  1. On my parent's immigrant visas it says "UPON ENDORSEMENT SERVES AS TEMPORARY I-551 EVIDENCING PERMANENT RESIDENCE FOR 1 YEAR". They arrived and got their visa stamped with the customs and border control entry stamp that says they arrived on 4Aug, Class IR5 and the "Until" line is blank. Since I-551 refers to the green card, does this stamp count as "endorsement" and if so does it mean they can travel back and forth to the US now as permanent residents before they receive their green cards?
  2. My parents are arriving with their immigrant visas this week and on the "USCIS Immigrant Fee payment receipt" receipt it says: We created USCIS accounts using the link above but we couldn't figure out a way to verify the mailing address. The verify identity link loops back to the login page and for the "Add a case to your account" link we have the IOE number and A# but we don't have an online access code (OAC). Will it be possible to verify the mailing address for their green cards when my parents go through immigration at the airport or is there another way?
  3. I entered my mom's birthday for my dad on our i-130 and was able to correct it -- I documented how I solved it here You can correct typographical errors on your own at https://egov.uscis.gov/e-request/displayTypoForm.do?entryPoint=init&sroPageType=typoError I hope that helps! It's a small hassle but it will be ok -- we didn't have to to a RFE
  4. Haha I expecting this question to have a simple answer. Since I'm not 100% sure what the correct answer is I'll ask my parents to ask which line to get on or if they feel more comfortable to just go to the visitors line at the SFO airport. In case it helps, it says at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-10-prepare-for-the-interview/step-12-after-the-interview.html that "When you are admitted, you will enter as a Lawful Permanent Resident, also called a green card holder" which to me implies they should go to the LPR line but maybe I'm not reading it correctly.
  5. I spent some time googling after I posted this and this website says the opposite 😅 https://www.alllaw.com/articles/nolo/us-immigration/entering-on-immigrant-visa-green-card.html Maybe this means it's not important which line they go in? I know my parents would feel calmer going in the visitors line since that's the line they've used dozens of times. Related to their entry, is there a way to verify what address they will be mailing their green cards to? When we started the process years ago we lived in a different address and want to make sure they send it to our current address.
  6. My parents are arriving next week with their IR5 immigrant visa finally! Does anyone know which line they should take when entering the airport at SFO? I think there's 2 lines, one for visitors and one for permanent residents and citizens. I wasn't sure what to tell them since they're neither at this point.
  7. We just paid for each of my parent's $220 USCIS Immigrant Fee for their green card online. It then said: For immigrants who have already paid their Immigrant Fee: Confirm Your U.S. Mailing Address To Receive Your Green Card We were able to setup USCIS accounts but we don't see where to confirm our U.S. Mailing address -- can someone help?
  8. Yes, they kept the passports. Status at https://ceac.state.gov/IV says "Your case is currently being reviewed at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate where your visa interview will take place" Status at https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?App=IV says "Issued. Your visa has been printed. Depending on local procedures at the location where you were interviewed, your visa will be mailed or available for pickup soon" We just got an email from no-reply@ustraveldocs.com saying "Document Status. Dear XXX YYY, Your document(s) have been collected from the US Embassy/Consulate. The passport number being returned is XXXX. You have chosen to have your documents delivered to the following location: XXXXX" We will go to pickup first thing in the morning -- this sounds good but still, fingers crossed. This is for Nepal. How do you create a timeline or ID the country? I'm happy to share anything helpful
  9. My parent's IR5 interview ended with them getting approved verbally. It's been 2 weeks and... crickets. Do we continue waiting or are we missing a step?
  10. 10 minutes is the answer according to https://www.ustraveldocs.com/np/np-niv-securityinfo.asp Glad we found that page because it also says you can't take cell phones or apple watches and there's no place to store them (which I incorrectly had advised my parents they could do). When I was doing this many years ago I remember getting a token and they would keep your cell phones and bags etc during your appointment at the embassy. Bit of a hassle to get a ride back after the interview without a cell phone to coordinate but I guess it's better we found out now versus later.
  11. My parents are scheduled for their IR5 interview in a few days! Anyone have thoughts on how early they should arrive at the embassy?
  12. Finally figured it out -- this page says "Police certificates expire after one year"
  13. My mom and dad's IR5 cases are now past NVC and at the embassy. We got these notes today: Your Uploaded Passport is expiring soon, you must obtain new passport and upload the Bio-Page of your passport at https://ceac.state.gov/IV/login.aspx under the correct category before the interview. You are also requested to update the New Passport details in your Form DS-260 before Interview. One or more Immigrant Visa (IV) Application(s) (form DS-260) on your case have been reopened because updates are required. Please update the DS-260(s) as directed and re-submit the form(s). If you have any questions, please contact your local U.S. Embassy or Consulate General. Information for U.S. Embassies and Consulates can be found at https://www.usembassy.gov/. Luckily they already applied for and got new passports and we updated them at the reopened DS-260 at the CEAC website. They also visited me in the US since we first submitted the DS-260 -- should we go ahead and also update the "Previous U.S. Travel Information" section or leave it as is since the notes only mentions to update the passport details?
  14. My mom and dad got their police clearance certificates on 17Aug22 and their IR5 interviews are scheduled for 2Mar23 which would put it past 6 months. Do they need to get new certificates before their interviews or is that unnecessary? I've seen a 6 month validity floating around the forums but didn't know if that also applies to police clearance certificates
  15. My mom and dad were able to get their interviews at the same time (even though their DQ was 2 months apart) which was a relief. In the "Immigrant Visa Interview Appointment" email it says to follow the instructions at https://nvc.state.gov/prep which then links to country specific instructions here where it says "All immigrant and diversity visa applicants must create a profile at http://www.ustraveldocs.com/np after receiving their appointment letter. This will allow applicants to process case inquiries, submit documents, and obtain updates about visa collection." We then signed up on the ustraveldocs website but we don't know what to do with the site. My mom and dad already have their interviews scheduled and are preparing to schedule their medical exam. Are we missing something and is there something we should do with the ustraveldocs site?
