  1. She is adamant it’s unavailable from the UK. She’s also lived in several countries over her life. She thinks she can get antibodies testing so she won’t have to redo the vaccines. Is that sufficient? And it looks like she will also be forced to get the Covid booster and the flu shot on top of whatever else she might need for her age?
  2. We received an RFE for the I-693 for my mom. She does not want any vaccinations. She is so against it, she is considering dropping the application completely. Can she get a waiver from the doc on these grounds? The issue is it’s not like she’s never received vaccines. She got 1 or 2 Covid vaccines because it required for her work but generally is quite against them. She also can’t locate her vaccine records so if she’s required to get the vaccines, she might be getting some she already received. What are her options? Will she get denied if she gets a waiver (if even possible)?
  3. I filed my I-130 on 8/25. I just checked online and the myprogress tab says 5 months. I haven’t received a receipt for the i485 but the check was deposited on 10/1 so fingers crossed by mom gets at least an A number soon.
  4. I’m looking for a thread here for those who have filed the I-130 and I-485 for a parent who is already in the U.S.? USCIS (IL) received the I-485 on 9/25. I filed the I-130 online on 8/25.
  5. Yes Medicare was extremely expensive for me due to income. I used a broker and it’s actually better healthcare than my employer-based insurance. I have HMO though completely employer paid including deductible but still low tier. The one I just got my mom is PPO.
  6. Because she is in my household, she does not qualify for Medicaid because of my income. I do intend on getting her her own home in 2 years so she should qualify then. For now, we are going private with United at $350/mo premium, no deductible but it is conditional so it’s reviewed and renewed every 2 years. If we did auto renew, I would be paying about $500/mo at $5000 deductible but it would never be reviewed or reconsidered.
  7. When my husband did it for me, my financial condition did not matter. My understanding is they care only the sponsor’s finances.
  8. I am sponsoring and I am well over the poverty limit chart. My mom needs to show her assets back in the UK? I wasn’t aware that was a requirement. She owns a home but her goal is to live here in the US with me.
  9. Yes it’s something we think about often. Currently she is using private insurance but it expires soon so we have to figure out our next move. It is very expensive but having her here saves me on childcare so if pretty much just be pumping what I save back to her health insurance. I just want to know what’s more cost efficient. It sounds like private is the only way until the 10 year wait is up.
  10. I meant pay into Medicare my understanding is if she works for 10 years and pays into Medicare she can qualify for premium free part A Medicare. I understand we will be paying a hefty amount until then and we are prepared to pay it. We definitely have considered it but haven’t made the decision but I’m sorry that you think we are irresponsible. Either way she’s been going back and forth for over a year so we need to file or they won’t let her back in.
  11. That is my biggest concern. I haven’t dug into this issue enough. I’m thinking I could hire her as my nanny so she can pay into social security otherwise we will have to go private or buy into Medicaid. I haven’t sat down and gone through the numbers. Do you have any suggestions?
  12. It asked me to fill in my income for all 3 years but only requested me to attach most recent year transcript. Thats no problem through. I’ll add 2022 and 2021. Thank you!
  13. The instructions said I only needed one for the most recent year. I need the other years too? And yes it’s a transcript!
  14. I already filed the I-130 online. I’m about to mail the I-485 and have: 1. Check for $1440 2. Form I-485 3. 2 passport photos of my mom 4. Mom’s birth certificate (copy) 5. My birth certificate (copy) 6. Copy of face page of my mom’s UK passport 7. I757 receipt for I130 8. My naturalization certificate 9. Mom’s I-94 10. Form I-864 11. 2023 w2 12. 2023 tax return am I missing anything. My mom is 58 years old. I’m not concerned about her getting work or travel authorization at this time. I appreciate your help!
  15. I am pretty sure I don’t qualify for anything. And my mom will be living with me. Does that mean she will not receive Medicare benefits once she reaches 65? Suppose I hired her as a live in nanny and paid her for her services - could she pay into social security that way?
  16. Hello all! I am so thankful for this group. I am filing for my mom's GC. She is 58. She will not be working as she is helping me with my child. I have everything in order (I think) except HEALTH INSURANCE! I intend to ask my employer whether they will let me add her but I believe that is unlikely and also requires a lot of other prerequisites -- she may also need to be a dependent and at this stage, I have no idea whether she will qualify as my dependent ... So that being said, what are the options for my 59 year old mom? Does she qualify for ACA? Do I get her insurance through the marketplace? If so, do any of you have experience with any specific insurers? And estimated cost? Thank you!
  17. My mom is a UK citizen and I am naturalized from the UK. I am currently filling in the I-130 for her while she completes the I-485. She has technically been with me since last year July. She owns property in the UK but had a tenant in there while she lived in Brazil pre-July 2023. Once she left Brazil, she had to initiate eviction proceedings against her tenant. During that time, she has "lived with me" but leaving every 3 months so as not to violate ESTA. We are aware we can't keep doing that so it's best to just file for her. The I-130 asks for my mother's address for the past couple years. Is it a problem if we put mine for the past year? Technically she has not lived anywhere else for the past year. When she has been leaving every 3 months, she goes on a vacation or goes home and stays with family. Thanks for your help!
  18. Hello! Yes! I stated above my only real concern is finding health insurance. I have everything else covered.
  19. I have been granted citizenship. My mom got here last week on ESTA. I want to file for her ASAP. Does her being here on ESTA make her eligible for I-485? I plan on filing the I-130 but need to know I am not committing any fraud or filing an incorrect form with the I-485.
  20. Took my oath on 6/21. There was a chemical smell in the building so we ended up taking our oath in small groups on the lawn lol I registered to vote the same day! So happy this journey is over for me. Now I will be filing for my mom!
  21. Update: I received my oath ceremony notice online today. Scheduled 6/21 in the Baltimore office. Can’t wait! So excited this is happening in an election year!
