  1. ETA: Just read that the NJ DMV does verify through SAVE (it's on the SAVE page I linked, not all state DMVs use SAVE). So yeah, wait a little while after you receive the card to go down to the DMV.

  2. It will take a couple of weeks for it to show up in SAVE too. I know the SSA verifies through SAVE. Not sure about the DMV but I wouldn't be surprised. So wait a couple of weeks before going down to the SSA and DMV. It's supposed to be entered when the card is produced, but you know USCIS... nothing is speedy or efficient.

Congrats again though. One more step accomplished. Hope that you get an interview date soon for your AOS!

  3. Congrats! :) The EAD serves as proof of legal presence for a lot of things including a DL or State ID (depending on the state) and now you can get an SSN with it (wait a few weeks after you have the card in hand though).

  4. Heh, finally went to the DMV today to get my state ID. Picture is "okay".

The lady at the counter was super nice until she saw my other ID docs (Cdn passport with I-94 & EAD)... then she was just "wait here" and "$10". ####### was up with that?

The lady who took my pic was REALLY nice though.

  5. Lots of people travel back and forth especially from Canada. I never had any problems but there's never any guarantee and the final decision is always up to the CBP officer. I always brought proof of ties to Canada with me and my entire immigration file.

See this thread for ideas on what to bring.

It would be nice if we could get that thread pinned.

  6. If I had known when we filed what I know now, I would have filed for the K visa instead of the IR1

But now you avoid having to do AOS! And since you're IR1, all you have to do is... nothing after you get it :)

(unless you want to file for citizenship in 3 years).

  7. Congrats on Packet 3.... FAX IT OFF ASAP! Then email them the next day just asking if they got the fax okay and if a date had been scheduled. :)

And from the looks of it, it's still about 1 month from receiving packet 3. There were 2 people who sent back packet 3 this month and their interview is in September.

Also when I sent my P3 back, I asked for "earliest date available appointment after <date>". If you can get to Vancouver on short notice you may wish to just write "earliest available appointment". Stacey33 got her interview in 9 days that way.

I think there's a very good chance you'll be able to get there before November!

  8. well if she's not going to a wedding she won't have a white dress. She can certainly bring a dress over the border herself and tell them she is going to a party. I don't see the problem in that.

Unless her party dress IS a white dress. I still vote for Jeremy going over to get the dresses! :)

  9. Thanks everyone for your replies, now with that beng said our petition is still at CSC wouldn't it make more cents to request the transferr there even before it gets to the NVC or the MTL Consulate!

But yes I will likely be goin that route just because I will be out there and it would just more convienent for me oh and sooo much faster then waiting for MTL!!!

Don't know what I'd do without all you on here,it's because of you guys that my sanity is still intact,at least so far,,Thanks again everyone for your input!!!

Oh and thanks for the doctor info that also helps!!!!!!!

It's the NVC who sends it out to the consulates so you'd have to wait until it got to the NVC or MTL. I've read of people trying to change their beneficiary's address while the petition is pending but not sure how successful that is since USCIS is not good about these things!

And for the Montreal people waiting, one less person going through Montreal means another slot opens up. :)

  10. No, she's going over to have a big party. It's not a legal wedding or anything and she's not staying.

Jeremy, will they be bringing their dresses and stuff with them? You *might* want to head across the border and drive that across yourself as the USC.

They can say they are going to a party (true) if asked. How often does she normally cross or do you do all the crossing? Can she have one of her bridesmaids drive? They're going to a friend's party (true).
