So, I attended my Oath Ceremony today at Denver USCIS office and I am so happy that I am finally a US citizen. 

The ceremony was quick because there were only 56 people. It supposed to be 59 but 3 didn't showed up. It was like lil over an hour ceremony.

A quick update from my N-400 interview.

I have a pending I-751 (11/2016 filer) coming to the N-400 interview (12/2017 filer).

 

I am in California, and my local office is Santa Ana. My whole interview process was almost an hour long.

 

I went to my N-400 interview yesterday (with pending ROC). The officer called in me without asking for my husband.

When we came in to his office, he asked for my green card and ID. He then continued to ask when I came to the States and why the date don't match with my green card?

I explained that because I got my green card through marriage. He then said I was not eligible for naturalization (!?). I said no, I am eligible. I know the rules and also, when I filed online, they made me answer some questions to verify my eligibility. If I was not eligible, I could not make it here for this naturalization interview.

He paused for a bit, asked if I'm still married. I said yes. He asked for all the letters from USCIS that I've received since I started the ROC application.

I handed him my receipt and the fingerprint appointment letter. I also informed him that my husband was right outside in the waiting room, and if he might want to call my husband in and do the I-751 interview? He looked at my documents briefly and said no. 

He then stormed out of the room with my green card and NOA1 from ROC. He was gone for probably 15 minutes or so, came back to grabbed a big folder on his desk (at that moment I realized it was my ROC folder - which got transferred to the local office) and left again.

 

A couple minutes went by, he came back.

I asked him what was going on, but he just totally ignored me. Since the beginning, his attitude had been cold and unnecessarily rude. 

 

Anyway, at this point, he started flipping through papers in my ROC folder.

By the way he looked at it, I was pretty sure it was his first time going through it too. But he did not ask me anything about it. 

He then proceeded the N-400 test. He asked me to read, write and 6 civic questions. He said I passed and then moved on to ask me questions on my N-400 application.

Everything went fine. I signed the Oath of Allegiance and confirmed that my name, address and basic info was correct.

 

I was so happy at this point, thinking "Aha! This is it!"

 

BUT NO. He then left the room again, and came back within 5 minutes. Our conversation went like this:

Officer (O): "You passed the citizenship test, but unfortunately your I-751 application is still pending, so we can not approve you till that is out of the way."

Me (M): "Ok. May I know the time frame when my other application will be processed or looked at?"

O: "I have no idea, to be honest."

M: "Ok.. I mean, I thought once I passed my citizenship test, my I-751 application will also be approved?"

O: "No, sorry it doesn't work that way"

......

O: "Do you have any other questions?"

M: "No I don't. I'm just kinda disappointed since it will be another waiting game for me."

O: "I know, that's why earlier I was trying to, you know...."

M: "Yes, I totally understand. And I thank you for that."

O: "Ok, you should just wait to hear back from us."

 

Now another waiting game begins. It's so frustrating.

Don't worry, they'll just gonna review your ROC first if they need anything like RFE or interview from you they will probably notify you by mail. If everything is good on your ROC application most likely they will approved your N400 and schedule you for Oath. This what happened to me. Check my timeline below.

You should ask a moderator to move this to a separate thread for more responses.  Regardless, a couple of comments, the extension letter expires one year from the date the GC expired, not the date on the letter.  He can apply for citizenship three years less 90 days from the date on his GC, so count out three years from the date on the GC and subtract 90 days.  If he meets that criteria, then sure, he can file the N400.  Having a pending ROC does not keep anyone from filing the N400.

Yes. As long as he met all the requirements. Also, I applied as soon I became Eligible  with a pending ROC ( 90days before my 3 year anniversary of my Green Card) I am now waiting my Oath which is next week. Good luck to you and to your husband.

There are some that are lucky enough to get an approval on both on their interview too. In my case my officer said he didn’t review my file ahead that’s the reason why I didn’t get approve that day on my interview. Hopefully your will get an approval on your interview instead of waiting. It’d be nice.

Thanks. I submitted mine on 10/23/2017. Biometrics 11/16/2017. Interview scheduled 01/10/2018 (status never went in line). Interview 02/14/2018. Approved and in line for oath 02/20/2018. Oath scheduled 03/02/2018. Oath Ceremony 03/20/2018.

I had the same situation you’re in. I didn’t inquire about my ROC. I went to my interview and passed. Officer told me he cannot approved my n400 that day because he has to review my ROC first. After 5 days from the day of my interview I was approved and they put me on the queue for oath taking. I will be having my On on the 20th of this month. Good luck

The first thing the officer did after we arrived at his office is swear me in. He then asked to see my GC, Driver’s License and Passport. No other documents or paperwork were asked whatsoever, so even though I had carried them I did not provide them.

He then proceeded to ask me a few questions to confirm the information on my application (general information such as my name, DOB, country of citizenship, address, wife’s name, wife’s DOB). He then proceeded to the Yes/No questions.
The next part was the civics and history part - I passed all 6. The following questions were asked (not necessarily in the same order – I can’t remember the order):

1. What is the name of the US national anthem?
2. Why does the flag have 13 stripes?
3. What is the rule of law?
4. What major event occurred on September 11, 2001?
5. What ocean is on the west coast of the United States?
6. How old do citizens have to be to vote for President?

I was then asked to read one sentence, then write a different sentence:

• READ: There are one hundred senators
• WRITE: People want to vote

The officer said their computer system seemed to have a glitch as he could not enter the answers to the questions on the test part, and even though he said I passed the test, my application could not be approved on the spot. He also said they will need to scan some documents into the system after which they would inform me of the decision.  I did however confirm the information that will appear on the certificate of naturalization and signed off on it, so that is hopefully some good news.

Can anyone inform us what to expect at this time? His driver's license is expiring 5/18/2018 does it mean his papers will be ready before that time for renewal? our service center is CSC

Schedule an info pass appointment at your local uscis office to get a stamped. i751 right is taking much longer.

I’m in Denver. I’m not sure about the fees were waived since I didn’t request for that. It might just a uscis’s mistake so don’t know. I had a feeling you will be getting your interview soon. May I ask what is your status online right now?

Don’t worry they might working on giving you a schedule for your n400 interview soon. And hopefully they will approved both application at the same time. I wish you luck. ... where is your field office? Mine is in Denver CO

I have been waiting on two applications, one from 2016, and the other one since last year without any  major updates and the USCIS officers never give you any update of any kind, just waste your time mostly. Anyway, I am done ranting. Is any one in the same boat?

Hi, we had similar situation. I filed N400 while my roc is still pending. My Roc was file back in October of 2016. And on October 2017 I decided to file n400. When I went to my interview in February 14 2018 the officer told me CSC sent my ROC to my local field office as soon as they found out I filed for n400. I passed my interview that time but unfortunately he cannot made a desicion yet because he has to review my roc before he will approve me.             Feb 20 my n400 was approved and they placed me in line for oath. March 2 my status was updated I was scheduled for oath and today I am able to view and print my oath for March 20th 2018. Until now I haven’t heard from my roc and the status online still remain the same which is fees were waived. I hope you’ll get an interview soon.

Fastest will be by going to a passport agency office with expedited processing there - it will cost you the extra $60, and you will have to have evidence of an urgent need.  The Colorado Passport Agency is in Aurora:  https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/requirements/where-to-apply/passport-agencies/colorado.html

 

You cannot technically apply without evidence of a journey coming up, but if you have the itinerary, or other information about your trip, you are good to go if your trip is within 2 weeks.

Thank you. I just booked a ticket leaving on April 09th 2018. I will apply my passport on my Oath or the following day. I hope this is enough time for me.
