If you can apply waiting roc why doing later?, apply for citizenship early is good because your case is in line
Would it not go faster? Anyway, we go on a small trip out of the country in June and I dont want to risk having an interview or biometrics right at that time (happened with the greencard interview) so I'll apply when we are back.
I am so happy I came checking on other peoples time lines or I would never have known I could already apply for citizenship. I am so ready to vote -

If you are married to same usc that you get the green card and you are resident 3 years, then you can apply for citezenship.
i am waiting roc too, and on april 25 i can apply for citezenship, and i will. I have all my papers ready to apply on april 25. You can apply 90 days before 3 years as resident. On july 24 i will be 3 years resident, so my 90 days are on april 25.
Five years is if are applying no marriage base.
I already got to that in January. Can you also apply after? Or only in that 90 day before period?
Anyway, I'll wait until the conditions are removed. Hope that goes soon though. In june it will be 1 year after it should have happened. -

So any April fillers with pending I-751 filing n-400?
My understanding is that if you apply for citizenship while I-751 pending both applications are joined and sent to the local uscis office BUT the clock resets for another year basically
Am I correct that it’s better to wait for I-751 first?
How can you apply for citizenship? Don't you have to live in the US for 5 years? I am only coming up on 3 years this June. Still waiting on ROC.

I figured! Those notices are fine. You don't need new biometrics they are applying old ones during covid.
And your extension is 18 months while ROC processes.
Yeah I know. But you know how it goes... everyone gets a bit nervous when it takes ages. I have no idea what the timeline is for this part and wanted to check with the others. Seem everyone is in the same boat.

What does the notice say? What form number does the notice show AND what for number did you file?
From what you say. Those updates sound like an I90 filing 🧐
Sorry wrong forum. I needed the removal of conditions one

Edit: wrong subforum

Our check got cashed this week and got my letter. It says: "your greencard is extended for 18 months."
What does that mean? That they are really slow and didn't get to the real removal yet? Or will we have to file another I-751 in 18 months? -
Sent on 4/18 to AZ
Got it on 4/22
But no notice yet and check not cashed. My husband is afraid we did something wrong and they won't mail it back to the right address as our physical and mailing address isn't the same.
How long does it take to cash the check? -
We got our interview scheduled too. SO fast! I thought I would get my work permit and travel documents before... and then in some months from now the interview... But it looks like it's going to be other way around... The thing is that we are just on holiday in another state so we have to fly back home for 1 day But hey, we are going forward.
Interview on June 13...- junkmart, Soul Mate, Stefaniesm and 1 other

It's been 4 months for us. But we have just received our interview date for Green Card! So it looks like we will have that before EAD!
Us too... And I thought I would have my EAD within 90 days of sending in the papers... Must have completely misread... I have my interview 4 months after sending in all the papers... Maybe the EAD and travel papers are on their way...

Well, after two hours on hold, they told me I had contacted the wrong department. They then said they'd transfer me to the right one and hung up on me...gotta love the DMV.
Why am I not surprised... Dealing in the government is everywhere the same hassle... Sorry for you, though...

Unless things have changed as a K1 in Colorado you would not have the documentation to apply for a DL in 90 days, you would not be able to show you were resident. And even if you could it would not going beyond the K1 90 days so there is no point.
I was asked to show: passport, Marriage license, SSN, I94, I797 and proof of adress after I did my written test. (I have the paper given by them here next to me) Then I could schedule my practical test. They all knew I was K1. No one ever said, it would only last until the end of my i94. Anyway... As a foreign DL counts for the first 90 days, there is no reason do to your Colorado DL if they will both expire anyway.
So I'll wait for my EAD and go and try again. And I'll tell my friend: don't bother. -
Just now, Boiler said:
Can your friend not use her home DL? Every State gives you some leeway as a new resident.
Yes, of course. But that also expires after 90 days... And she'll have to wait to get her EAD or GC too... They still need to get married, so she's not yet in that process.
-
So there is actually totally not reason to go for a DL before you get an EAD or GC? I have a friend that just arrived on her K1... If I can help her to avoid all this hassle and bs, it's not bad, no?

I agree. The I797 only proves they have authorized stay as per their pending I485. It doesnt change her status of being out of status.
That's what was told me to bring by several DMV personnel... Of course, then i still had some days left on my I-94...

The website also says:
"For those able to demonstrate lawful presence:
Applications will be accepted at any state drivers license office. No appointment is necessary for a renewal, written test, application and review of written documents or instruction permit. However, you will need to make an appointment for a driving test."
I'm pretty sure that the I-797 you receive after you submit for AOS is proof of lawful presence. Now if we can just convince DMV of this...
I've been on hold with them for 53 minutes.
It is proof, but my i-94 is expired... So that's their problem... I think their computer program doesn't want to take my case... Or something like that...
Maybe, if my man finds the time, we'll go to another DMV, Denver or so. Although that the Boulder office must get lots of foreigners in too. It's kinda full of expats here... -
I guess you have to provide all... And as I am new, I dont have anything taxes/IRS wise... So that's a no go...

If you check the Colarado DMV website you will see you can only drive while you have authorized status. Once your I94 expires you will not have authorized status and wont have it again until your EAD or GC is approved.
But apparently it worked for him and he's also residing in Colorado... We're not living far from from each other. Different DMV though, I guess. I can only go and ask about it, no? I have all the time of the world right now... They also never said anything about the EAD. So maybe they are also a bit unknowing...

It means they did you a courtesy and ran your I94 number with DHS to double check that you definitely did not have legal status even though your I94 says you dont.
But apparently, following what Johnebertus said, if they get back the request, we can move forward...

Check into the SAVE program through USCIS. I've been to the DMV 4 times with my wife for the same reason, and the last time we visited they sent a request through that program. If they hassle you at DMV, have them submit a request through SAVE. Apparently they can give a response to the DMV explaining your situation so that you can move ahead with your drivers license.
You know what... So I never heard of this program and I went checking what it was... Apparently the DMV sent in a SAVE request with my I94 number, but they didn't tell me about that... I'll probably go and check what it all is about, tomorrow or so.

Traffic misdemeanor which can be short jail time and a fine. Also, you may not be covered by insurance so if something happens you may not be covered. I don't think you want to start your life in the US like that. Why not just take a uber or lyft or see if a family member can take you or your hubby could take off?
It's far and we don't have family... I'll try to rearrange the appointment then...

The thing with the K-1 visa is that it's rushing to stand still. Yes, people get here faster on a K-1 but then you can become a prisoner in your own home during that limbo period. 😕
There's always ridesharing services (Uber, Lyft) in case you need to be driven anywhere. You can find coupons online too. Not the cheapest option but at least you could get to your appointment.
Ok, an illegal question? How bad would it be if I am driving anyway. I do have a Belgian drivers license for already 18 years. We are allowed to drive for 90 days, and then not anymore. Very kafkaian! Most of the times, my husband drives anyway, but he has to work on the Biometrics day...

They didn't tell that when I went for doing my test 4 days before expiring from my I-94... So or they don't know how their things work... or it is possible. The lady told me, I'd get a temporary one and could shedule my practical test the second I brought my I-797 so I'd have a real DL...
Anyway, that doesn't matter now... Nice when you need to go and do biometrics but you're not allowed to drive... -

Most places you can't get DL without the Green Card or the EAD.
So try and go back when you have your EAD.
We can in Colorado... but that's a good thing though, if an EAD would work. I'll need to check that.

My husband finally filled in the taxes so I applied for my citizenship. Only 7 months after the day I could have
No biometrics. They will reuse the previous set.
