The reason you can't get a firm answer is because many things can change the expiry date. It should be 6 months from the medical. But it is not unheard of it being much less than that.
It says that while it is being processed. They all go through a period of processing, if they did not ask you to send anything in or ask you to fill out the DS-5535 it should not take long at all.
~~Thread locked to further replies. The OP posted an update above about getting the passport. As this thread is now derailing and no longer needed to the OP it is locked to further replies.~~
When you were turned around. Those notes are in the system and will be for a very long time. It is recorded that you withdrew your request to enter. That is a sign that they did not believe you were just a tourist.
Please click the reply button in blue to the right side of this post. Right now you are hitting the report button which works for me as I am a Moderator but when others come to help they will not be able to see your comments. Your thread is now in the best place for answers and help. Just be patient.
~~Thread moved to AOS from Work, Student and Tourist Visas, from IR1/CR1 P&P- the OP has confirm that this is an AOS case.~~
Edit to add the OP is in the US entered with a Student visa
