Stein replied to Rearviewmirror's topic in US Citizenship Case Filing and Progress Reports
And, we're done. Oath ceremony complete this afternoon. Happy to have that journey behind us. -
Please help me figure out if my n400 will be okay

Heck, I wasn't even allowed in for our I-751 interview, strange as that seems. -
Anyone else's I751 taking forever???
Stein replied to catnap's topic in Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion
Just file the N400. We filed I-751 in January 2023. Filed N400 January 2024 and both are done already. Oath in two weeks. -
Dude, you are good. Stop stressing about this. If you go into an interview as crazy tense as you seem here you might fail. Show a little confidence instead of abject fear. Just relax. My wife was stressed about it - I understand it's a Vietnamese thing to always think the worst - but it's not that bad when you get there. You have what you need. Just relax and answer the handful of questions you will get. Five minutes later you will wonder what you were all worked up about.

Bring the transcript and bank statements since you filed the I-751 if you are looking to ROC and N-400 at the same time. They asked my wife for both since the I-751 filing. Just glanced at them but they did ask. -
We did this for my wife's interview last week, per OldUser's direction. Same question even, but we had 2 instead of 3 marriages (didn't consider counting the current one). The interviewer asked if she had any additional documentation to provide and she gave him the errata sheet and it was a done deal. Three columns, first column is section and question number. Second column is what was entered. Third column is what it should have been.

Dude, read what you wrote and just cut your losses and move on.

Ours, too. I was checking for my wife's oath ceremony date as we are out of state for another week. I assume we will be fine but wanted to know what the date is. -
Five years, alot of paperwork and a few thousand dollars. My wife took her citizenship interview this week and passed. Now just an oath ceremony left and then citizenship for her and her daughter. Will be good to leave USICS behind. Keep it up the rest of you. There is an end in sight.

N-400 January 2024 filers

So, a very strange interview. My wife, daughter and I went to her N-400 interview. When we arrived we presented her appointment letter and I explained that we anticipated a combo interview for I-751 and N-400. The first guy had no idea what we were talking about but the other guy overheard and said to let us all go in. After 30 minutes or so the interviewer called her. I went up with her and asked if the files were there and could we get a combo interview. He said yes, he had the files, but he could adjudicate the I-751 and N-400 with my wife only. They didn't need me. I asked again and he said I wasn't needed. So, my daughter and I just sat in the waiting room. Twenty minutes later she came out and the interviewer told me that she passed. I asked him if that meant the N-400 or the I-751 and he said both. I was a bit worried because I put together the packet and knew where everything was. He indicated that he needed to check a few things and watch the USICS site for her oath appointment letter. She later told me he asked her if she had any additional documents to submit. She didn't know what submit meant when he said documents since we filed I-751. Finally she figured out what he wanted and showed him copies of the bank statements and last IRS filing report. He glanced at them, didn't ask for any copies and said she was fine. He asked her about employment. She said she was a stay-at home mom. He asked how old her daughter was. When she said 17 he asked why she needed to be a stay-at-home mom for a 17 year old. She laughed and said "I have an 8 month old baby." We had uploaded his birth certificate with the N-400 but it was after we submitted the I-751 so he must have just glossed over the files. Just a bit strange all around but at least we are done! -

No updates since Fingerprints were Taken or Biometrics Reused. Should we still plan to just all go there when my wife goes for N400 interview and hope for a combo interview? It would be for wife and daughter. I assume the 17 year old daughter needs to attend as well. I thought I read something about children over 14 must attend.

Errata sheet? Just a letter since this is an online application? -
Error on N-400 - number of times married (Merged)
Stein replied to Stein's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
On my wife's N-400 it says I ( USC spouse) was married two times. I was married three, two before and to her. On all other applications, I-130 and I-751 it lists all three and we have always sent in both divorce certficates. I did upload both with the N-400. Should I do something before her interview which is May 20 or just have her point out the error as soon as they start the interview? We have always sent both divorce certificates on all applications. I'm sure they will see the error. -

OK. I'm going to just keep quiet and let her keep studying them. It can't hurt! -

Actually, my wife has been studying a list of "definition" words. I don't know where she found it but it must have been on some Vietnamese user group. There are 100 words or phrases with definitions. Words like "parole" "conviction" "pardon", etc. The two questions the person above was asked are also two of the words or phrases that my wife is studying. This is in addition to the 100 civics questions. I haven't heard of this before she started studying them and haven't read anyone else's interview summary that asked these questions but she was adamant that some interviews include these questions. The post above is the first confirmation that I've heard of it. -
We just received notice on the USICS site that my wife's N-400 interview has been scheduled. I assume this is a combo interview but there is nothing on the letter that states that it is. If it is a combo interview does the letter state that both she and I attend? Also, my wife's 17 year old daughter immigrated with her. Does she need to attend for eith the I-751 interview or the N-400 interview? We did file I-751 for each.

Just received notice on th USICS site that my wife' interview was scheduled for May 20. Lucky timing because we leave for vacation May 23 for 8 days. We filed 1/25 which was right at the 90 days before 3 years. -
Do I need to Amend my Tax Return for 2022
Stein replied to MT2021's topic in Tax & Finances During US Immigration
File an amended return for your 2022 return and add her and her SSN. The good news is you will get a refund as your standard deduction will go up from single to married. I did this as well as I was living overseas with my wife until her visa was approved. When we got to the US I filed an amended return as married filing jointly. -
We did have my wife's daughter do an extra year although she arrived in US after almost completing grade 9 when we moved (only 6 weeks left in the school year). She would have also graduated at age 17 if she went into grade 10, although a few months older than your daughter. We elected to have her do Grade 9 again for the same reasons you are thinking - more math, science and English as well as to put her in school to graduate at a normal 18 years old. What i don't know if your daughter can do is repeat grade 12 after she already graduates from high school. That would be something to discuss with your local school system. You should call the school district. I think they would be rather helpful. If she can, it might be wise to repeat grade 12 for more math/science as well as English, and most importantly, eliminate your original question of whether she enrolls in college as in-state or foreign student as she would have graduated from a US high school. If they absolutely won't let you repeat grade 12 after graduating from her home school due to some rule it may even be worth considering not letting her complete grade 12 at home with an incomplete at the very end of the year. Again, a discussion for your present school district.

Doing taxes when married to foreign spouse
Stein replied to sam3435's topic in Tax & Finances During US Immigration
I filed single from Vietnam (stayed there during COVID) and then filed an amended return when we got to the US and she got her SSN. Got a refund due to extra standard deduction for being married.
