  1. Hi all!

I'm so happy to hear some progress for many of you!

My fiance and I are working on everything we need for the interview date (recieved at NVC , transfered to electronic but no case # yet). Filip spent three years in Portugal, he was not registered there, he has always been a resident of Norway. He paid Norwegian taxes during that time. He rented several different apartments over the 3 years in Portugal. Our K1 application has supporting evidence containing trips I took to Portugal to visit him while he was living there. Many posts about police records throughout this and other topics have been helpful!

So onto my question...He has a copy of his Norwegian police record for the interview but what about Portugal?

The Norwegian police record says it's valid only for Norway. The Portuguese one doesn't specify but it does state it's available to "former residents"

If he was never registered or legally a resident there, does he need a copy of his police record for the time he was there ?

Would they even have a document available to him?

Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks all!

  2. I have been calling NVC and pressing 7. On Friday the 27th, they told me they recieved the case. Today I called and the lady asked me to call back and press 5! When I did, the next lady told me they recieved the case today, 5/1. I explained that I had been told that it arrived on the 27th already. She explained that it probably had been received as a non electronic case accidentally and when they went to process it, they discovered it should've been electronic and was moved over to that system with the "new" recieved date. She said her supervisor could go in and change the date recevied.

    Another insight into NVCland !!!

  3. Hi Scandis!

So my question has to do with police records...I know he needs a copy of his Norwegian police record for the interview but what about Portugal?

  4. Filip had his medical exam today. He had to get an update on his tetanus and diphtheria shot. He had to fill out a questionnaire. The doctor was really nice and was complaining a bit about the process, how complicated it has gotten since he began 30 some years ago. So it sounds like even on the other side of this, they aren't enjoying it either. The appointment in total was about 1.5 hours, they were running behind a bit.

Hope everyone has a successful week and we are all able to make a lot of progress, no matter where we are in the process!

    Congratulations on your NOA2!

For us, NOA2-POE would've been possible in just about 7 weeks if I had not had any commitments in Sweden. We also had travel plans that delayed the process slightly. So I think your plan is reasonable as long as you're flexible :)

Excellent to know ! Thank you so much! Did Sweden send the information checklist  (packet 3 I believe?) via email or snailmail?

Ha incredible how each phase is like it's own language and every bit there is a whole new set of terms to get to know .

  6. Hey all! I've been lurking on this thread for the past few weeks as I was awaiting our NOA2. Thank you for posting tips and your experiences.

    We just got notified today! NOA1 - Oct 17, NOA2 - Apr 11.

We saw each other a week ago and had started preparing the next round of documents.

I know it would have to go very smoothly with no bumps in the road but we are hoping for POE and subsequent ceremony in 8 weeks!

    This!

My personal timeline went crazy between August and January of this year. It's going to move around. Don't you worry about that. Just keep up with what's happening with other months and you'll have a more informed idea of what's being processed. :)

Thank you!! Ah this is so difficult for a type A to deal with- so many unknowns and guestimates. It's much easier for my easy going, wonderfully calm fiance.  I really appreciate any and all feedback and tips from all of you. It's invaluable to be part of this community where there are no dumb questions.

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend !!

7 months to POE would be very very desirable to me honestly and I think the 7-9 months total is a good estimate for us October filers.

I'm with you @ThomasNC1988. If October approvals happened in 7 months, that would be really nice. I am just hoping it doesn't creep back to the 8th, 9th month. This week we saw some headway in July and into August but it has not really put a noticeable dent in our estimated approval time (it moved one day closer and then one day farther away).

We have started discussing getting married with our families as soon as we can and having a party in the fall to celebrate. It would be so much easier for planning and my nerves. it would also give the best chance aka the most notice for international friends and family to participate. I think this is what many in our situation have been doing. Like others, we are anxious to begin our lives together and all the adjustments that come with it.

    Hang in there everyone.

Ok sorry for bombing you with notifications this morning, but where are you in NYC if you don’t mind me asking? :) @blenheim

We have not decided exactly where to settle yet (he will be moving once I get there), but we want to be pretty central. I loved Brooklyn where we could run together in Prospect Park but it’s far from his job so he is more interested in a few neighborhoods in Manhattan. Either way we’ll be living in a shoe box I guess ;)

We are all probably looking at similar neighborhoods. We walked around Gowanus and a bit in Red Hook. I am in sales so I need my car to get out of the city, so ease of parking is an issue for us. We will probably end up in South Harlem or Hamilton Heights. The vibe there is great, not far from main subway lines (like red hook) and Hamilton Heights, although being freshly cool enough to be named and part of "Manhattan" gives quite the Brooklyn vibe. If you haven't already, you both should check it you!  Keep us posted on your visas, wishing you the best of luck with the upcoming appointments. One day we will have to celebrate in NYC.

  10. Hi everyone! I live in South Carolina and my fiancé in Norway, we are looking to settle together in NYC. It is so helpful to read about everyone else's experiences. Thank you all for sharing. We are October filers, watching our NOA2 time get pushed back 6 weeks and now slowly improving. As we await the next step, does anyone have any tips about what things they would've done differently? Or wish they had known to do? Thanks again!!! All the best to everyone on this forum :)

  11. Hi Octobers!! We filed our paperwork before getting officially engaged, with the distance it was just more practically that way . He proposed yesterday so now we are TRULY fiances. We are still holding out hope for a small Mid-June wedding. If things don't speed up we will only have 6 weeks in between NOA2 and wedding date. The Scandinavian consulate doesn't look as busy as others and NVC times are getting back to normal. What kind of things can we try to do beforehand to make the things we can control go smoothly ? I read on the Medical Exam guidelines for Scandinavia that the x-ray and blood panel need to be done less than 90days from the  medical appointment and the medical exam is valid for 6 months so he could hypothetically do the x-rays and blood tests in late March or April and have his medical exam in April - all before his visa interview in hopefully May? Is this correct ? Thank you for your help and all the best to all of you!!!!!
