to the U.S. to go to work. She has been acting very strange, not communicating with me but communicating very well indeed with some of her countrymen/relatives. What am I to do? The tension just gets worse with every day and I am contemplating applying for a divorce. What are my "obligations" since she has only been in the U.S. for a few months on a 2 year Conditional Residence "Green Card".
