Hmmm.... this is worrying me a little. I myself (the beneficiary) is 22 female and my fiancé is 46 male. We have a 24 year age gap, but I will be going through the London embassy. Is this going to be an issue?

p.s I've always had a thing for older men! Now only one older man!

This age difference is completely normal.  You shouldn't be worried about that at all.

I wouldnt say its normal in the UK though. Perhaps other countries.

These are the ages of me and my dad respectively lol (-1year). In the UK people do not tend to marry someone the same age as their parents.

But I do however think they will be fine with proof of a solid relationship at the London embassy. It might get questioned during the interview though.

    fiance = ring + date

Not even that. Just a promise to get married. I made it very clear in my interview that I still did not have a ring! The CO was cool with it. ^_^

There are lots of us on here that are/were in the same situation as you. Nothing about this process is traditional. My situation is very similar to @Missabc. I will be marrying my fiance in a small ceremony without either of our families. In a few years time, when we feel the time is right and have the funds, we will have a big wedding with both our families and friends. I refuse to settle on my dream of having my big day just because my perfect soulmate lives in another country.

The advice on here is good. Keep it simple. As long as you are going to legally marry within 90 days you are fine.

Don't waste any time after marriage.  Get to a military ID card facility and get enrolled into DEERS asap!!  In the interim, take a look at the short term healthcare options as suggested above.

Be advised that you will need a SS card to get a perm military dependent ID card.

I am a military retiree, and we just recently enrolled my bride in DEERS.

Thanks so much! My fiancee has already been to the soldier support centre to inform them of his plans. We have a checklist of documents for me to bring after the wedding and I am planning on getting a SSN the day after I arrive (as long as they will give me one lol).

You can reach out to insurer like Blue Cross Blue Shield, CIGNA, etc. to get quotes.  Without subsidies, it might get expensive, however it only is for a couple of months.

    Thanks for the quick reply!

Can I sign up for these without being a US resident? (i.e. having a green card) and without having a SSN?

And what exactly do you mean by 'subsidies'?  Sorry, im just so confused by medical insurance after being in the UK my whole life and its really stressing me out.

Also, do you know if it would be illegal to be in the US on the K1 without insurance? Im fit, young and have no problems so unless I have to, I probably wouldnt get any.

    Thanks again!

  5. Hey everyone,

I am looking for answers on where I can purchase medical insurance before or upon entry into the US. I will be entering on a K1 visa and need to know what my options are for the couple of months where I wont be married to a USC. Once I am married, I will enroll into the military DEERS programme. I am already aware that travel insurance will not cover me as I am entering on a visa with immigrant intent. I have also seen special 'K1 insurance' but a quick overview has shown me this is useless.

Any advice on what others have done would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Sophie

i dont know...i doubt... it goes not about U.K. requirements, but about U.S.A. ...I guess, the requirements for entry into the country must be universal for all people entering the same type of visa... B-)

In the UK you dont receive anything other than one single CD from the Embassy at the time of your interview. So there must be medical results somewhere else. And with that, I think are the X-ray results. There are certainly no results on the CD I got... I looked :)

You're not wrong. At the UK embassy, we get a copy of our x-ray on a CD. We can open it and view it. When you get your passport back, there will be another sealed package. That is the one we shouldn't open. To answer your previous question, I looked at mine as well. It was pretty cool.

Haha thank goodness! I thought it was cool :D I sent a pic to my fiance too hahaha.

You got that right, you might've required to hand that over with the visa package at the POE. My Embassy Officer heavy sealed the envelope for me, to prove no one messed with it, but it seems things are done differently there :)

I will take it just incase they need it. Hopefully there will be another copy with my medical results somewhere inside the packet though. I did think it strange that I was able to just look at it without opening anything.

I just got a call from Shehide and her visa was approved! We did a video chat and I could tell the outcome by her smile without her saying a word. They asked her 3 questions during the interview. 1. When did you meet your fiance? 2. How did you meet? 3. When did he give you your engagement ring? She picks up her visa next Wednesday and her flight is scheduled for October 30th. Edona will get to go trick or treating for the first time! Maybe tonight I'll rediscover sleep... Assuming the euphoria subsides.

    Wohoo congrats!

Honestly if you're worried, I would just store your bag at Gould's pharmacy and take your paperwork with you :)

I had an overnight bag for me and my son so I stored that there and then just took my handbag with my phone, paperwork, wallet and glasses in it to the embassy. Just make sure you turn off your phone before you go in. Like I said Gould's Pharmacy is only £3 to store until 6pm so that's an option for anything else.

i can say about U.S. consulate in Russia, website says :

ON THE DAY OF YOUR INTERVIEW: You will NOT be permitted to enter the U.S. Embassy/Consulate with (a) USB flash drives, cables, wires, headphones, tablets (such as iPads), e-readers, or any electronic device (with the exception of a mobile phone smaller than 3 cm X 13 cm X 6 cm); (b) anything that can be used as a weapon; (c) flammable items (including perfume and other sprays); or (d) any large bag or luggage. Prohibited items will not be stored by Embassy/Consulate personnel. See the section on Security Regulations for additional guidance

Thank you both. This is really helpful :)  I will store a bag with everything and just take my phone (turned off) and documents with me in my handbag

Yeah you can take your phone with you, I just turned mine off and put it in my handbag. You aren’t allowed laptops or tablets though.

Gould’s pharmacy is literally 20 steps away from the embassy and you can store your bag for £3 for the day if you’re worried about anything :)

Ok so if I just take my phone but turn it off that should be ok? I might have to store my bag anyway because I will have to take a power bank and charger with me and I doubt very much they'll let me in with that lol. Its really annoying that they dont just do a more thorough scan. They are aware people have to travel from all over the country.
