  1. Am I the only one thinking that sending a US visa document via courier to a foreign address is counter productive to good security? I mean..in my way of thinking, it would seem to make more security sense to actually hand the visa to the individual standing in front of you, this way, there is the opportunity to verify a beneficiaries identity in person. Doesn't that make more sense? Or am I missing something here?
But that would just make too much sense right? ;) Nothing about this process is common sense, certainly not the way K3s are handled.

Don't Vancouver people get their K1s or K3s in hand the same day? I know Montreal is the only one that does IR1/CR1 though.

  2. niagra, where did you see that someone from oct 24 got an approval from VSC?

Third link is from October 24 and the others are from earlier in October for VSC:

Two for K3 (with I-130 approval)

    And two for IR-1/CR-1:

  3. Whoops, I forgot to mention that when I go across with the animals, it will be a land crossing. My stuff will be moved separately with a trucking/moving service.

I'm thinking that I will probably go for a visit (without animals, and maybe a few suitcases of clothes) and fly across to activate my K3 the first time. The POE would be here in Toronto at Pearson airport. I'd probably avoid an early flight since the pre-clearance seems to be the busiest in the mornings with all the business class passengers.

  4. Unless you receive an RFE for such information, save it for the interview. Anything submitted outside of receiving an RFE may not find its way to your file and isn't recommended. I have noted other members that when they have received an RFE for something, have submitted additional info as well at this time. As I said in before, I haven't noted any RFE's asking for this additional evidence of a bona fide marriage at the petition stage as it has always been something that one supplies at the interview stage.
Thanks so much for your input. I also haven't seen any other members receiving an RFE for evidence of a bona fide marriage at the petitional level, but I will have plenty of evidence at the interview stage.
  5. If you need him to sign papers again get him to FedEx or UPS it over to you. It's expensive, but worth the piece of mind. Same with submitting documents to the service centres. Definitely get some sort of tracking on the package (signature required or not) so at least you know when it was received.

Hopefully the service centre is just slow with opening and putting things into their system. Good luck!

  6. aussiewench, for those of us who have a pending I-130 and didn't provide supplemental information (and have not lived with our spouses), do you think it is too late to send in additional info such as letters from friends and family? I had just assumed these would be presented at the consulate level along with things like phone bills, boarding passes, etc. I was going to present that information for my k3 or CR-1, whatever interview I get first.

  7. Did you check to see if they had cashed the cheque yet? On the back of it will also be your case # assigned where you can track it online. 3 weeks seems like a long time... see if the cheque has been cashed first.

Whenever we send anything in, we get tracking on the package (with signature) so we know when it is delivered.

  8. You're going to be held up anyway when you move across the border. Especially with pets with you, they'll require paperwork too! Its rare that they'll just wave you thru if you have animals with you.

When you go to move permanently, are you driving or flying across? You'd better check the Customs and Border Patrol website for their requirements regarding pets. Plus, you'll need to have your personal items itemized and boxes labeled as well. There's tons of info about what you'll need in the Canada forum, go have a look around.

Oh yeah, I know I'll be held up a little bit with animals though not as long as if I'd have to activate a K3 at the same time. I've already checked the requirements for "importing animals" across the border (not much to it actually). Certificates of vaccinations and they may or may not be visually inspected. I've already talked to my vet about this in advance. None of them are under 3 months old or are sick so they won't need to be quarantined. Funny, 2 of my cats were originally from Detroit and were rescued about 1.5 years ago. I guess they'll get their citizenship back when I move. :P

The bulk of my move will be done using a trucking service. When I go across to move, I'll just have my animals and some fragile stuff with me, not much at all.

    Thanks! :)

  9. hmm

    thanks for the replies

n Misa its good to know that so far we have almost same timeline, n yes i would like to keep an eye on your case and see how it progresses, i wish you good luck with that,

    Aftab!

Looks like they are touching both our I-129Fs quite a bit these past couple of days. I'm assuming it's because they are both at VSC and are making their way into the system there? We should both be getting a "received and pending" note from VSC soon. From the looks of it, VSC has been doing quite a few approvals lately so I hope they continue to speed things along for everyone.

Good luck on yours as well. :)
