Thanks for everyone's input and if anyone has any other thoughts then it would be great to see them. Thanks again guys, this forum has been so helpful to me during the entire process and couldn't have got where I am without many many great pieces of advice.

I did check on SAVE and my SSN case is under review and will be reviewed again in 40 days of not updated, pretty much what she said. However, I think I need to go back to social security to hurry this along because it's been two months since GC and I should be legally able to have work authorization removed, it shouldn't be that difficult.

I completed the SS-5 on my visit today but, as I mentioned earlier, she said that they won't be able to verify my status with USCIS/Homeland Security because my SSN hasn't been updated on their system. That's what she told me anyway and that I wouldn't be able to get my updated SSN until they could verify with them. They would try again in four weeks apparently. But I will ask there again and see if they can explain it better.

Hi there, thanks for your reply. I think the point that the assistant at the social security office was making was that, although, as you say, having a green card implies that I must be able to have any restrictions removed, they use Homeland Security to verify my information and as Homeland security have not updated my SSN status, then they can't verify my right to having restrictions removed. I think that's what she meant anyway.

That's what I did today but social security said that they can't update because my status on USCIS is still authorized for work only. The assistant said that they have to change my status on their system before they can update. She said that if it didn't change that they will try again to update on ss system in four weeks.

Yes, I have a green card, it was issued about two months ago.

Hi all, I have a problem regarding my social security number. Before I got married in 2019, I applied for a SSN and got it within a few weeks. For various reasons and covid making things take longer, I didn't get my permanent resident card into about two months ago. I live up in the mountains of San Bernardino where seven feet of snow caused a state of emergency and major damage to beams in the roof of our house. Although we do have home insurance, it looks highly likely that will deny any claim, thus we decided to apply to FEMA, they are camped up here until June. The problem that I have is that FEMA could not process the application because my SSN was flagged up. I went down to social security today to update my SSN to remove the restrictions, ie employment only card, but social security say that they could update within one day if USCIS/ Homeland Security had updated my account when I got my green card but unfortunately they haven't done it and my SSN is showing employment only. I should point out the house is still in my name only as I bought it in 2012 before we were married. Does anyone have any ideas? If I can call USCIS, will they be able to deal with it? Any advice/ information welcome. Thanks Keith

Hi all, Just to say that my I-485 was approved on March 14th and I have received the letter confirming my approval. What a battle to get there after being denied and then being convinced by you guys to file an I-290b which eventually appears to have been successful. Thanks to everyone who contributed on my journey, believe me, I couldn't have got there without you all. One thing though, after I was approved, I received a sightly generic email from the local San Bernardino office stating that I may have to provide evidence of our relationship, can they still ask for this after approval or can I just ignore? I should also add, we weren't asked to have an interview. Thank you!

Yes, the received date on the letter is 12/15/22, which is more or less the date of the successful I-290B and the notice date after the odd denial date. Thanks for all the advice, I really appreciate it. Fingers crossed, will keep you updated.

I am assuming that with my case now reopened that if they deny me again they will have to give me a new reason for that. Noone gave me a reason as to why my case changed to denied and why it changed so quickly after my I-290 was successful. After my initial explanation to the officer, she went away and discussed things with other officers before returning with the supervisor. My feeling was that an error had been made at some point but noone admitted this. I probably didn't push things as much as I should, we were just pleased that my case was being reopened. Should I call USCIS to ask about the missing denial letter? I should point out, I did get an official letter through the post that my case has been reopened.

The document states - We have reviewed the application or petition ("your case") listed above. We have reopened your case, or reconsidered the decision previously issued on your case. We will notify you in writing when we make a decision on your case or if we need additional information. It's dated 1/31/23 , the day of the interview at San Bernardino.

The i-290 b is on my USCIS account now and it states that my case has been reopened and will be reviewed again. So I some that protects me from any problems of not refiling?

Hi again, sorry for not getting back to you. Went down to San Bernardino office last Tuesday and explained the situation re the denial and no notice. I was eventually passed to a supervisor and she was really nice. She said that she would have a look at my file and call us back. She called us back and said that they are looking again at my files, another officer has been asked to check everything out and then give a decision in 30 to 60 days. She also said that she had a quick look at my I-693 form and it looked ok at first look. So now I have to wait and see. Trying to be positive but has too many knocks to be overly so. Thanks for keeping in touch with my case, I will keep everyone informed when I hear more. Put my refilling on hold for now. Thanks again.

Just another update. I called today and a tier 2 officer is going to call me with a view to arranging an appointment at the San Bernardino office to explain things to me. I don't know if that's positive or not but at least I will find out and maybe argue my case.

Yes, sorry, understand now. I think they have until the end of the week. I will call them and try to get a tier 2 officer. Thanks for the advice. I will keep you updated when I know more. Thank you!

Thanks for that. What is a service request? Sorry for not getting my head around the term. Could it be that my i-290 was approved by someone and then sent back to San Bernardino and the officer who denied it originally. He/she skimmed over the new information/evidence and then did a final denial, based on the same reason for the initial denial. By the way, I have been preparing for a new filing of the I-485. Hopefully get things complete by the end of this week.

No, nothing in the mail. It doesn't look that i will get any further information. Should I call them? I thought that i would get a reason as to why my case was reconsidered and then closed.

Thanks for that. That's why I was so hopeful, the fact that it had been granted. I am assuming it went back to the same officer in San Bernardino who had a quick look, couldn't miss the chance to get the denial statistics up and then denied it again. Makes me sick that I could get everything right with finances, documentation and be denied on something ridiculous. I assume that they will have to send me a letter stating why I was denied again?

I assume that means that a decision has been made? I won't get any letter giving me an explanation?