  16. I'm a US citizen applying for IR5 visas for my mom and dad who recently both got DQ'ed. Is there a recommended thread here or a website with instructions on how to prepare for the interview and what docs my parents should take with them? The following 3 links seem to be saying different things: - This link says "You do not need to bring your Affidavit of Support or financial evidence you submitted to NVC" - But this link says "For family based applications: The appropriate Form I-864 Affidavit of Support for each financial sponsor along with a photocopy of the sponsor’s IRS transcript or most recent U.S. federal income tax return" - This comment by @pushbrk also says it's necessary to bring affidavit of support related docs to the interview. I'm both excited and anxious about this interview. My parents are simple, honest, and law abiding and their IR5 application and related docs we submitted are straightforward and legit. If their medical exam and paperwork they take to the interview are acceptable is there a chance they could still be rejected at this stage?
  17. Yes, they're both DQ'ed -- see my post here. Still not confirmed my mom and dad will interview at the same time but I'm trying to make that happen
  18. For anyone else in this situation, I used "Ask NVC" the following: We just got a message that my dad is documentarily qualified. We then got a second message that "This case does not meet the minimum income requirement to sponsor the intending immigrants". We then got a third message that my dad is documentarily qualified along with an email saying "NVC will work with the U.S. Embassy in KATHMANDU to schedule an interview appointment". Could we confirm that my dad is documentarily qualified and in line for an interview? This was their response: This case is documentarily complete, which means the NVC has all the documents we requested. Your application is waiting for an interview appointment, where a consular officer will adjudicate it. The U.S. Embassy or Consulate tells the National Visa Center (NVC) when they hold interviews, and we fill appointment dates as cases become qualified. However, NVC cannot predict when an interview will be scheduled as the pandemic continues to severely impact the number of visas U.S. Embassies and Consulates can process. When local conditions and restrictions allow, most have resumed immigrant visa services. NVC will notify all case parties when your interview appointment is scheduled. Your case will stay at NVC until that time. For the most up-to-date information about the operating status of the U.S. Embassy or Consulate, please visit their website at https://usembassy.gov. Information about preparing for interview appointments is available at these websites: https://nvc.state.gov/prep
  19. Is this necessary since at https://nvc.state.gov/prep it says clearly that "You do not need to bring your Affidavit of Support or financial evidence you submitted to NVC"? I guess my dad could bring it just to be safe
  20. I just got this message before I posted it here I haven't had a chance to discuss with the lawyer. The lawyer who helped me draft the response wanted to do it by the hour since this case had already been submitted but I'm sure I can reach out to her again.
  21. I believe my current income and 2021 taxable income are both sufficient. Here is what I submitted with actual numbers (I had posted the template here a month ago) Evidence of Income for Petitioner (1) To show my 2021 income, attached are my schedule E's for 2021 showing $189,149 in profit from rental income from properties I manage and own as marital/community property of which 50% is mine. (2) To show my current income, attached are profit and loss statements and deeds of my nine properties that generated $433,902 in 2022 in rent with a profit of $283,983. (3) To show current ownership and assessed values of my assets, attached are property tax statements of my 9 properties, which after subtracting amounts owed on mortgages, have a net equity value of $3,756,043 and my brokerage statements that total $492,802. (4) To show my recent monthly rental income, attached are the most recent bank statements of each of my nine properties which documents $41,855 in monthly rental income in Dec 2022.
  22. First message says: All required applicant documents have been received and approved: DOCUMENTARILY QUALIFIED Second message says: Case FE Review note: This case does not meet the minimum income requirement to sponsor the intending immigrants. To avoid delays, an additional Affidavit of Support Form I-864 from a joint sponsor may be submitted. For more information visit https://nvc.state.gov/aos. The consular officer will make a decision regarding this requirement at the time of the interview. For more information, please visit https://www.uscis.gov/i-864p. Third message says: All required applicant documents have been received and approved: DOCUMENTARILY QUALIFIED Anyone know what to make of this? I think and hope this means my dad is DQ'ed but I don't like the second message at all
  23. I discussed the case with an immigration lawyer and this is the response we sent to NVC in case anyone needs a template for a similar situation in the future. I uploaded 5 separate files under "Other" with the following notes: Evidence of Income 1 of 5: Summary Evidence of Income 2 of 5: To show my 2021 income, attached are schedule E's for 2021 showing $A in profit from rental income from properties I manage and own as marital/community property of which 50 percent is mine. Evidence of Income 3 of 5: To show my current income, attached are profit and loss statements and deeds of my nine properties that generated $B in 2022 in rent with a profit of $C. Evidence of Income 4 of 5: To show current ownership and assessed values of my assets, attached are property tax statements of my 9 properties, which after subtracting amounts owed on mortgages, have a net equity value of $D and my brokerage statements that total $E. Evidence of Income 5 of 5: To show my recent monthly rental income, attached are the most recent bank statements of each of my nine properties which documents $F in monthly rental income in Dec 2022. We also used NVC Public Inquiry Form to send the following request. "I have uploaded the additional evidence of income per the Case FE Review note on 01-DEC-2022 for my dad. My mom (NVC Case# KDUXXXXXXXX) was recently documentarily qualified -- could we please consolidate the cases for my parents so they can interview on the same day together. Thank you"
  24. Yes, makes sense. I file jointly so maybe that’s why they asked for the W2 and 1099s. But since all of my income is rental income I only have Schedule E’s
